Stock the SS 0-60 varies from 4.6-5.2, 1/4 mile 13.1-13.4, 2010 EVO 4.6 0-60 and 13.2 in the 1/4. That's close enough that either one could win depending on the driver.

The numbers are very close between that and a SS and it would come down to driver. Who knows what kind of evo you raced, it may have been the NA one. Lancer EVO is rally inspired car, and it's not made for drag. Camaro SS is faster in straight, slower than EVO at corners, handling (Nurburgring Nordesh. lap times), same thing is with R34 (GT-R, GT-S and other models, which is produced from 1999 to 2002).

Big engines run at low rpm for cruising so they use little fuel - a Vette is rated 26 hwy, with 436 hp from 6.2L. It isn't hard to squeeze an avg over 30 mpg from a hwy trip if you keep it at a reasonable speed! 6.2L! Look it up.

It only guzzles gas when you mash it. Or if you actually did pull huge loads with it - check GM's V8-powered trucks

@grenade350 yeah I have an 4.9 liter inline 6 and use it to pull heavy loads (5000 lb bobcat on 1500 lb trailer with bed full of scrap metal) all the time. I know all about keeping it at low rpms. I get really good gas mileage for a truck. But yeah every rotation of the crank shaft of a 4 cylinder has 2 combustion strokes compared to 4 combustion strokes of a v8.

Any given power output - a unit of energy per unit of time - comes from about the same amount of fuel. The differences btw a small 4 and a big 8 are from the 8's pumping losses and more friction (moving parts). My mother's 09 Camry 4cyl gets just around 8% better around town driving than my '95 Z28 with a 5.7L V-8

Because heavier cars needs more torque, to keep MPG lower as possible. Light cars under 2200 Ibs don't need anything bigger than 4 cyls. Also modern technology using VGT turbochargers on small engines, making them more efficient than any bigger engine with same or higher power/torque. Also V8 engine are not made to efficient. Camry is heavy car, they should stick with V6.

@winterloggan his RPM were too high. I think. He should have popped the clutch a little lower. Cars have different Hp and torque through the RPM range. Lower torque at top end (6000rpm) and less hp at low end (1000rpm) He should shave off a few tenth if he catches a perfect launch.
