@cwccwful and @walkenshaw2000, thnx for the replies. Yes, I was blessed by having a wonderful mother (and father). I was also blessed to have been born and raised in very different times. Such a wonderful time in history.. Where it was safe to play under the streetlights in the summers, till the wee hours of the morning, while parents and others gathered to play Wahoo or Yahtzee. Of course, it was on a Friday or Saturday night as our father's were working fellas and our mothers were up b4 them.
very nice, jim reeves was one of my mom's favorites and i can't help but feel close to her when i hear good old jim's music... thank you for posting such a good quality recording :)
This music takes me back to my childhood. Supper Time sends me through the annuals of time, back to a small town in Kansas. Mom calling at the door, in the evening. She fed any and all who came to her table. Unplanned guests; she would just start serving what she had ready and continue cooking other things until all were full and happy! Then, she would finally have her dinner from the left-overs. She listened to Jim Reeves all the time, along with many other of her favorite artists.
@dzanylady The dearest memories we have of love ones who have gone on ahead seems to be their selfless acts and when they put others ahead of themselves. The Lord said that he who is last shall be first.
A while ago we started putting old music on at work just for a laff, then on some random country cd this and a few other Jim Reeves tracks came on I've just placed my order with play.com for a few of his cd's. I love the way he sounds :)
though I was born a year after he dead, I love his songs. Started listening to his songs when I was 10. Best singer ever lived. Sing with so much emotions!
i'm Indian..lived all 25 years of my life here...but i've grown up listening to jim reeves..i've never heard music like this anywhere..in my opinion it's better than any other i've ever heard...brings back so many childhood memories..
Back in the 60's, when I was really young, Saturday afternoon's would consist of either sneaking into football over the wall. Or just playing in the street. I would always try and be back home for the wrestling with Kent Walton on World Of Sport.
We only had 3 albums when I was young. Johnny Cash. The Dubliners. And Jim Reeves. 9 times out of 10 me old Dad would be playing this...
sir, i've just seen it in movies and TV shows..but i trust summers in 60's in USA must be really blissful..the lesser traffic, lesser congested streets..
my fiancee sang this in benidorm last week in memory of his father who passed away a year ago last week.beautiful song and jim reeves is a true legend
I am one who doesn't like country music. However, the crossovers of the 50's like this and "Make Believe" are among my all time favorites. I think basically the musicians of that era were better than much of the crap we hear today. Bless you Jim Reeves.
My father, who passed away a little more than a year ago, used to sing this song all the time. I love you dad and I miss you so much. Thank you for being the best father you could be and introducing me to such wonderful music.
When Roy Orbison was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Springsteen said that he was the purest voice in rock n roll and that the discussion was over. The same goes for Gentleman Jim in country music. End of conversation.
My Grandmothers favorite song of all time. Every time I hear it I'm listening to her in my mind. She's very ill now and may not be on this Earth much longer, so I'm playing this in her honor with all my love and prayers.
@emriederek Tight competition there ~ Red Foley ; Tennesse Earnie Ford ; The Browns ; Mack Wiseman ; Great MUSIC with Lyrics that had Meanings ! Those Ladies of the 40a and 50s and 60s Gosh .
When I was a little girl, My mother played this album endlessly. This song stimulates so many feelings, and memories. Mom is gone now, but she will always live on through this old music.
@muffaraman I'll bet you sure don't regret seeing him live do you? Bet he was just so damned good. I am 30 and I LOVE his material. I dont know of any other that is so wonderful. His music is therapy!
Josh Turner has untouched talent!!! Let's all hope he uses it wisely. But he is not the other Jonny Cash, nor will will Josh ever be the other Jim Reeves, and if Josh is honest with us and him self, he will admit it. We all love you Josh, and best wishes.
Scotty McCreery could only wish in his dreams to have the voice that Jim Reeves had. He may look a little like a young version of Jim, but that's where the similarity ends.
One of my favourite songs ... such a great tune, great lyrics, and sung with such understated feeling and poignancy ... Still sends a shiver up the ol' spine !
@ed4ed Yeah when Randy Jackson said on Idol 5.18.11 to Scotty "throwback to Randy Travis" he should have said Jim Reeves. I came to the same conclusion. Scotty eclipsing Josh Turner but is more Jim Reeves.
@ed4ed He certainly LOOKS like Mr. R. Whether he has the talent to back it up is another thing. Of course, he is a young man and has some time to prove his art. But these are certainly big shoes to fill!!
Reminds me of sitting in our front room when I was about 7 or 8 years old in the early 70s with my dad playing his Jim Reeves records on his radiogram - my dad was a big fan of him.
My life hasn't always been so great since but thanks to you and mum my childhood was great.

@magliocco12345 My father was a big fan and I didn't like his music all that much. But this song an d adios amigo are songs that will always remember me of my father.
My late father loved this guy as well..we had the same thing going..my old man, like clockwork, played this, Eddy Arnold, Ray Price, Johnny Cash, Hank Snow, every Sunday morning after church..for years..Drove me nuts then, but it always reminds me of him now..
My dad used to sing this song to me when I was a little girl - I have to play it every now and then - my dad passed away 3 years ago Christmas Day - this one's for you Dad - makes me cry everytime I hear it...great voice..
jim reeves was such a great talent and will be dearly mist he has been mist by many adoring fans but his legace will go on living tell the end of time

My mum loved Jim Reeves and now I am a little older, 51, I am starting to understand why.

My late father loved this guy as well..we had the same thing going..my old man, like clockwork, played this, Eddy Arnold, Ray Price, Johnny Cash, Hank Snow, every Sunday morning after church..for years..Drove me nuts then, but it always reminds me of him now..

@dbd1353 Yeah mostly on sundays :-) My father liked Johnny Cash too and John Denver. I actually do like John's music. :-)
