  • was going through my father's belongings after he passed away and found a few of this gentleman's records.....this is the first time I'm hearing one of his songs and I'm absolutely blown away.....beautiful song, great singer......thanks much/s

  • wonderfull song

  • @cwccwful and @walkenshaw2000, thnx for the replies. Yes, I was blessed by having a wonderful mother (and father). I was also blessed to have been born and raised in very different times. Such a wonderful time in history.. Where it was safe to play under the streetlights in the summers, till the wee hours of the morning, while parents and others gathered to play Wahoo or Yahtzee. Of course, it was on a Friday or Saturday night as our father's were working fellas and our mothers were up b4 them.

  • One of the great old time singers... and this is the all time sitting at the bar crying in your beer song of all time.

  • He must be at the front of God's choir and i hope to here him again but please God not this year R.I.P. Jim Reeves

  • CZECH REPUBLIC - VALERIE CIZMAROVA - CEKEJ TISE (1975,1997)

  • This music takes me back to my childhood. Supper Time sends me through the annuals of time, back to a small town in Kansas. Mom calling at the door, in the evening. She fed any and all who came to her table. Unplanned guests; she would just start serving what she had ready and continue cooking other things until all were full and happy! Then, she would finally have her dinner from the left-overs. She listened to Jim Reeves all the time, along with many other of her favorite artists.

  • @dzanylady The dearest memories we have of love ones who have gone on ahead seems to be their selfless acts and when they put others ahead of themselves. The Lord said that he who is last shall be first.

  • @dzanylady It's sounds like your mother was a very women.

  • @ronsmaqe amen!

  • Back in the 60's, when I was really young, Saturday afternoon's would consist of either sneaking into football over the wall. Or just playing in the street. I would always try and be back home for the wrestling with Kent Walton on World Of Sport.

We only had 3 albums when I was young. Johnny Cash. The Dubliners. And Jim Reeves. 9 times out of 10 me old Dad would be playing this...

  • @MrJtaylor62

sir, i've just seen it in movies and TV shows..but i trust summers in 60's in USA must be really blissful..the lesser traffic, lesser congested streets..

  • I am one who doesn't like country music. However, the crossovers of the 50's like this and "Make Believe" are among my all time favorites. I think basically the musicians of that era were better than much of the crap we hear today. Bless you Jim Reeves.

  • @omahaslim so true

  • My father, who passed away a little more than a year ago, used to sing this song all the time. I love you dad and I miss you so much. Thank you for being the best father you could be and introducing me to such wonderful music.

  • Of course, this is one of the classics (doesn't matter pop, country--) --perfectly sung, arranged--everything.

  • excellent!

  • Such a smooth voice. He's the Nat King Cole of country music. There's a reason why people are still listening to this music 50 years later.

  • @muzkmn36 ...Amen.

  • I love clasic country, not today's country pop/ country rock !

  • love it, grew up on it and he sounds great.

  • This song was played at a family friends funeral today...and god...its just so beautiful and so bittersweet now.

  • you ll never hear a voice like this in todays music

  • what beautiful voice

  • i listen to this and i rem my parents..

  • When Roy Orbison was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame Springsteen said that he was the purest voice in rock n roll and that the discussion was over. The same goes for Gentleman Jim in country music. End of conversation.

  • cant listen any more..my dad my dad xx

  • @1957jemima Know the feeling brings back lots of memories xx

  • My Grandmothers favorite song of all time. Every time I hear it I'm listening to her in my mind. She's very ill now and may not be on this Earth much longer, so I'm playing this in her honor with all my love and prayers.

  • @wintergrace652 You should play this song for your gramma. Song is a very strong thing. She'll smile...

  • A great country singer, in our house growing up it was between Jim and Eddie Arnold of who had the greatest voice, both very talented!

  • @emriederek Tight competition there ~ Red Foley ; Tennesse Earnie Ford ; The Browns ; Mack Wiseman ; Great MUSIC with Lyrics that had Meanings ! Those Ladies of the 40a and 50s and 60s Gosh .

  • Scotty McCreery could only wish in his dreams to have the voice that Jim Reeves had. He may look a little like a young version of Jim, but that's where the similarity ends.

  • One of my favourite songs ... such a great tune, great lyrics, and sung with such understated feeling and poignancy ... Still sends a shiver up the ol' spine !

  • Thank you for this song....

  • Gentleman Jim Reeves

  • Scott McCreery is Jim Reeves Reincarnated! Check it out!

  • @ed4ed Yeah when Randy Jackson said on Idol 5.18.11 to Scotty "throwback to Randy Travis" he should have said Jim Reeves. I came to the same conclusion. Scotty eclipsing Josh Turner but is more Jim Reeves.

  • @ed4ed Scott McCreery is NO Jim Reeves never will be!

  • @togoodlegs The nearest to JIM is Paul Wheater

  • @ed4ed He certainly LOOKS like Mr. R. Whether he has the talent to back it up is another thing. Of course, he is a young man and has some time to prove his art. But these are certainly big shoes to fill!!

  • Let's pretend that we're together all along...

    :-*

  • Reminds me of sitting in our front room when I was about 7 or 8 years old in the early 70s with my dad playing his Jim Reeves records on his radiogram - my dad was a big fan of him.

My life hasn't always been so great since but thanks to you and mum my childhood was great.

You were a wonderful father dad RIP.

  • I feel sorry for you guys that say all those bad bad things about Jim! He was a good man and he had a God given talent that he used for everyone to hear. I grew up listening to this man and many others as well. I must say that this type of music should be treasured forever because nobody will ever make this kind of music anymore.

  • My Dad loved this guy and I grew up listening to it. timeless

  • My Mom loved this song, I grew up listening to it, and it is still none of my favorites

  • The 13 dislikes could only wish they could sound this good.

  • I was told that he's a distant cousin of mine. Not sure if I believe that, but it'd be cool if it's true.

  • 13 dislikes will have to go

  • this guy's pretty cool...my dad always played his songs.

  • Halleluja!

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! The late great Mr Reeves was truly an ICON of American music. His premature demise was a terrible tragedy & he's still sorely missed today. THANK YOU for posting this song....which is my fave of all his many hits.

  • I really dislike country music but do like this song and distant drums.

  • At this very moment I'm engaged in a conversation with a dude I was in VNam with. We were talking about a squad leader we had that would play the guitar for us whan we got back out of the woods. This was one of his favorite songs and I think of him every time I hear this. Hey Joe! Miss you, Brother!

  • nice and slow...

  • In the late 60s in the west coast of Scotland I was running a lot of dance venues for teens. had to use my dad (Peter Joseph Gribben) as security - and as part of the package then listen to him in various pubs in Stevenson/Saltcoats . His favorite was "He'll have to go" which he did I'm sure an octave lower than the original. It's taken me over 20 years to buy the Jim reeves original CDs and listen without crying. Thankyou , kennygee for the reminder

  • @ozgribbo nice ,big man ,nice
