Now this brings back some old memories. I was really young when I used to watch this show but I still got it and loved it. I remember wishing how cool it would be to be able to swim like that.
i remember this show..god i had to be about 6 or 7...thanks for the post...the show sucked but it brought back memories..i think everybody tried to swim like that...lol
the day after it aired, we had swimming class at school, my classmates freaked out when i swam a length of the pool underwater like TMFA. I went on to be the fastest front crawl and longest underwater swimmer in our school, all thanks to the inspiration of Mr Duffy!
@incdogrobber It was Fred Karlin, who had a very long history of being a TV Movie composer. It is beautiful, I bought a great version on Itunes that plays slower with violins and is then re-mixed more dramatically by Austin Wintory.
@fenriz218 Yeah, if you watch the Mike Douglas interview on the left (it's 3 short parts) he explains the pain staking process of making the lenses. They had to Novocaine his eyes and hold it open while they poured plastic on it to get a proper mold. arr! And he mentions you could get a lot of inner-ear infections (those are the worst!)
I kinda remember that Old West episode : there was like another Man From Atlantis, like a double, but had only the remnants of the webs on his hands and he had no idea why he felt so good when he was in the water (he didn't need it as much as the real Mark), he was kinda a bad guy, he even hit on Elizabeth once.
I liked this show alot as a kid! (Undersea adventures, aliens & alot of good-ol'-fashion fight scenes!) Pretty bumed when they canceled it! But the one I REALLY missed, was the equally cheesy searies based on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea! Staring Jose Ferrer as a cryogenically frozen (and revived) Capt. Nemo & Burgess Merideth as 'the villian'!
I remember the episode where he swam into this cave and when he came up it was inside a well in this old western like town. It was either a secret world or another dimension I don't remember now but the owner of the well was Kareem Abdul Jabar and the two of them fought.
I think that's the episode I remember. The only memory I have from this show is where he is locked up in a jail in an old western town and he is very weak and tired, has no energy. Then the guard comes with the power hose, and starts to hose him down in the cell with a powerful jet stream of water. The guard hopes to clean and hurt him at the same time, but of course the water rejuvenates him and gives him back his power and strength and he proceeds to kick some behind!
i wish i could go back to the time i was really into this, i could've sworn i was developing webbed hands and feet as a child after every episode i watched.
I didn't take much of the plot in but it was great eye candy for a kids imagination
My 8 year old son absolutely loves swimming, so when we go to a pool, he swims like a fish and he's constantly under the water, so my husband and I call him "The Man from Atlantis" but when we call him this, he just looks at us totally confused and says "What's Atlantis?" so I'll have to show him this clip and then he'll understand.
I remember the very last episode, like the season finale. He just ended up walking towards the sea after saying goodbye to his friends. I miss shows like these.
Well, just can create your own dvd then to watch all episodes of Man from Atlantis on your TV. Just google "man from atlantis filespump". There you will find all episodes in full length.
Use the non peak hours (internet traffic) to download it, otherwise it is not rapid- but "slow"share. The pilot and the episode 05 are a good start to watch it. The password to open the downloaded files with for instance winrar is "forumworg" actually, just put a dot between forumw and the last 3 letters of the password)
I want to THANK YOU for all the help you gave me. It was a big plus ++++. I used the password and it got me in. I downloaded a couple of episodes today. I was a fan of the show back then.
@rikuinn2007 That's strange, I never came across that situation. Everytime I downloaded, it always ask for the password before the files can be opened.
I was around the same age. And I am ashamed to admit that I tried to swim kike pat Duffy in my backyard pool. The girl next door saw me and laughed her ass off. I retired red faced to the back porch.
As corny as it looks now this type of TV is 10034 times better than the excrement that passes for entertainment on TV today...
Ya at that time the world was kinda ancient you might say, Mobile phones, satellite tv,computers, the internet... I couldn't dream of any such thing. The world has advanced and it makes you laugh when you see these old tv shows where technology and gadgetry play a lead.
when i was a kid i alwasy tried to swim like the Man from Atlantis... ;-)

I read an interview with Duffy where he described the experiences:
- couldn't see with the contact lenses but they apparently hurt like hell
- got some serious back-pain from the swimming
- had to inhale (!) water so that no air-bubbles where visible - later they made him talk (!!) under water, making things worst.
Got to admire the dedication ... :)
