He awoke in a new world after defeating Strife and saving the Grandall kingdom. The spirit and cursed swords swept him here, presumably for him to look after this land. He found a labyrinth where time stood still, guarded by a great warrior, and then fell into a deep slumber. When the Soul Edge of this world would rise, he would awaken to help counter this threat.

Sanity regained, he took his sword in hand and vowed to never sleep again as he wondered the lands. Eventually, he came upon a crevasse that ran deep into the earth and cast the sword into its dark abyss. He than destroyed the path leading to the chasm and became its guardian for all eternity...
