I agree, don't complain about the lack of Q, yes we all love the sound, but based on the traffic I can see, there really wasn't an urgent need for siren anyway. I have never seen a Q in england or anywhere in europe or asia for that matter. Plus studies have been done on effective siren use and its proven that the Yelp from an electronic siren is the most noticable and best "traffic moving" siren tone. With hi-lo being the least effective (sorry england)

@fireutility21 It definitely is a tradition, and I love the sound of a good Q. My comment isnt to say the Q cant move traffic though, I personally like to use the Q in addition to the electronic siren, since most trucks come equipped with both. My guess would be that most european fire departments dont use the Q because of the size of their trucks. The Q draws huge amperage and would hurt the fuel efficiency.

It's YOUR truck and just my opinion but to me an electronic siren makes you sound smaller than you really are since most motorists associate it with ambulances and police vehicles. The Q is what makes a fire truck sound like a fire truck. If you use both sirens use the YELP with the Q so people won't look for another vehicle that's nowhere around. If you have noise ordinances then just tap the Q a few times instead of blasting it. You have a HUGE fire truck there so why not SOUND like one?

Yes, it actually does make a practical difference when you're talking electronic verses mechanical because of decibels and the kind of sound waves that are emitted.

whelen sirens are no good on a fire engine I would have that rig put out of service and replace that siren with a Federal Signal siren PA300. That siren sounds like a Whelen 295HFSA1
