it took me only a few days to master cello vibrato. but that is a lot easier! i also play violin, viola, elect. guitar, acoustic guitar, piano, and a cornet / trumpet
Are your knuckles stiff as you read this? No. It is muscular tension that is causing your "stiffness". Make sure that you are pressing minimally on the fingerboard as you practice vibrato. Imagine you are pressing the string 99% of the way down to the fingerboard. Good luck! DB
Thanks for the tip. I'm always worried, that I'll play with a flat hand on the neck. I keep checking in the mirror and it looks okay, but trying your tip will prevent the neck from resting on my palm and stop me worrying about too many things at once.
I learned the rudiments of vibrato in a few weeks of hard work - but only after my beloved teacher threatened to boot me as her student because I wouldn't do the exercises! What I present in these tutorials I learned from her. I salute Lois Lyman (also known as Lois Fishman).
m... i find arm vibrato better for me but everyone i know who does vibrato says its suppose to be wrist vibrato... i had trouble with my right hand for a flexible wrist to play 16th notes fast and all that.. so now i need to do that for left hand.. lol.
im with ya on that.. :/ my orchestra teacher said she will teach us how to vibrato soon arfter our concert (on the 10th) but i cant wait, but it is probaly best i wait because i dont really understand the youtube videos : 0
I feel comfortable with the arm vibrato but wrist vibrato is a bit more challenging. Would you recommend mastering arm vibrato before moving on the wrist vibrato? A close up of the wrist vibrato would help. Thanks!
I can't think of any reason to delay working on your wrist vibrato. Try starting in a higher position (probably 4th position) and lean the heel of your hand against the violin's shoulder. You don't have to spend tons of time on this. It is important to practice it every day though.

i have a baroque violin just bought it. I dont know how to tune it to get the right sound from it. it is stringed with gut string. Any help?

Usually people tune to A=415 for baroque music. 415 is about 1/2 step below 440, so try tuning to A-flat (and D-flat and G-flat and E-flat).
