@c05t1n: DH082008 is n track there. The conductor and rear brakeman rode in the caboose 2 monitor the train like he said and to monitor the brake pipe pressure at the end of the train. Technology has brought reliable end of train electronics that continuously monitor the brake pipe air pressure and transmit to the lead locomotive. Railroads cut costs by elminating fireman & brakeman jobs and the caboose and moved the conductor to the lead locomotive on run through trains for a 2 man crew.
I agree I only saw limited amounts of the old DRGW but they were a great railroad and yes the M# horms were trully nice on this railroad so was the K5LA horns on the SD50s up has pereserved one of the SD40T-2 units its in Cheyenne at the steam shop I saw it a few weeks ago when I went there on there on the 844 trip
Railfanning was definitely at its peak in the 1980s, today's railfanning doesn't even compare to the old days, I miss the old BN and ATSF freight cars.
Was this filmed with a VHS camera?

what was the reason for using that last wagon back than, at the end of the train?
c05t1n 2 years ago
@c05t1n a caboose was used for 2 reasons, 1. as an emergency stop for the train, 2. to keep pirates off the trains.

Wow, their equipment rode smooth down that mainline, maybe CP Rail needs to ask old DRGW for help on laying track :)

I'm running out of old stuff--I'll have to jump in my Tardis and get some more.

I wish I could do that, too, and get footage of old New York Central, Nickel Plate, and Milwaukee Road trains that used to run close by my town...
