  • well, that's one way to put out a fire...

  • IT ATE THE FIRE!!!!! WHAT IS THIS SORCERY????

  • WHY IS THIS NOT USED DURING WILDFIRES?!!

  • omg why do you try to reignite it when its obvious that CO2 is a extinguishable gas more fun to see how a ice cube made of water hit burning oil :D

  • uh-oh im in the weird part of youtube again

  • 10 BUCKS IF IT PUTS OUT THE FIRE

  • @Ryzawing although you have the right idea, co2 is merely a greenhouse gas. now if it were regular CO, it would be a different story, but CO2 is only an asphyxiant gas.

  • Why don't fire men just use these instead of water? :O

  • @ChiengBang I think it's because CO2 is kind of a harmful gas when put into the atmosphere. Though I'm not entirely sure..

  • that ice is likr I DONT THINK SO BITCH!!!

  • @kkpipbs it would take a LOT of dry ice... but hey, i guess the extra CO2 would help them forests out

  • Does the CO2 just take the place of the oxygen in the air and the fire is literally smothered, since there is no oxygen?

  • Instead of a extinguisher hanging on your wall you could just keep dry ice in a drawer...wtf

  • FREAKY ;)

  • uhm... how would a pool catch on fire? lol

  • i bet u that one who clicked the upside-down-like-button was either

    was the ice

    or

watching upside down for some reason[more common these days]

  • fire doesnt go off from cold, it goes off because it was being smothered by the CO2 and couldnt get any oxygen to combust

  • it might be a stupid question but could it melt on the sun

  • @nj32123 it would evaporate and destroy the CO2 molecules in an instant

  • Hmmm not only does it remove heat, but it also removes oxygen. A very good way of extinguishing fires!

  • @meegul304 If It removes heat...how come it burns when I hold it?....lol jk

  • fireman should use dry ice to put out fires

  • Maybe you should have called it "dry ice in pool OF fire" since it is misleading with that word left out...

  • @koyangi417 who wants to swim in a pool of fire???..it's the type of fire

  • So why don't we use dry ice to destroy forest fires?

  • @kkpipbs im guessing it isnt cheap?

  • @kkpipbs because dry ice is dry (no liquid); i guess it's quite hard to put out the fire with it... but we could build our trees out of it :D

  • @Ycylyon LIKE A BAWS!

  • @kkpipbs

because the dry ice will destroy the forest either ...

  • @kkpipbs because a forest fire is to big and the amount of dryice that would be required to do that would be massive on potentially harmful to a surrounding town that and the flames in a forest fire are to big they go up trees dryice is solid carbon dioxide which is heavier than normal air so it sinks

  • @kkpipbs

    What dry ice?

  • @kkpipbs You'd need a shitload of it.

  • @kleetus92 Oh... and you'd probably asphyxiate half the fire crew!

  • @kkpipbs putting regular ice in that tray would put out the fire too

  • use a real pool next time

  • Not a trivial result.

I'm imagining a jet of dry ice shavings, driven through a hose by compressed CO2, as a mechanism for extinguishing refinery fires.

  • @ROBwithaB A neat idea, similar to a normal CO2 extinguisher but the dry ice shaving would hang around longer which could be quite useful.

  • @SRcombexp

Plus, you have the issue of latent heat if it's in solid form.

And the ratio of surface area to volume of shavings versus a solid chunk.

It'll "suck" a lot more heat out of the fire.

Although gaseous CO2 is heavier than air and one would thus expect it to form a "blanket" on top of the burning liquid, the problem with regular CO2 extinguishers is all the turbulence.

The jet of inrushing gas tends to displace and disturb the "pool" of existing gas.

And it sucks air along with it.

  • @SRcombexp

(My apologies for the non-scientific language. I understand the principles but can never remember the right terminology. I trust that I am making myself understood.)

There is the potential for a patentable product here. I have a pretty good idea of how it might work. I don't know if you would be interested in developing something or if your general principle is to put stuff out in the public domain..

    Let me know.

Because I think I know how the delivery system would work.
