  • RIP Mr Cash !!!!

  • When people hear this on the radio they don`t say turn tdat shit up they say turn that life changing music up

  • makes me wanna cry

  • 2366 people dont understand the meaning of living or have never lived.. because on listen of this song makes you alive...!

  • HE DIDN'T WRITE THIS! BABIES ARE NOT PEOPLE! VOTE OBAMA 2012! APOCALYPSE NOW! PEE IN YOUR EYE! NINE INCH NAILS! NINE INCH NAILS!

  • @asilentfire what the fuck

  • fair play if you look him up on wiki he's had a life. trust me i heard this song a few times but thought nothing properly of it but when i looked up on him, i see why

  • As a way to say “thank you Johnny” and to spread the love and passion for a legend of a soul, I thought I’d elaborate on two important ideas that seem to reoccur in our comments:

The fact that Johnny Cash did a cover song of Trent Reznor’s masterpiece shows that Johnny recognized and was willing to give credit to worth-wild music of today’s generation.

  • @crawlFace

I can’t stand it when an artist from an older generation makes a blanket statement such as “All today’s music sucks”, especially when there must have been a time when the very same thing was said about their music and change and new or different styles, etc.

In this video, you can basically see/feel everything you need to see and feel from Johnny Cash the man; that’s what makes the video so touching: it’s 1000% real,

  • @crawlFace

and I figure at that point in his life there would be no kind of pressure or threat that could force him to perform/produce something he didn’t agree with and that he didn’t want to do. So to me, Johnny is letting his fans know that he is on-point and well aware of what’s happening and being produced in “today’s generation” of artists.

  • @crawlFace

As an additional bravo to Johnny, I believe that if he wanted too he could have went to the drawing-board and came up with a haunting basic melody of his own on guitar along with lyrics that would rip our hearts out, but to be so mature as to recognize and endorse another fellow artist’s work because everything that Johnny may have wanted to convey was pretty much perfectly conveyed by Trent, is a testament to how humble and sincere the man is.

  • @crawlFace

The other idea I want to touch on is based on a comment I read here which was a fair reminder: the comment pointed-out that this vid reminds us of the hardships of old-age, and that by looking at Johnny, in spite of his achievements and triumphs, we see a tortured old man, etc. But in the spirit of wisdom and believing that Johnny was as sharp and wise as they come, I know he wouldn’t want us to think of him that way.

  • @crawlFace

What I take from Johnny’s pain and his “looking back on things now” approach the video expresses, is the most beautiful final lesson and reminder to all of us, which is that when we do reach those last days of our lives we will look back on many of those younger years and realize how precious they are. What Johnny would want us to do right now is to make the most of our time now, sincerely.

  • @crawlFace

And in his humble way, that would be us just going over to the one we love, our family, someone we care about and expressing our love and just taking a moment to enjoy being alive, knowing that times like this we will remember forever.

Johnny helped teach me that you pick yourself up and start over as many times as it takes.

Johnny Cash, no excuses, no hype, we learn by living, pure legend-

  • I never got in to Johnny Cash but this almost seems he wrote it himself, so much feeling. Great cover

  • Comment removed

  • damn wish i could have met him or at least seen him in concert!

  • cant watch this without getting a shiver up my spine and almost shedding a tear

  • Somehow, calling this a "music video" doesn't really do it justice. Leave it to Johnny Cash to do a remain entirely original while doing a cover.

  • @bigdschreiner "everyone i know, goes away in the end"

"Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack"

  • Those dislikes...all from Lil Wayne!

  • If you disliked this video, FUCK YOU!!

  • :)

  • Each person has a story to tell, big and small. But that doesn't mean it will be heard. A tree falling the forest will not resound throughout all of the world, but the impact and crater it creates will last for all eternity. We grow up to be a person and each person has feelings to question and ask. Johnny will be remembered. An impact in history will always be remembered. But it is the will of whom who wants to make the impact that counts. R.I.P Johnny Cash.

  • This song is incredible, Almost haunting considering this was sung weeks before his death, Johnny Cash Rest In Peace. <3

  • R.I.P Johnny Cash, you're truly a legend. I just hate how you died on my birthday, September 12th

  • I wish I knew the story behind the record in the broken picture frame. Johnny would be smiling at all the attention 38 million hits. Rip my old friend...!!!

  • this is one of the best covers EVER recorded.

this video nearly makes me cry!

Johnny Cash is a legend and Trent Reznor is a genius!

    :)

  • :"[

  • cdksjfdsfdsnbhfls

    this is so beautiful

  • This is a beautiful song!!!! i just began to listen to him now..and i'm obsess with his music!!! very meaningful..

  • @nycindy21 i hear the train coming, its rolling round the bend, and i aint seen the sunshine since i don't know when

  • This may my favorite music video of all time.

  • I don't know why but this song, and he, reminds me of my grandfather... I miss you everyday.

  • this song makes life worthwhile

  • @Dzeno243 I agree with you who shouldn't agree with you. Everyone should live there live to the fullest.

  • Thank you Criminal Minds for introducing me to this masterpiece.

  • This song may not be an original, but was made for Johnny Cash. Both versions are incredibly different. NIN made a great song, but Johnny created a masterpiece of life.

  • Thank you Johnny Cash.

  • This is a quite sad song

  • All Cash fans have a little piece of Johnny in them that will never quite disappear, Johnny you will live forever in the hearts of everyman and woman that has worn black on their back and kept your music ringing in their ears.

We will forever miss you and your music is your gift to us

    -Thank you man in black

  • chills from 0:00 to 4:03

  • no will ever compare to Johhny

    R.I.P

  • ...chuck norris gets shit on by this guy...

  • R.I.P ..jc . Memorable Song .

  • AWESOME JUST AWESOME.

  • this is the saddest thing ever... it shows the "reward" of growing old

  • Such a great song from Johnny

  • Its sad in his final days the man had to resort to this. RIP Cash, we understand.

  • Anyone who would hate on this Cover..has NO CLUE what music is all about. Even a cover, ESPECIALLY a cover...the covering artist should make it his own....Trent Reznor is a Genius in what he does...and Johnny Cash is a Genius in what he does (you don't' last what 50-years in the biz unless you are one). I feel quite confident Reznor felt Cash "respected" the TRUE RAW emotional feel of this song. It's beautiful by both Musicians....And known to be Cash's "goodbye song.

  • @thezenfuldog I know what you mean - the way Cash sings this song is so raw and painful it rips at your heart

  • FUCK ME HAUNTING OR WHAT?

  • I wish this man was still around........ I'm goona try to be as good as him some day. I have a poster of him on my wall and everyday I say to myself I'm goona be as good as him one day.. There's no good music anymore it's all about sex, drugs, and violence now.. What's happening to society today... I write my own songs, check them out if you have the time please.

  • unbelievable video..perhaps the most 'original cover" ever made....

  • Left a small bottle of Jack Daniels by his grave yesterday....after I had some myself.

  • 2362 людини, яким не сподобалось, не мають душі?!...

  • це, напевно, найкраще, що я коли-небудь бачила і чула...

  • I wish this Legend was still alive... My house was right next to his in the Caribbean.

  • Unfortunately the song was written by trent reznor of nine inch nails but it doesnt mean that johnny cash didnt do a million times better on the song. Proof for the sake of arguement....

i would share the link but youtube wont let me, go to wikipedia and search hurt by johnny cash, it brinds up trent reznor and states that johnny cash did a COVER of the song on his final album.

  • @sydewynder19 Unfortunate? It's just a cover; nothing to be sad just about because he didn't write it himself. And yes, nearly everyone already knows that. You're wayyy late into the subject.

  • Some of the best lyrics i have ever heard....so raw and emotive

  • 2,361 people are not coming to my birthday party.

Also, top comment is spot on.

  • You got your Lennons, Dylans, Elvises, Zappas, Lous Reeds, and all of the other face lickers favourites. Then there's Johnny Cash, totally one of a kind.

  • wow....awesome. I miss johnny.

  • did u guys know some emo fucks called nine inch nails covered this song and shut all over it, nobody fucks with JOhnny cash, NOBODY NIGGA!!

  • @patophelia Obvious troll is obvious

  • @patophelia you should red the description. THE SONG IS ORIGINALLY BY NINE INCH NAILS! JOHNNY CASH DID A COVER!

  • A poignant song, powerfully delivered. The part at around 2:37 when I guess his wife is looking on is such an emotional moment. RIP Mr Cash.

  • Jonny Cash realy coud sing!! Wy is that always the best who goes away first??

  • This version was a real help coming off Smack !! Crying like a baby lets you know you can still feel !! Peace Ye`All !!

  • We all remember you Johnny Cash You change my life

  • @crazyxmaz retract wrong person

  • This is my favorite song of ALL time.

  • Mr Cash signed 4 cd sleeves for me that night before his concert in 1994 at the Pikes Peak Center in Colorado Springs. I will never sell those autographs or pictures. I plan to give them as gifts to my brothers for Christmas this year, as a gift (knowing the worth of such pics and autograph) but didn't obtain them backstage to make money. He < mr CASH , was a true gentleman and a nice guy that night. :)

  • THE SINGLE BEST SONG RECORDED in modern times from such a CLASS ACT. Such a nice ending to a beautiful man and career. LOL. BLESS YOU MR CASH ! I met you once in early 1994 backstage. You were very nice and signed autographs and took pictures. Bless you SIR ! (footnote: for Mr Cash to record this song is nothing more than the best gift ever). :)

  • Depresses me to think shit like LMFAO gets so much attention and views, while songs like these go under appreciated and forgotten

  • @Insanitied Enlighten me, who has under appreciated him? Whose forgotten him? Johnny Cash will live on forever and his music for all eternity. LMFAO will be forgotten in about 1 year.

  • @Insanitied cuz you can't get drunk and dance to it in a club. this is the generation we're living in.

  • Here is a man with the road of life written on his heart and soul and face. No one could do it better for Johnny lived it.

  • Cash is so prophetic in this video, it's heartbreaking to watch.

  • In my opinion, you cannot listen and understand the meaning n feeling of this song untill you press play and close your eyes... try it, and you will 'see' what i mean

  • this song is SO freakin depressing but i LOVE it. i can't stop listening to it on replay....!

  • This can be said of many fathers out there. Just some of those fathers dont have the money and arrogance of a rock star.

  • This is classic Johnny Cash, & the lyrics about drug abuse & regret are so real...........

  • No song has ever made me cry, except for this one...

  • thank you trent. to inspire this man is a feat.

  • The great man said good bye

  • 2361 people were hurt by this song

  • i once told my friends of this song(im 15 and never listen to this music) they tough i was an idiot because i listen to this but when they listen to this. I could se how emotional they became almost made me laugh to se them apologie to me.

  • what He says at 1:44 ?

  • @TheHungarianPride You Stay the Hell Away From Me You Hear?

  • @DonRakPhoto thank you so much!!

  • @TheHungarianPride. He says " you stay the hell away from me, ya hear".

  • This song has life written all over it. Even making mistakes is part of being human; it proves you feel something and that no one is perfect. It also proves Johnny Cash was a legend at being lyrical.

  • that 2361 dumba**es have no heart, that´s for sure...how can you not like this song...fu** them johnny you will always be in my heart...

  • 2,361 people should have their heart ripped out of their chest and eaten.

  • This rocks!

  • Johnny cash is amazing

  • Trent wrote this song but the lyrics reflect Johnny' life and tribulations more for the fact of having lived a more rough and longer life,Trent writes about effigy's sometimes and could be's which is much like Johnny and that's why he appreciated this song enough to do it.RIP Johnny the music world suffered a big loss.

  • @EBBadd1 Trent was writing about his own hardships of drugs and going through rehab and stuff and the abandonment he faced when he wrote this. Just cause Johnny was older and experienced far more, doesn't make it any more meaningful for either singer. Trent acknowledged that this was the single greatest honor of his career Cash singing this. NIN Forever, RIP Johnny Cash

  • @tauwilltriumph you called that game art? listen im not going to waste my time arguing over a game you insolent fuck.So lets just leave it at that and called it a day peace.

  • I wonder what Adele cover of this song would sound like..

  • @eqproductions Wow, I still think I would like this version best but Adele would do a good job too.

  • Johnny Cash's daughter said in a documentary, "Dad, this song sounds so dark, like you're saying Goodbye". She said Johnny's response was, "I am".

  • This song reminds me of Ayrton Senna :'(

  • jeb corliss

  • This man was 71 and he could sing better than any shit music thats out in todays society

  • @jakeshaw123 thats such an ignorant thing to say.

  • @HotbagelsProject ...how is that ignorant? i think it is straight fact. today's music in general dissapoints me. it isn't even about the music anymore

  • @jakeshaw123 Maybe for people that dont know where to look. Wilco, Fleet Foxes, Grizzly Bear. All at least as good as Cash. Really good.

  • @Kacevychius Who?

  • @jakeshaw123 haha well you know he does have 69 more years of experience than today's artists

  • @jakeshaw123 eny one can sing better then any shit music in out society

  • 2,361 deslikes?

    :-/

  • So sad, he looks so feeble in this video.

  • I saw a Trent Reznor interview about this video, and he said something to the extent of it being like seeing your ex walking down the street with (her) new romance, and how he treats her better than you ever could.

  • i love you johhny cash

  • Amazing song. It always makes me tear up a little.

  • such a great song

  • Really sad video about his life

  • no comment... <3

  • makes a grown man cry....

  • @neversaynever234 Fuck off, you disgusting elitist fuck. It's dickwads like you that keep art stagnating.

  • fantastic ! very inspiring ....

  • masterpiece

  • que buen cover :3

  • Ogni volta che l' ascolto mi commuove ...è più forte di me.

Un inno alla vita , con tutte le sue imperfezioni ...nonostante tutto ,mette voglia di vivere.

    <3

  • Cash don't try to hate on him

  • if anybody else tried to sing this they would just be called little emos. But cash imparts a feeling to the song that really gets to you.

  • I love this man!!!!!!He was such a truly pure soul.I cry everytime I hear this.Him, Waylon, and Willie were the original cowboys....

  • Comment removed

  • I read Dark Tower 7 by Stephen King and discovered severals rows named by Renzor at the beginning. Google said it is a song on it by Johnny Cash - after listening i got the answer what's the book about.

Great artist, great lyric, great song.

  • he told us goodbye, not goodbye now please tell reznor mine is better than yours, just his own way of saying goodbye, so please just listen, not many artists live long enough to say it, so just listen

  • I'm sorry to all the NIN fans out there, but Johnny's version of Hurt is so much more soulful and heartfelt than Trent's! I'm actually crying!

  • bieber sucks donky kong.

  • JUSTIN BIEBER does a version of this in concert...its better than the NIN and the Cash versions. Give it a listen on JB's "Never Say Never" dvd....you'll agree.

  • @KINGDINGLEDORK Please say this is a joke. Bieber is not even in the same league as NIN or Johnny Cash, and never will be.

  • @KINGDINGLEDORK HELL NO! I WILL ALWAYS SAY NEVER TO JUSTINA BIEBER!THIS IS JOHNNY CASH MAN!DONT COMPARE TRASH WITH GOLD! THIS IS REAL MUSIC NOT POOPPY CRAP .
