An excellent cover with appropriate lyrics to fit in perfectly with Anacrusis. In my opinion they are one of the most terribly underrated and "before their time" bands ever. Glad to see this stuff is still turning heads
I remember at one of their shows, the dude standing in front of me dropped his t shirt on the floor so yeah, I picked it up and he never knew. lol. He was looking all over the club.
I love Anacrusis. "Manic Impressions" and "Screams and Whispers" are in line with Coroner's "Grin" and "Mental Vortex" and Testament's "The Ritual" - Thrash's most mature and atmospheric albums. A tour of these three bands is something I'd pay a lot to see.
I love your version, and I heard NMA through you, and turned me into a fan. I think Anacrusis is an underrated metal band. Manic Impressions is one of my favorite album, I think I was still in high school when I listened to it.
It's a cover version of New Model Army , who recorded this on their "Thunder and Consolation" - Album in 1989, I guess.
Besides, it's very close to the original, so I don't really see the point in covering this geat song unless adding a little twist of your own. And yes, iI know, t's the old "why do people cover music from others"- discussion again - in disguise.
@Megalomaniac2005 I've been a huge NMA fan since 1987 which is why we covered it. if you don't think we put our own twist on it, I'm not sure what to say to that, since I've never heard that from anyone before. I simply took what I felt was a great song and did it in the style of ANACRUSIS to hopefully turn some of our fans on to NMA (which we did).
@cheffboy I'm a huge NMA fan, and I bought the album because I saw the cover in the tracklisting. I think you guys did a great job. Original is best, of course. :-P BTW: I then went on to hunt down your other stuff... :-)
@Megalomaniac2005 - Think you're being a little unfair... It's not exactly to my my taste but it's a good cover that doesn't rip the balls of the song as so many CV's do... NMA are a great band so in a way it's good that a set of people who prob have never heard of them get to know them through this cover. (and as the posts show Anacrusis are generous with their respect - all credit to themselves)
Screams and Manic Impressions remain some of the Thrash metal's most refined albums ever. I always like to compare them to Coroner's Grin and Mental Vortex. They're all different, but somehow unique in a similar way. Glad to see both bands back in the game
Hi Ken! Just to let you know, you have fans in Singapore! :) "Screams..." would be my personal favourite, followed by "Manic Impressions"! Saw a video of your reunion concert, and I have to say you guys still rock the casbah!
P.S. I know a guy from St. Louis who is living here at the moment who is fan of you guys since the 80's!
Not sure if you remember but I saw you guys in Toronto way back on the Reason tour- I was the one on in the crowd yelling out "Frigid Bitch" I believe you may have opened for Candlemass but old age is creeping in lol. I also interviewed you guys for a fanzine afterwards out on the street. Glad to see you're still around \m/
I just heard this tonight, and I have to say, this is easily not just one of my favorite metal songs, but one of the most well crafted pieces of art I've heard. Why am I always so late to the party?
@SamiPhiladelphia Thanks. We didn't write it...its a New Model Army cover (if you didn't already know). I agree its a fantastic song though and I'm glad you like our version.
@SamiPhiladelphia Better late than never! I bought this CD back in 90 nor 91 I believe and have been a fan since. This band should have been better recieved than they were but came along when every band was trying to "out-hard" one another and thus ignoring the talent you're seeing now.
Cheffboy...please reload this video...it stops at 1.02. By the way...saw you guys at Mississippi Nights way back when.....hell of a show. Thanks ANACRUSIS!!! I love this song as much as I love the world.
I love Manic Impressions, bought it from an ex-bandmate back in 1993... Then some guys I knew who had a thrash/death band were like completely obsessed with Anacrusis, tried so hard to get my copy at any co$t, didn't happen, though I ordered Screams and Whispers for them through a small distro. we had back in those days (when even some radio commercial music was decent)... Great music, thanks for the art!
I still have this ... uhhh ... cassette tape. Unfortunately, I dont have a casstte player to listen to it, but I couldn't bring myself to throw the tape away. It's probably all warped and wonky from being played 8 billion times, but still ...
I heard about this band back in 98 and loved suffering hour still have it on CD with its hit or miss sound its still awesome. Most(95%) music today if its not a good production its total shit, but Suffering hour is still fucking awesome even if its demo-ish sounding the music cuts right through that and still hits you on the kidneys.
This sounds really dodgy, the original mix was far superior in every way. Nevertheless, this band was so fucking amazing & this is one of the greatest albums of all time.
To me, this is what represents a great cover, a thorough reinterpretation of the original sound within the band's scope, and not some other band playing the same song. For the record, I really didn't care for the NMA version. Also for the record, I'm thoroughly psyched that people are still into this track!!!
Anacrusis should have never broke up!! I only wish I had the chance to see them live. I guess I missed out. HEY KEN I'D LOVE TO WRITE SOME MUSIC WITH YOU!!!! GIVE ME A SHOUT AND WE'LL GET STARTED!!!!
ok, so here's my memories. this song in particular I've prob listened to thousands of times (but I was smart enough as an 11 yr old metal head to buy this & screams & whispers). They used to play this tune on the college metal radio show at like midnight on Sat. nights. Man, nothing I heard on that show blew me away like this. The perfect expression of malcontent with capitalist/industrial utopia (Brits wrote the lyrics, so of course). Man, incredible band. Of course they broke up.
Anacrusis means memories for me, remember when I bought this album a long time ago. Had never heard them at that time but I liked it right away. At this time everybody I knewed listen to Deicide, Danzig, Slayer and more, But I wanted to hear more "unknown" band so I bought records that I thought were cool, and in these case I didn`t regret it...
i have both Manic Impressions and screams and whispers if anyone needs copies. I don't think they have anything after that. If they do I would love a copy of anything else they put out.
i saw them there too. great unknown band. too bad nothing happened after that. even took them germany and told everyone about them. from st.. louis if am right. what happened?
I'd highly recommend the video for Division (Anacrusis, Screams and Whispers) by Voltronsky, an intriguing interpretation of a brilliant example of Anacrusis' versatility, and the talent of Paul Miles.
never heard of this band before but i have to admit that their sound is fascinating. this song in particular is already one that i like. too bad that i've heard of them so late. great band indeed.
This song is so contagious! is in my head for several weeks! never heard of Anacrusis before, even when I have more than 15 years listening to metal/rock.
Was a fan since the beginning and glad they did the original version justice. This band should have been way bigger; they just got lost in the death metal and gasp- Nu Metal of the 90's.
These guys were so lost in the fray just because they put so much effort into being different from all the other metal acts that were out there. I just wish they'd gotten the credit they deserved when they should have. Everybody loves them now, and it's too late.
yep but Im still love them, and lots of friends of mine too, even if now we listen to dream theater or todie for even coldplay :) anacrrusis is anacrusis, as a musician and songwritter I respect them and still njoy their songs.
Listen again. The phrasing is just a bit different, but that is exactly what I am singing. Justin puts the emphasis on "BUILDings" and I moved it to "buildings TOPPle..." so I could puctuate the word "dust". :-) Trust me, as a fan of NMA since 1987, I am more than familiar with the lyrics.
but i did hear on the demo version "Peter's Gate" not "Petergate." Just some rubbing, dude. Your band is one I used to absolutely LOVE (read my other comments). I remember wishing beyond hope youd play my town. But I still have these CDs. Such great music.
Sorry, I get a lot of trouble from some of the more hard-core NMA fans, so I tend to be dfensive. :-) I recorded the demo right after the T&C album was release and tracked the vocals without the lyrics in front of me. I'm a yank, so I didn't know Petergate from Watergate. ;-)
This is the ultimate anticiv tune. The perfect soundtrack if you read Derrick Jensens masterpiece "Endgame" or something like that.
