Just seems to be a culture being bred in this market of the only way to get an animal regardless of age is to beat ten bells out of it. Even the kids were doing it. The UK has one of the highest standards of animal welfare in the world. If a stockman was routinely seen doing this to animals they'd be sacked. And the cow with that huge udder, poor thing.

From years working with cattle I would have to say that methods used here can be somewhat heavy handed and some guy were hitting cattle needlessly. Hitting the cattle can leave bruises which does not look good when they are butchered. I did not see any electric cattle prods so I presume the market does not allow their use. I never used one myself but I did see them in action. I would certainly not allow anyone to hit tied up cattle for fun.

That is poor stockman ship & not typical. Main problem is poor design of the handling system which is making hard work for the drovers. A few curves, a raised loading ramp & some straw would work wonders. Yes a drover needs a stick for self defence & to apply gentle pressure but not to use like that. The halter is not really helping because the stress is making the animal more timid of the truck's ramp.
