Hey, fact fans... See that camcorder Midge is waving about on a stick? That's a Sony CCD-M8, the first Handycam and the smallest camcorder available at the time... Most notible feature: You could record, but you couldn't play back... It did do colour though, so why all the clips taken on it here are in black & white is anyone's guess...
As for U-Vox, I learnt from it this principle: As soon as a band gets in a brass section and backing singers, start remembering the good old days...
@etchells29 Yeah, I was a tad bored that night... YT chucked this vid at me as suggestion, evoking long forgotten memories of the solid disapointment I felt at this tune and clip being the first offering after Lament... The only thing I could find vaugely interesting about it was the poxey camcorder... It was also used in the pop culture show 'No Limits', that one that had Jenny Powell in it... They stuck some guy on an island and let him record himself saying he drank water from a condom......
So did I! It was an excellent concert and I heard on the radio (Program 3) that the band really liked the venue and the audience - apparently it was their favourite show in Poland at the time...
yeah, the start of the end. It seems like a lot of bands tried to "americanize" their sound around 1985-86 and the result was just to produce a fairly cheesy sound just like everyone else at the time! Ultravox had their own sound, but then they ditched it! Ironically, John Foxx was doing the same thing with "In Mysterious Ways"-under record company pressure apparently. But I prefer that innocent poppy charm to this Uvox album, which just seems to be chasing the buck a bit.
Sad but true. With the female backup singers and the horns, this sounds like a generic mid-80s slice of cheese that not even Midge's magnificent vocals can save. And seeing the 3 guys without Warren is just so wrong!
Midge does look as luscious as ever, especially when he smiles and shows his dimples, so at least we've got that LOL
helpless eyes? would that be helpless with laughter mister ure? you make me laugh when i shouldn't . and the "daft dancing" always makes me laugh no matter when or where i see it. love you midge.
i hated this album when it was first released but I've gradually grown to appreciate most of it, The Prize is the only thing I still can't stand - ghastly. The complete lack of euro-sounding synths was the hardest thing to get to grips with. but one good thing about this era is at least midge and chris cut their hair again!
When I saw this video and heard, specially heard, this song, I said...
Is this Ultravox? The same Utravox who creates beauty like Rage in Eden or White China?

Saw them performing SOS in 1986. Wrocław Hala Ludowa - U-Vox tour . Opening song. Unforgetable.
