@trixon45 Mac is Unix based OS and you can't compare a Mac to Windows... If you wanna compare them then put a linux distro eg.:Ubuntu on a PC with the same hardware as the Mac have and then you'll see the same (or faster) boot time.

wow yeah, £70 well spent, for 10seconds faster boot time, that's literally all it has going for it. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a vista fanboy. but if you have 4gb of ram and above, you really don't need to 'upgrade' to windows 7. Gaming is also exactly the same performance on both OS.

I would like to know if SP2 was installed on that Vista. After SP2 real world performance between Vista and 7 are not that different. In my opinion Vista was a much more mature OS as 7 is stripped down. Seven has no calendaring, mail, etc. You have to download that silly good for nothing Windows Live Suite. Vista visually always looked better than 7 too. I used to have Vista an went to 7, I miss Vista. The reason vista didnt do so well is because people tried to run it on sub par hardware

@clemsonbloke strange I had both (Vista SP2 on my old HP first gen Core 2 Duo Centrino laptop and 7 on my new HP first gen Laptop loaded with 7 Pro).I can honestly tell you that Vista SP2 is slower than 7. I installed 7 HomeP on my old PC and now it can boot up in under 55secs (it used to take well over 2 minutes when it was running Vista). As for my new PC, when I first got it, it could boot up in less than 25 secs, after a yr or so it boot up speed varies from 30 to 55 secs. so 7> vista to me

@manutd1968 That is interesting, I have a machine that boots to the sign in screen in 25 seconds. It is a Dell Optiplex 755 dual core with 2GB DDR2. It's ok if you like 7, I have 7 on my big powerful machine. Under windows scores it shows my hard disk as 5.3 in vista, thats on an 80GB WD. My RAID 0 setup on my big mama computer shows only 5.9 score. To me Windows 7 was a downgrade. They took out so much of the OS. I entertain you to consider this:

@clemsonbloke my Pavilion dv6000 can get to the sign in screen within 35 secs, but it takes about 15 seconds to logon, on the other hand my Pavilion dv6t (Quad) can get to the login screen within 23 seconds (Normally it takes me 1-10 secs to get that shitty biometric reader to read my fingerprint to log me on, plus another 10-20 seconds logon time). I don't use half the stuff that came with Vista (Calendar, Gallery etc...), I use Windows Live Mail and HP MediaSmart for photos and videos.

Well it will not allow me to post links but lookup features that were taken out of 7, you'll find it is quite a significant amount. Do not forget Vista is essentially server 2008 minus the server features but the core of the system is the same. That is why the service packs for Vista are also for Server 2008. Windows 7 isn't the same and now they're talking about Windows 8. The reason Vista did not run well for most is because they did not have good hardware. It was a game changer

1:42, Why does Vista has no Aero enabled on that machine?... In this OSes Aero has an important impact regarding performance (Aero uses the GPU to take some load off the CPU)

Good comparison BTW, I use W7 and is way better than Vista, and is not just speed, but features like Aero Peek and the Taskbar enhacements ;)

I miss XP so much! Windows 7 feels like a step back in that it crashes a few times per week and takes ages to load. I kept my old trusty XP system up for months at a time with no problems at all, but I'm lucky to keep my Win 7 box up for a week straight! And Win 7 is so damn prone to viruses; I never caught a single one in XP for 7 years simply by being vigilent, no anti-virus needed!

XP is the most stable OS I've ever used, except for MS-DOS. And I've used OSs such as Solaris, Linux, CP/M etc.
