@98CiViC0301 It all depends of what sound you like better, Look up your motor & the corresponding muffler and listen to some audio clips on youtube! :)
few questions...was it difficult to do? how does it run? and was it worth it meaning is it fast? i would really like ur point of view on this cause im thinking of doing this same swap and i here lt1 swaps r better then ls1 swaps...
@MrJdevil85 It depends on your ability as a mechanic. It runs great. Id suggest anyone to build an LS before an LT tho. The technology is just newer and better and you get more power out of it. It costs a little more but id say its definitely worth it. The car is pretty fast, but faster is always better.
@567zay The large one is a Tachometer w/ shift light. The others are just basic, boost/vacuum, oil pressure, and water temp put into a fbody pillar pod.
@judd204 ha realistically you never get back what you put in. I bought the car for $5000, put probably close to $10,000 into it. I would probably be lucky to get 7 or 8
@IrocZGuy87 oh okay thanks ya i have a 82 camaro, 305 v8 and im trying to get rid of it for 2-3000 looking to get a camaro with the work already put in lol.
@TheChrisExtreme Most likely yes its a 95 LT1 with a matching ECU for that year that was spliced into the Original 87 ECU Harness. Quite a pain in the ass. Im not sure when they started using them though.
Yea that's an 85 or an 86 not an 87. not tryin to piss ya off. 87 and later say iroc on the back part of the door and not at the front plus on the bumper of 87 & up they say IROC-Z and not Z28 cause mine's an 86.
@54Marlboro Upon a quick 10 second google search I was able to see that most 87 Irocs side decals are up front and not in the back, while a few do seem to have it in the rear Also I know what my vin# is which proves the car is an 87. The Bumper says z28 because the car came with a 305 carb, not tpi. The car is a 1987 model. 86 Camaros' also had a 3rd brake light eye on the back window up top.
@54Marlboro My 87 I owned up to 4 months ago was a 305 Carbed Iroc and all the decals are identical to to one in this video. And kudos on the 3rd brake light. I didnt even know that till last year LOL.
@IrocZGuy87 let me clarify, all iroc decals were on front of door up through 87 and 88 started putting them at the back of the door. so 87s with the decal at front it is not stock that way. someone fucked up!
@IrocZGuy87 This is how you know # Vehicle Identification Example: 1G1FP21HXHL100001 Fifth digit is model level: P= Camaro (all models). # Sixth digit is body style: -2=Hatchback Coupe -3=Convertible. # Eighth digit is engine code: -8=350ci V8 (B2L) -F=305ci V8 (LB9) -H=305ci V8 (LG4) -S=173ci V6 (LB8) # Tenth digit is model year: H=1987 # Eleventh digit is N for Norwood assembly, L for Van Nuys. # Last six digits increased one for each car built at each plant.
@APontiacof455cubes I think this discussion has ended up rite into the laps of guys that actually BUILT the IROCS on the assembly line, and they can tell you that there was NO specific order for which the sticker was to be placed. Some are up front and some in the rear.HOWEVER...I do believe that IrocZGuy87....is full of shit,if he thinks that an 87 model IROC-Z came in a 305 with a carb.....throttle body....maybe...maybe.Carb.....NO way in hell.

Hey man, awsome Camaro, ive got a 91' myself and have been wanting to swap a 383 stroked LT1 into it, was there much that needed to be done with this? Or pretty much just bolt up? What all was needed?
@Ratmouth66 Well LTs are getting pretty old, once u drop it in. You will need an LT1 ECU & the whole wirring harness which then must be spliced into the old existing stock harness. Not a job for some1 who dosnt know what their doing. I paid to have the car wired. Prices have dropped since I built my LT1. If I were you I would look into an LS1 or LS2.
@IrocZGuy87 yeah, thanks for the suggestion, i thought about that too, at first my idea was just to rebuild a 350 for it, then i thought about the LT1s and i especially liked the stroked 383 LT1s and was gonna look into that, depending on price and difficutly differences i might go with an LS over an LT, im not sure which would be easier or cheaper though, i'll do some more homework ;-)

It depends on the application your using it for. I drag but I also like to cruise around town and on the highway. So i wanted a motor that could do both easily and still get good fuel economy.
oh yeah definatley i had a cammed 93 6 spd lt1 it was fast but the car is like 3800 pounds putting that motor in one of these would be crazy which is how i hope mine turns out
@81TransAmJunkie same thing happen to me about 2 yrs ago, this dude tried to sell me a "95' SS" and I kept tellingthe guy that the 4th Gen SS didn't come out until 96/97 and he still argued with me. I didn't buy his car. I hate false advertising, like a bitch with a push up bra...
@tones323 Its actually a Custom built piece, any performance shop should carry piping and a conical filter to put on the end, cost me under $100 & looks great.
No, actually only the True 350 T.P.I. Irocs came with the 150mph speedo or unless the car was ordered special from the factory with one. All of the 305motor camaros or irocs came equipped with 85mph speedos by default.
oh, haha i really dont know anymore. wikipedia tells me one thing, my boss tells me another, people on here tell me another. i dont know haha. mine had a 305 but has a 150 speedo, but its a 87. maby it was changed for certain years? that would make sense to me.
There were three different 305 motor IROCs, 170 4bbl,190hp TPI, and the 215 H.O. TPI. which was only made as a 5 speed. I think that one might have came with the 150 mph one. None the less I already bought a new one... but man is that dash a pain in the ass to remove that speedo.
yeah i know it is! my speedo shows 20mph faster than im going. mine was a TPI 305 with the 4speed auto, wich now has a shift kit in it. one day i want to drop in a LS9, with a zo6 6spd tranny. *one day. haha for now can only afford the LT
my trans is acting up when its cold my trans shifts hard then when it warms up its shifts a lil better but now its not wanting to shift outta 1st gear....it was just rebuilt two years ago any pointers? its automatic btw
Stock Motor? Is the rebuild on the trans stock? Transmissions on older cars always shift harder when its cold till it warms up. Could be not enough trans fluid fluid inside. If you did something to it, you may have broke parts of your 1st gear.
when you did the swap did you use the wireing that came with the donor car or did you use a new one from painless? i have a 1992 camaro with a 305 TBI and i want to do the swap but everyone says to get a painless wireing kit that it will be better but its like $685 that i dnt have, the lt1 i have has everything wireing,ecm,etc,etc....if you could help me out that would be great! thanx
The wiring harness came from a donor car and it was a pain. If you get a wiring kit it will save you a hassle im sure but I don't really know much about it sorry.
Your iroc looks great. really nice. The fin isn't a big deal mine had like chips of it coming off, not just the paint the actual spoiler, i just got a whole new one it would have been too hard to fix. I'm getting mine ready to be painted :D
first of all, that is a nice ass iroc. im gettin ready for an lt1 swap in my 90 rs. any big snags you ran into swapping the lt1 in? what did you run for a tranny? how bad was the wiring?
How much of a process of wiring will depend on the previous motor you had in the car. If its a TPI setup already it will help the swap along, very difficult process. Im planning on rebuilding the 700R4 it came with because I like having 4 gears in case I want to cruise the freeway at 2500rpm@ 70 mph.
Very nice car. I found a running LT1 donor car for $300. Its a hell of a deal but the only thing that worries me is all the wiring involed with the swap. I wanted to know is the swap/wiring worth it? or should I do a 350 TPI setup. My goal is 300-320hp with either one. What do you think is better for the performance/money?
Chances are if your going TPI of any kind theres going to be some wirring involved. It also depends on what kind of motor was in the car originally. You can have it wired professionally for probably around $1500 or so. If you dont know what your doing, your best to just drop in a carburated 350 crate motor.
Good point because im doing everything with a friend. The person who is helping me with it knows TPI setups like the back of his hand because he's had a ton of them (now he drives a carbed 450HP 406ci Iroc) and he said it can be done in about 2 days. But the LT1 wiring will take about a week or so. Also the TPI will be cheaper but I dont know if I can pass up a deal on that LT1 car because it only $300. I forgot to ask how hard does your car pull at highway speeds?
Its about a 350rwhp motor with the work I have done to it, It pulls good. I havnt really driven anything else as fast so I have nothing to compare it to but im definitely happy with the results. Tranny still needs to be rebuilt so I can really slam on it.
Well ive givin it some thought and Im almost sure I want to go with the LT1 setup. I gave they guy with the LT1 a call and he said I can have it for $260 cash so I cant turn that down. It my be a ton of wiring, but to get a running car with a 5.7 LT1 for under 300 bucks is a helluva deal. Anyways keep the videos coming because thats one badass car.
I usually get there before they let you in..so I probably did see your car but..with so many ppl. & distractions..I can't remember..lol..although..I do remember a Camaro similar in line passing me..I was driving a white Chevelle...
The tint is purple because its old, its on my list of things to be done. Speedo if off because of the 3.73 gears, so getting a new one wouldnt help much anyway. Not like I need to look @ it to tell how fast im going anywayz, but thanks.
should i get a magnaflow or flowmaster for my 3rd gen?

@Ratmouth66 Yea its best to do your research on it.

Nice job with the engine. Not so sure about the purple tint or the unneccesary gauges. Maybe you should look into a speedo that goes over 85 first.
ssz28envy 2 years ago
The tint is purple because its old, its on my list of things to be done. Speedo if off because of the 3.73 gears, so getting a new one wouldnt help much anyway. Not like I need to look @ it to tell how fast im going anywayz, but thanks.

Nice car. I love the LT1's and it looks great in there! The only thing I dont really like about the 3rd Gens are how heavy the doors are.
