2inches??? If you were aiming at its hairline on the top of its back maybe. If you were aiming at the vitals then you missed by like 12 inches. The second shot hit high as well.

From less than 30-yards I took my shot on the biggest and he was on the ground in the time it took me to blink from the shot. There was nothing left of his heart and I was able to put my fist through the exit wound...this video reminded me of it.

You're correct....everyone that's hunted for a long time will miss, However most people that hunts will choose a doe that they are ABSOLUTLY sure does not have a yearling fawn with them. It looks like you have a quality place to hunt. I encourage you to keep it that way.

Cool 200+ yards for a 7 mag makes for an ideal shot. I usually use whatever weapons sound interesting at the time of a hunt. I've killed a whitetail at 40 yards with a p-11 9mm and one at 305 yards with a su-16 .223 of course I got a couple insults about being "unethical" over both of those but I still say it beats starving to death or being injured by a car.
Wow just got another message about how the .223 remington is a "small game" round not suitable for deer. Well it is suitable for deer it kills them just fine in 1 shot. 64 grain federal jacketed soft points at 2900 feet per second from a keltec su-16c has done the job every time. The wounds that this "little" round inflicts are comparable to a .243 or .280 rifle in that it turns the surrounding tissue to jelly and puts the animal down in its tracks.

Ive been hunting all my life and hes right if youve havent been humbled by a miss then you havent been hunting long enough. As far as all you trophy hunters go...I think you should re-evaluate why you hunt in the first place. Hunting is for food not for antlers and bragging. I had the same thing happen to me. Shot a doe (which ended up being a button!) and three more does actually RAN TOWARDS MY STAND. I reloaded, and the brass almost hit one on the head. I shot and missed, the reloaded AGAIN, and shot it. I hit the second one and she flopped right down. I didn't have any bullets left, and as I'm about to celebrate my "two-fer", that doe hoppped up and gimped off in the woods behing the other 2 dumb does. Never found her!

Good shot. I also use a 7mm mag. But mines a remington model 710. I shot a buck Saturday morning with it but the craziest shit happened. I made him buckle up and flop on his back and then he just trotted of while I was letting him die. I waited a while and when I went to go track it, there was no blood within 100 yds of where it fell. That 7 mag usuall just blows a hole in them. Have you ever heard of anything like that before. I've never had a deer buckle like that w/out a hit.

@goofygoobeer core lokts are good target ammo to todays standard. Im not a fan of missing/wounding animals. I never missed and I never had anything run more than a few yards including 500 yard shots in 20mph crosswinds in wyoming on antelope. The reason that ammo is risky is due to its OVER expansion. It has no control and often affects penetration and absolutely haults penetration if it seperates. I use hand loads with hornady interbonds/barnes/berger. depends on the rifle and game.

what are your views of the 7mm rem mag VS the 30-06? I can't decide, I'm leaning more towards the 7mm. Have any input, going to hunt pig, deer, elk. Maybe bear, but very very very unlikely.
Both are good guns,i have both.The 30-06 is a good all around gun,doesnt really have alot of recoil.The 7mag is more of a hard hitting gun.Can be used for alot of different types of game.I has recoil but can(in my opinion) is more powerfull,and can shoot longer distances with accruacy.Both are good,if u dont mind the recoil,go with the 7,mag.
30-06 is fine for any type of north american game, however I cannot answer your question because I have no experience with 7mm rem mag. Either one will make your happy :)

That 7 mag usuall just blows a hole in them. Have you ever heard of anything like that before. I've never had a deer buckle like that w/out a hit.

Thanks man.But it is not like this anymore.Oil ppl have put a big tank with a gravel road right where that tree used 2 be.......(my skinning tree).Now there are ppl coming in left and right,hopefully the will get the fuck out wen hunting seaso rolls around.But im still hunting in te same spot,might move my stands.We just paid the 1,000$ to hun there this year,not like it used2 be.Kinda sad because some of my best memories were hunting with my g paw.Been hunting since i was like 7 or 8...

@goofygoobeer core lokts are good target ammo to todays standard. Im not a fan of missing/wounding animals. I never missed and I never had anything run more than a few yards including 500 yard shots in 20mph crosswinds in wyoming on antelope. The reason that ammo is risky is due to its OVER expansion. It has no control and often affects penetration and absolutely haults penetration if it seperates. I use hand loads with hornady interbonds/barnes/berger. depends on the rifle and game.

what are your views of the 7mm rem mag VS the 30-06? I can't decide, I'm leaning more towards the 7mm. Have any input, going to hunt pig, deer, elk. Maybe bear, but very very very unlikely.

Both are good guns,i have both.The 30-06 is a good all around gun,doesnt really have alot of recoil.The 7mag is more of a hard hitting gun.Can be used for alot of different types of game.I has recoil but can(in my opinion) is more powerfull,and can shoot longer distances with accruacy.Both are good,if u dont mind the recoil,go with the 7,mag.
