I think he was simply tired of this song. I saw him in the early 2000's and he really didn't want to sing it. But it made them both famous and he should be grateful. And he has a wonderful voice. I think he sold himself short with the music he sang. I love it, but it's not timeless.

i love this song, my mama used to play it when i was little. (i prefer music that took place between the 60's and 90's to this techno crud thats out now.)

however, i find that i prefer the recording to the live perfomance (it could just my 20 year old brain not understanding the significance of it all) but i feel as if the recording has WAAAY MORE EMOTION than this particular performance. it sounds more like he's just trying to get the crowd hype. he is a talented live perfomer though

@daisyplayer The live version has its own groove ... it's a different groove from the album, but both are good. Many performers, maybe most, speed up the tempo in a live show. It's just a different situation and it's easier to get the crowd into it if you do it a little faster. And they want to have something for their guitarist to do, so they have him play on the live version, so it becomes kind of a different song. But that's what makes these guys such great artists.
