John-Mark, this is really excellent! Thank you for sharing the true perspective of an MK. I am a Children's Pastor and I will be sharing on being a missionary with about 100 Kind.-6th graders. I will be using your video. Well done! God bless you and your family!
Great video. I can totally relate, although for me the hardest transition was moving to the U.S.. California is extremely different culturally from Papua New Guinea :D I really miss my home in PNG and family that still lives there, but I've begun to realize that California has some good sides too. I think moving from one country to another helps mk's to be more aware of the cultural strengths and weaknesses of both.
Excellent job! I think you captured how so many of us MKs feel (I was in Indonesia in the 70s-80s. I feel as home in Indonesia as I do in the US now after living in the US since 82. There are parts of my experience in Indonesia (people, happenings, food) that I will forever cherish. I'm so grateful for my experiences as an MK but also know of other MKs who hated every minute of their experience.
John-Mark, I appreciate what you've done with these clips...put them together into a beautiful whole. And I love hearing your voice telling the truth about how you felt with a foot on each continent. lovely -lawa
Well done. I lived in Mali for a year and worked at ICA for two years. I came back to the states to get a degree in visual journalism, and now we're headed back to Mali. Maybe we'll work on a film together in Mali some day... and then we'll say we met on Youtube.
He is there because Jesus told his parents to. And missionaries can be seen as pests.
And yes, as a missionary I do tell people that unless they believe Jesus is the Son Of God, and they accept His payment for sin, then they are damned to hell.
He forgot to mention though that the reason he was there. It was because his parents believed that the supserstitious things they held dear were of great importance & needed to be spread abroad.
They became a 'missionary'. Seen to themselves as messengers of "God" but others as mere pests.
Missionaries basically trot around the world telling people: "What you beleive is wrong & unless you beleive as I do - you're damned to hell."
John, Your home is in heaven with the Father. You are only a pilgrim here on earth so where you live or for how long in which country here has nothing to do with our great reality. This is only a short time of our lives here. Store up treasure in Heaven, and live for the kingdom that has no end. We all should fee like pilgrims here and that this is not our home. You are a lesson and reminder for us all. Foxes have holes, the birds have nests, but on earth even the Son had no where to call home.
Home is where the heart is and my heart is all over Latin America. Thanks for sharing. You have no idea how many people feel the same way! MK's sure are special people!! :)
That was very good... I'm an MK, though not as obviously one as you were. Here in the UAE there are already lots of Westerners... but sometimes I do feel torn between 2 places or all of that stuff...
