@airsoftairbornteam, If you use the schedule 40 PVC materials it should be as strong as some of the commercial batting cages around. Just make sure its big enough to accommodate your home run swing.
@smokesperson I don't use cement, somehow it stays together. It's true that not all schedule 40 pipes are identical. Either the connectors or the pipe diameter varies so i tried pre-fitting before cutting.
@justadad95070 Thanks, built it alone last year much easier than this year. We (husband joined me and "helped") needed to realize you started building the middle, then the top and finally the bottom legs. We use quilts that I make for the walls each year.
Love your sukkah! Is there any way you can post your instructions again? This looks great to us, but we can't read the measurements page too well. Thanks!
I contacted this very kind man and got detailed instructions. I took me (single handedly) about 5 hours to measure, cut and construct the Sukkah. I took the extra step of color coding the parts (ends of PVC/ and corresponding joints) so I can quickly assemble it. This will last for decades; it's easy to put up/ take down, stores conveniently, is sturdy, and best of all, looks lovely!
Notice the cut he is making 0:15 takes him a lot of sawing back and forth? It looks like he either has a cheap and dull hacksaw blade, or it has fine teeth, usually used for metal cutting.
PVC pipe will be easier quicker to cut if you make sure that the hacksaw blade you have is 18 teeth per inch. I personally also like to sometimes put the hacksaw blade in backwards so that it cuts on the pull and the push, and it doesn't bind.
Changing any of the dimensions is a matter of scaling. I made a miniature version version as a demonstration a few years ago. It was a matter of determining the scaling factor and applying it to all pieces. The great thing about PVC is that it allows a lot of flexibility, people have communicated to me variations on the design. If it works for them that's great.
Material list, cutting diagram, and other diagrams in video are available for download at files.me.com/dave95070/z2gnmq. The link will be available through the end of October. It's time I started myself. Happy Construction.
@justadad95070 Thank you so much..the entry is on the 12' right? I think I will have to make changes to have the entry on the 10' part, not sure how I will make the changes, any suggestions?
Outstanding! It would also make a great inexpensive permaculture shadehouse attached to the north side of a house or cabin. It would act as a wall and roof trellis for growing edible vines. It would also cool the air which would enter the house through an open door or windows and thus help cool the house. It would be a great place for sitting outside in the summer during the day or evening and could easily be dismantled in winter.
If you want a copy of any of the materials shown in the video contact me.

Very nice! You should open an account on the Instructables web site and write up an instructable on this.

Did you use PVC cement? If not, how did you stabilize it? I have tried and mine keeps collapsing!

This looks really great - and I've just had a really frustrating experience trying to make a sukkah from a diy on-line page.
Can you provide a more schematic model of this that might be easier to duplicate? Something that showed where each particular pipe length goes???
Best,
Emily
