First off, unless you want to get bitten and chance your life, I would leave the snake alone. Just walk around it. Second, the snake "gets bigger" because it inflates itself for defensive purposes. Respecting the natural world is a big part of respecting yourselves. "Chasing it into the street" is a good way of NOT being respectful. Snakes have a role in the natural circle, without them we'd be completely overrun with rodents and other crop destructive pests.
