Images are good at normal sizeswhich you use for Web or wallpaper aor normal use. And afterall sx30is never claimed to be a d-slr so we shouldnt expect it to be like them..!! i really appreciate ur discussions in the comments and the video. Am buyin it now for sure. Thanx.
p.s. Heard SX40is is round the corner with better image quality n dgic 5 processor ;P
Hey thank u very much for this wonderful upload.. i read 100s of reviews n went thru 1000s of user comments as i want to buy this cam.. i dont want to take risk coz i dont have the return policy and i cant spend that sum of money again.
After so much of research i was in a little dilemma as 70% people said that the image quality is not good. But most of them were talking about the image quality when u magnify the image to 100% i.e. when u take print out of images. Images are GOOD.
im stuck between this camera and sony hx1 is there any lense filter that can help minizine that purple line problem? also how is panaroma mode? i wish sony had the miniature mode then the decision would be easier
@SunDaygoPinoy I don't think you can overcome this issue with the purple/magenta line from the sensor in bright light it's a problem that exists in all cameras using this design and a neutral density filter will cut down the light but also darken your exposed scene so when the camera adjusts for this the streak is just the same.
We are getting closer to the moment when video cameras and still cameras merge. SX-30 is almost it. We still need FULLHD, and some kind of compromise in ergonomics. But I tell you this camera kicks ass, in a few years time we may well have our dream cam come true!
Hello. Great review on this Camera, but I just had a few questions. This I'm attempting to add a light and Mic feature if possible. I was wondering if this had wireless mic capability?
@lifewasters yes, you can select manual focus on the lens barrel then use the thumbwheel on the camera to focus - the trouble is you will hear the clicks of the wheel as you change focus.
@ghough12 Thank you for your informative reply. If that camera had a microphone input, that problem would be eliminated. I read that zoom noise is also picked up by the microphones. Two missing features would have made this camera complete, for me anyway: time lapse and remote shutter, wired or wireless. I guess we can't have everything we want. If I had this camera, I would record wildlife in HD and use my own music in the background. Thank you again for replying.
@chrisw443 Sorry for late reponse. Absolutely the video quality is far superior and much more control. The only downside is the clip lengths are just 12min long (2GB file limit) plus you will need additional lenses to get the same overal zoom as the sx30 - and they don't come cheap! - I guess it really depends on your subject matter as to what is really needed. Graham
@ilikepi0o7 - same here, hs10 os sx30, picked up both today and the sx30 is a let down in feel, the hs10 grip is SO much better, sx30 very plasticky, but the lcd is almost a fixed item on the hs10..... neither have mic inputs but at this price they wont have, if you want to compare shots, type the model numbers into flicr to see stills and check the exif data make sure your looking at right camera some are misleading. look at star shots for image noise too. avoid the s2800d (video zoom..)
I can't decide whether to get the Canon SX30 or the Panasonic Lumix FZ-100. In your opinion which do you think is the better buy? Which has better quality in videos, and photos? To me, it seems that the FZ-100 has better quality in video.
@Katherinea1492 Hi, this is a real tough call, Several people I know have had the same problem. Even with both cameras purchased from amazon and running side by side comparisons it is still difficult to choose. For me the fz100 is a better camera, more manual control for video and better video. For stills the sx30 is just a little bit better and if wildlife is your scene then the 35x zoom is superb. At wide angle this lens is very poor with lots of fringing. canaon accessories are expensive. G.
@ghough12 Thank you! I have a feeling that I may go with the fz100. I go to many concerts, and I like to record a lot. I take pictures as well, but I would prefer a better video.
@ghough12 Thanks so much for answering this question though I am still stuck in Limbo. For some strange reason, I keep heading towards the FZ100 and I dont want to make the wrong choice. Is the picture quality really that bad & noticable on the FZ100. I'm no professional but love to do photography (family photos, outdoors, not fun of bugs but love butterflies, scenery) and love to look at CRISP pictures. Please make me choose!!! I cant on my own. Thanks!
@Katherinea1492 Hi Katherine, thanks so much for asking this question. I've have been researching this exact question for the past weeks and I'm still at a stand still about which one to choose. From what I've learned, the Canon takes greater photos and the FZ100 shoots better movies. Please tell me which did you decide to get and what's your opinion. Ok to inbox me if needed. I cant wait for your response. Thanks!
@iLikePie0o7 I have read good reports on the HS10 but have no direct knowledge of it The sx30 is great for stills but a little weak for video - no manual control, light streaks on highlights are my main downers on it.
@dontmindthisone yes, you can select manual focus on the lens barrel then use the thumbwheel on the camera to focus - the trouble is you will hear the clicks of the wheel as you change focus.
@jellowfx in the camera, especially wide angle the CA are quite pronounced if you crop the image. In corel paint shop pro photo X2 it's easy to eliminate automatically. In photoshop not so easy. I think the lens is designed to give its best results mid to long telephoto so high contrast wide angle shots really do suffer if you crop the photo, at normal magnification or on tv it's probably acceptable for most people who may not even be aware of what it is.

@jasta01mkcoi I take it you are trying to upload the camera files? They are 24Mbps bandwidth. Youtube maximum data rate is about 8 Mbps (so i am led to believe) so uploading raw files is 3 times more than you need to. Put your files into an editor, and then set the rendering to be 720p windows media video at about 8Mbps. a 10 minute hd file at 8mbps normally uploads in about an hour.
@flaviaag For this video i used sony vegas home studio 9, but as the file from the canon is a h264 wrapped in a .mov format you will be able to edit in almost every video editor.

Nice video and nice photos. I see you bought the product last canon. I wonder if the considered equal, higher or lower than the fz100. If it is really a great camera, you buy it.
@AZOROJO yes i was tempted by the longer zoom (35x) of the canon for my wildlife photography. In this respect it is very good, however at wide angle there is quite a noticable amount of fringing (chromatic abberation) if you enlarge the image too much. The low light performance is not as good as the fz100.
I am looking forward to buy this camera. Is it possible for you to upload the original video and image files anywhere for me to download please? Because I guess youtube might have altered the original quality, otherwise I could have downloaded the 720p video from here itself
Thanks for sharing video and unedited still images from canon SX30 Is camera. A great Job for people like me who are very keen to see the performance of new model.
@s1044542 Thanks for viewing. It is early days yet - still getting to know it. However 2 things are letting it down at the moment. The highlight (bright image) streaks and the position of the video record button when using the camera evf - you just can't get your finger to the button without moving the camera away from your eye.
@ghough12 One more negative thing you can add here is no uncompressed image (RAW). I own APS-C SLR cameras but do not want to invest in telescopic lenses because of price, size and weight. This camera can meet my long Zoom requirements. Look forward to your another in-depth review as and when camera is available. Thanks for your input.

@dercabro The Panasonic lumix fz100 supports both RAW and user defineable color profiles or more pro spec is the LX5 from panasonic.
