  • this cover is so fucking fresh!!

  • Very nice job there, Mr. Drummer Boy! Your performance of this great song was very worthy. Thanks for posting this to YT so that all of us non-drummers can actually see the physical effort it takes to perform on a killer drum set like yours. BTW, don't worry about any of the negative comments by folks who can't even type a complete sentence using actual words, grammar and punctuation. I'll bet they can't even handle a set of chop sticks. You make playing the drums look fun and easy.

  • @lbdausa

Thank you for the kind words! I really do appreciate it.

  • Outstandable!

  • WOW 10+!!!!!!!

  • Nice cover on this song, I am impressed and entertained. Keep up on the practice, Would like to see and hear more soon

  • ur fills are off so calm down with them and also there are some parts that u are doing wrong compared to the recording but it is a great cover

  • Very impressive... and just watched "Jamming in 7". Really good stuff there. Inspiring to say the least. Thanks for sharing your videos.

  • @brianteel2000

Thanks! I'm really glad you like them!

  • Too many things used in this video. Made it more complicated than it needed to be. If you wanted to do that stuff, you should use a updated version using Todd's drums sounds if you want to go crazier with it. Drum covers are typically you playing what the drummer played, not adding way more than needed in the video.

  • @Xatrocity1xx

But what if I WANTED to play more than was in the original? I put drum covers up for fun, not to boringly copy what the previous drummer did exactly. It's just my interpretation of the song, and I pay no attention to what "drum covers are typically."

  • @SnareSpectre Then why are you calling it a "Drum Cover" in your title?

  • @Xatrocity1xx

Because it is a drum cover. Since when are "covers" exact replicas of the original song? Even musicians who perform their own music in live concerts don't play the songs the same way every time; why should I be bound by some arbitrary, nonexistent rule?

  • @SnareSpectre Thats the thing. Its not a drum cover. The parts you play aren't even close to what the song is. When someone wants to see a drum cover, they wanna see you play to it as close as you can. Not adding your own stuff that makes the song sound ridiculous.

  • @Xatrocity1xx

Sigh. Why don't you try putting up some videos of your own, and witness for yourself the people that act as though they are entitled to dictate exactly what it is you do on your channel?

What astounds me the most, however, is the fact that you didn't see what you wanted to see when you watched this video, then instead of just leaving and watching another one (like a normal person) you decided to take the time to criticize and argue with me over it.

  • @SnareSpectre I would if I had the technology. And thats what happens when you put up a video of you playing something. Someone is going to disagree with you and thats just life. So you can either take it as very direct criticism or just ignore the living hell out of it. But heres the thing, your only antagonizing me by writing back, you know. I'm not here to see some kid playing unneccesary licks, I'm here to someone playing music with character and emotion behind it. I didn't see that once.

  • @Xatrocity1xx

I have the option of ignoring your comments, yet you don't exercise the same option when it comes to watching my video? If you don't have the technology to make your own videos, fine - but you need to realize it gives your comments very little weight. I don't mind having this conversation with you, but could you at least move this to private messages? Most people who watch my videos enjoy them, and I'm pretty sure they don't care to read your persistent attempts to insult me.

  • @SnareSpectre actually, its kind of hilarious to watch your detractors fall on their face every time they try to insult you ;). Keep having fun, amn, that's what it's about when you're doing something like this. Sounds awesome to me.

  • @Xatrocity1xx "I'm not here to see some kid playing unneccesary licks"... its called creativity you fuck

  • Comment removed

  • @Xatrocity1xx sounds like you're just running your damn mouth prick.

  • freakin perfect man awesome

  • Sorry dude - "more" doesn't mean "better." Yeah, you have a nice full bag of chops, but using every one of your licks on a very simple song only means you're overplaying. That's drumming 101.

  • @roguehk

Dadgum...I KNEW I should have consulted you before doing this cover! Next time I think about playing a little more on a song than is in the original track, I'll clear it with you before I post it, k?

  • @SnareSpectre - No, here's a better idea: when you post something for public viewing, have the sack to take criticism. Or is your ego that fragile? Oh yeah, it is - you're a "drummer." By the way - sarcasm is about as cool as putting every lick you know into a Styx song. Maybe "Come Sail Away" is a better fit.

  • @roguehk

I get comments like yours from people who like to insult people over the internet to make themselves feel better probably once a week, so I'm used to it. Don't worry, I don't have a fragile ego - I simply post videos for fun. As for the sarcasm, I typically use it when I get pointless comments because it A) goes over the poster's head, or B) makes them angry because they're immature and take things like internet drum videos too seriously.

    You would be option (B).

  • @SnareSpectre @SnareSpectre Nope - doesn't do anything for me. I'm taking one for the players who know "the pocket" isn't that thing on the side of your pants.

And grow a thicker skin - anyone posting a vid of his playing on a public forum invites opinion. Don't get pissy when it happens.

Finally, it takes a lot more than some Guitar Center hero throwing more unnecessary licks in a song than Gene Simmons to get under my skin. The aforementioned pocket? Learn to play in it.

  • You proved that this video got under your skin when you posted the first time. You didn't merely say you had different preferences; you blasted it as if its existence alone offended you, which I find very amusing.

What's also particularly amusing is how you just removed your own drum video during the course of our conversation. I have over 50 drum videos that anyone can watch, and you had 1 that you just took down. Looks like you're the one who's afraid of a little criticism. :)

  • @SnareSpectre

    Point, game and match :-)

  • ziljian and sabian called. they want their company back

  • Haha!

Sabian must not be doing too well if their company consists of just one cymbal. :)

  • @SnareSpectre oh i guess then only ziljian called then (a)

  • You have some killer skills on the drums....for sure ! ! ! ! !

Now for this video, your timing is off in many places, your fills are too numerous and you "over-drum" the song. For a " cover " .....most of the drumming is incorrect and you play wrong parts in a lot of the song.

Again keeping in mind that you posted this video as a "cover"...might want to re-post it as a "interpretation"............that would be more appropriate.

    Great job on your interpretation ! ! ! ! ! ! !

  • @bubbasbarandgrill

The common understanding of "cover" is not "rendition".

For example, Van Halen covered "Pretty Woman" and "You Really Go Me " and they are not at all note-for-note renditions of the originals; they are covers (i.e. interpretations)

To "cover" means that you are attributing the authorship of the song to the original source, but playing the song in your own style.

Whether JD "over-drums" the song, is entirely subjective, I happen to think not.

  • Great Tribute! Very Nice Job!

  • Like your fill at 1:36

  • your pretty good but your hi hat sounds way too tight try loosing thenup on the top nut just a bit.

  • holy fuck

  • You Rock! This is Perfection. I've heard em all, you'res is the best! Rock On!

  • I agree. JD has the penultimate Blue Collar Man cover.

  • True, However, Your Kid is Awesome. I wish i could drum like that! I bet at the rate he's going that

by 15 he could be a working studio Musician! The kid's got 'it'!

    Rock On!

  • @ernmann I'd have to agree...Neil Allen is a name we need to be on the lookout for in the next 5-6 years! :)

  • great job in every aspect ,drumming , sound and video.

    very enjoyable!

  • Dude you're amazing! SUBSCRIBED!

  • On 1:36,I'm guessing the timing was on the money

  • how long have you been playin drums? beasty fills man

  • yeah iv notice that listeing to u and the albem version

  • Dude, the fill at 1:36... respect man...

  • Thanks!

I went back and watched that section when I saw your comment...and I can't figure out what I even did, lol. One of those things that just sorta popped out at the time, sounded pretty cool, and now I wish I could re-create it! :)

  • Haha.. After reading that guy's comment about that fill, I expected it to be like mindblowing, but it looked like you hesitated toward the end. I felt your other fills were better, but either way; great cover. Keep it up.

  • Depends what turns your crank. It obviously wasn't a flashy fill.

Musically, however; it was perfection, and technically the extremely tight spacing between the notes on different toms (around 20ms I'd guess), would make it quite difficult to copy exactly, even for a professional.

I think that fill is a stellar example of the artful use of substantial technique, purely in support of the music.

I wish I could play every fill so elegantly.

ps: yeah, all the other fills are good as well!

  • Well, that fill is really similar to a lot of fills that I do, but it didn't seem like it fit in that spot as well as it could have because the second half of the fill, it seems as if he hesitated.

  • FUCKING AMAZAzing

  • man, f-in amazing. styx is my all time favorite classic rock. great job. i hope to be as good a drummer as you one day.

  • very cool,drummer man

  • YES!!! u did one of my favorite songs of all time and completely made it even more amazing. great job! major props. 5 stars!
