  • @jodman176 Me too, I'll never tire of listening to this album. Been a favourite since before I was a teenager and I'm nearly 40 now!

  • Great under-rated band, not new wave at ALL , musica progressiva si ! 100%

    Bravi !

  • Genius.

  • How could anyone concider The The new wave? Progressive modern of the time if you ask me and in their own league if i have a say. Peter Gabriel did the same in his time and was just as brilliant, not trying to compare genre's but artists.

  • Definitely, one of the great sounds of the 80's...

  • GIANT. Best EVER. Number ONE, numero uno, Baby...

  • The entire album was a meditation on my life when it came out... when will people get sick of the current music and get back to this stuff, and just when you think the song cannot get any better... Johnson screams out "How can anyone know me when I Don't even know myself".

  • ahhhh yeahhhh...........

  • Got the album sitting around... and the cd

  • burning blue soul is amazing ,took ages to get into it but totaly awesome .loveThe The. bobbily84 you know fuck all ,watching a vid because of a tit on the screen ,GET BACK TO YOUR SHITTY R@B sleeze music .

  • ...Bit of "Talking Heads" in there....

  • How many times did I hear this one. ?????? cant count it anymore

    Still playing the Vinyl

One of my favr. albums ever

  • I did not care for much of the music around in the early/mid 80's, except The The.

    Thanks for rekindling happy memories.

  • It the deepest and darkest time of depression of my life once this album soothed my soul because it was even more darker than what I was experiencing!

  • Matt Johnson fuckin genius....................

  • Soul Mining is the best! Undoubtedly an influence on NIN, it sounds alot like Pretty Hate Machine. Two of the most addictive albums ever!

  • Bought into Matt so long ago I can't even recognise earth or its inhabitants, strange old world...Infect me with the truth...

  • finished so many nites off listening to this on headphones, trying desperately to come down but this tune kept the high coming and coming..thanks for sharing i only have vinyl so this is great....

  • All anyone seemingly (most) cares about today is thier LOUD ringtone "single" from thier favorite "Act".. but when I hear this I hear quiet grace in expression and frankly ass-kickin "Artistic" TRUTH!. Man I miss groundbreaking albums, revolutions and summers filled with brand new classics n abundance... but It's 2011 now and It's sad. God bless you for this!

  • Comment removed

  • I listen to this song and watch your video basically evry.single.day... at least 3 times a day.. for the lyrics alone. TRUTH spoken!. I can't thank you enough for Introducing me to this song & band!. And I consider myself a harvard professsor when It comes to knowing good music, digging beyond the beyond the last 10 years (because the last 10 years have been the worst decade for music evr imo and quality from 99 on back will never be reached again!.

  • The sun is high & I'm surrounded by sand for as far as my eyes can see I'm strapped into a rockin' chair with a blanket over my knees 'I' am a stranger to myself & nobody knows I'm here When I looked into my face it wasn't myself I'd seen but who I've tried to be.

I'm thinking of things I'd hoped to forget I'm choking to death in a sun that never sets I clogged up my mind with perpetual greed & turned all of my friends into enemies & now the past has returned to haunt me

  • I'm scared of god & scared of hell & I'm caving in upon myself

How can anyone know me when I don't even know myself

  • @KosmicCharley Yeah, it's pretty hard to judge seeing as the pix are such poor quality. /sigh!

  • Well worth the dodgy video to hear this fantastic song off one of my fave albums ever, does anyone remember the free disc of extended music with the original LP?

  • Jonny Marr plays Guitar...nuff said

  • @beelzebubscousin

This was from 1983. Jonny Marr joined The The for a short time in 1988.

Oddly I think Matt did ask him to play with the the before this album but Marr joined the Smiths instead.

    Thank god.

    The The sucked post infected.

  • Love this.... and my three year old has made it his favorite song... the one he wakes up singing.

  • Excellent

  • kinda dumb with the pic's. I don't get it...Oh just read the apologies. lol

  • goosebumps all over.... again (after 27 years!)

  • Percussion on this track is by Frank Want, an alias of the great JG Thirlwell, AKA Foetus. Best track on the album.

  • @brianartillery

Well he is only quoted a 'sticks' when other people are credited as 'Drums' and 'Percussion' so I can't imagine he did all that much.

  • purrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • Saw The The at The Albert Hall in the late 80s. Great stuff!

  • meget stort- et stort nummer

  • Just love The the all the way .... had so forgotten them and then play one track and I am stalking them all!! The good ole days!

  • I never noticed until now how the end of the Nine Inch Nails song "Closer" is very similar to this. A little creative "borrowing" by NIN!

  • I'm glad that my turntable broke and I never got it fixed. I bought a CD player instead.

Which means that my vinyl copy of Soul Mining is still in good nick :-)

  • fucking masterpiece

  • This is awesome- straight to favorites

  • Mind Bomb is one of those albums that always stays at the top of the CD stack. I remember buying the Vinyl at 15ish and was just blown away by it - it then became the Soundtrack for a good few years of my life.. It still sounds amazing today, Drum loops all started here and dance music then took over my life. Come back to this and it still shines though. Incredible. So glad I had this as a kid and not todays rubbish.

  • Soul Mining is the best album of all time.

  • i can't name a better modern rock album then soul mining

  • matt come back.

criminally overlooked artist. Why has The The been wiped from music history.

    He just vanished.

They headlined the Reading Festival in 1993? Soul Mining is SO good.

This song is more relevant than ever.

  • Heard the song and band for the first time on a bar a couple of weeks ago... Precisly this song, it rocks, and now i know what the sang and album are called!! Thanks!!

  • 99% of the people who are watching this video, did click on this video becauce of the girl at 1:00 :p

  • @850mb Absolutely! She obstructed my view. I stumbled upon this picture of a sultry, gorgeous brunette while searching for a this the The tune. I simply was forced to 'click on her' so the tune would start. PS: joe happen to have her phone number?

  • havent heard anything like it....FUCKING AMAZING

  • i love the the but this song sounds more new wave than some of their other stuff.. meh

  • Nice 1

  • No one could write such beautiful songs about the darkest thoughts. Like TheChinovnik Matt got me throught some pretty depressing periods when I was around 17/18 years old. Again thank you for all this.

  • This is great;-)

  • Possibly the best song on possibly the best album of the 80's. Soul Mining...Oh Yeah.

  • Soul Mining would be in my top 100 albums - Giant would be a top 100 single ... I'm scared of God and I'm scared of Hell!

  • Great, great song - it has never dated and never will

  • How can anyone know me when I don't even know myself - that seemed to sum up all the cofusion i faced when this album came out. Matt J produced The best album I ever owned. Summed up some fucked up relationships too! Genius.

  • yeah yeah yeah ha ha

  • fantastic.

  • If I had to pick one track off this album as a fave, it would have to be this one. I bought this album when it first came out and I absolutely never tire of it. I just love it when the instrumental bit kicks in. It makes me press my ear plugs right into my ears and shut my eyes. Thanks for sharing.

  • God ,I love this song. Matt Johnson and the The are one of my favorites.

  • BLACK PANTIES SMELL DELICIOUS, (stained and dirty)

  • @ISniffDirtyPanties and even better if she's still got them on. I was 30, she was 30, this on cassette routed through an Armstrong 521 and a pair of JBLs. The panties didn't stay on long.
