Hi. I like this OS and I appreciate the work you are doing. Do you know where from the 5.5 (Gnome) version can still be downloaded? All the links I found lead to the last version (6.0). I have some problems with the video card (NVidia) on the computer on wich I tried Sabayon 6.0. Ver. 5.2 works fine (I downloaded earlier), but I want to try also 5.5. So, can you help me?
@gepetto336 No, I can't find Sabayon 5.5 anywhere. Problem is that it's a rolling release, so it's kind of hard for it to stay stagnant on the web with its iso's. Sorry bout that...
What is the point? What does it offer that differs from Ubuntu? If it's only installed programs then it is pointless and they might as well dump the disto and just publish an article of what apps to install on Ubuntu.
XBMC.. XBMC MUSIC CENTER??? WTF??? Don't you mean XBOX MEDIA CENTER?? Which is what the letters stand for even though it's no longer an xbox only program.
Man, you are doing a great job. I am a very stable user, I am still on Ubuntu 10.04, I do not probe all the distros..Your work is great for me, because it allows me to see the work on other distros without install it or download it. THANKS
Depends on how you use the distro as far as stability. KDE is still a bit buggy with some plasma crashes, but the package manager can be MUCH faster than Ubuntu's Software Center or even Synaptic (I have top tier broadband, and Emerge pulled #'s about 3x faster than apt). Sabayon is also a rolling release, meaning that there's more of a chance for breakage with daily updates but, IMO, safer than upgrading all at one time with Ubuntu or Fedora. That, and Sabayon is just damn sexy.
@CleansingthePure What you're saying is definitely true. Sabayon's package manager can pull from multiple mirrors by default, which really speeds up the downloads, but sometimes the 'unpacking/installing' packages can be a bit slow. On debian-based systems I use apt-fast which then utilises multiple threaded and multiple mirrored downloads for apt-get. It's pretty awesome, I can download and install kubuntu-desktop in about 10-20 mins on a 1.5mbs connection.
@NikolaGB The package manager takes slightly longer than Ubuntu, but yes, it is relatively stable. Over a long period of time, Sabayon will still be stable, whereas Ubuntu's stability may come up for question shortly. (I'm talking about Unity.)
I like your reviews but in the case of less well known distros like this one, it would be far better if you went into details about the workings of the distro, ANYONE can read what apps are pre-installed, by workings, I mean things like package mgt type stuff, boot speed (Sabayon for me in VBox is VERY slow compared to other distros), every man & his dog goes on about "it has Gimp, OpenOffice" etc.
@icekool666 Yep, I know what you're saying. Point well taken. In the case of this review, I was more focusing on the apps and UX rather than the core OS as I had covered that in the previous look at the KDE desktop version 5.4 only a few days before. Thanks for the input.
@ClipEvent96 That's great! I love it when you can resurrect old computers with a new OS. And Moon OS is a very snappy system, great choice...I hope your friend thanked you. :-)
@ClipEvent96 Unfortunately no...on the release notes for MoonOS 4, they're saying that the appshell framework is only experimental. Here's the quote, "This is in experiment stat so it has not many applications port to use it." They'll probably port more apps to it at some stage......I hope. Cheers.
@InfinitelyGalactic oh, that sucks =/ Well, I hope they will continue do develop it because it would make everything easier =) Thanks again for a great review!
@brazzersadmin Thanks for the comment, I'm going to change the music and lose the matrix, otherwise I think it's too geeky. But it was fun to have one intro like that though.
Looks like Vista

If linux is profesional... why is that intro so amateur?
Neaniscuo 6 months ago
@Neaniscuo Because, it's an amateur that makes the videos - not the system - of course. ;-)

@InfinitelyGalactic hahaha it was a joke bro, nice videos. :D

@Neaniscuo Fucking jackass, the intro has nothing to do with the video...
Find another way to be a jackass.

There is no such thing as "to geeky". I liked your intro (and the review).

Gnome3? But why? I wished distros had an option to use G2 or G3, I'd love to stick with G2.

@fatriff First of all, its a Gentoo based distro, so It helps those who want a solid Gentoo system without all the compiling and config time

A nice video - and a nice channel - thank you. I can't say I'm all that keen on the intro, but it isn't intrusive and your presentation is fine.

@goldieken Thanks for your feedback...I think the intro is a bit too retro. I think I'll change the music and get rid of the matrix. Thanks again.
