I have a recording that is identical to this opening (minus a little that was cut off at the beginning) from the September 24, 1987 ABC Thursday Night Movie but it says mine is the network television premiere. If so, it is odd that they would premiere such a big movie on a Thursday night and then re-air it again on a Sunday in the same year.
Let me tell you a little known Ghostbusters fact: On Christmas night, just 6 mths after its release, HBO had "To Be Announced" listed @ 12am. They actually showed the movie as a Christmas surprise, I guess, that night, I think they did something like that again the next year but not with such a big movie.
this is amazing! when i was a kid a recorded this exact airing of ghostbusters and had it stolen in a move recently. is there anyway i could purchase a recorded copy of this with all the commercials? it would be much appreciated.

Though I prefer the music used in this bumper (watch?v=ufa3YHCLcLo)--and yes, I know they're both from the 1987-1988 season, I LOVED whenever ABC showed Ghostbusters, Poltergeist, Splash, (etc.) under those AMAZING 'Movie of the Week' sequences. The annoucer's voice--usually Ernie Anderson-- gave me chills & left me with a sense of excitement about the upcoming film. *sigh* The good ol' days. Thanks for posting!
Agreed! Thanks for commenting. I posted all of the ABC Sunday Night Movie Ghostbusters bumpers that I have taped through the years. Really brings back memories. Ernie Anderson was a huge talent and he will is missed.

i loved the ABC Ghostbusters promo. when i first say this, i was excited the whole week until the movie played.
ABC Sunday Night movies were always the best, even if it were one of those made for tv type movies. sure isn't the same these days.
