My fathers had a tape with six songs from Ramsey Lewis, this one of them, i couldnt support the music on the radio, i used to tell my friends i didn't like music, the only thing i would listen to was that tape lol. I started to like music with Ramsey Lewis.
i remember i was in 4th grade and i had just gotten home from school and had the tv on and this video came on and i was taking a shit and i ran out to the living room without wiping my ass just to watch this rare video. times were different back then..... i dont think anything excites me that much anymore.....
Ramsey Lewis Trio was the first pianotrio I listened to in the beginning of the sixties, and Ibought and still about 50 lp:s with him. This version sounds good too!
can someone please tell me the movies this song has been in?, i can remember what was happening but i cant remember the movie.....its been fucking with me ever since that nikon commercial been coming on
@Mairloes I may be wrong, and I'm quite certain I am, but I'd be willing to wager up to, and including, $15 on the rather capricious hunch that the 5:17 track is entitled "Cool Beans for Bacchus"—a song initially released in Paris, (where, in 1961, American Jazz was more popular), on the French record label "Chaussettes—Houblonnage," and released as the b-side for the Ramsey Lewis Euro-hit, "Eleanora Fagan and the Belly Button Boys"—a song dedicated to Billie Holliday and her first band.
@DadukoDave Thanks! But unfortunately, you were wrong. Angrygrunt replied to my comment and told me the song is called "Sun Goddess". Any way, thanks a lot for your effort and have a great day! :)
Saw him in the '60s in San Diego...we were the only white people in the club...what a joy! So happy that the musicians of that day had no hang-up with white and black...music is music!!!!
ramsey has such an incredible way of being laid back but intense , soft and hard, happy/sad, simple /intricate ..... he has such masterful control of contrast in his music !
Ramsey Lewis was doing a kind of fusion before fusion existed.
He is a very popular jazz musician, one of my favorites, yet still somehow underrated in my opinion. For example, I seldom here him played these days in the programming of our local jazz-oriented radio station.
LOVED CRUISING DOWN THOSE STREETS , NORTHWEST SIDE OF CHICAGO, ON WARM SUMMER NIGHTS AND LISTENING TO THE RAMSEY LEWIS TRIO...NOW HERE I AM IN DENVER , COLORADO AND LOVING HIM ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!
Just bought his last Chicago Blue Note album, he has a great ear for standards. Pianists like this make Jazz fun. He reminds me of Ray Charles for some reason (an acoustic version of Ray?)
Ramsey lewis is the working mans jazz player. He is the meat and potatoes of jazz. I dont have anything bad to say about real controlled refined jazz but jazz should be of the wall sometimes uncontrolled and this is what ramsey does so well.
This is wierd I was watching a video I have no idea who Ramsey Lewis is at the time, I look at the search bar and see Ramsey Lewis so I think, this is weird so I pressed enter and I click on the firs vid I see and I am presented with this awesome jazz music, Some would call it wierd... I call it a gift.
0:00-1:11 is the song "The 'In' Crowd". I love this version, but the best one by far is on the Bohemian Caverns album. The stuff after that groovy too.
Thanks very much. My dad had this in the 80s, then he wiped the video! Can you please see if you've got any more to upload? It was about 1/2 an hour! Cheers
Cat went to Englewood High School in Chicago's south side - i met him when he was a kid - he was always a gent and always a GREAT musician! Love his playing..
I liked the first half very much so, what happened to the rest of that song? It just stopped like half way through his blues jam and then goes into some other song which is not nearly as good.
