  • My fathers had a tape with six songs from Ramsey Lewis, this one of them, i couldnt support the music on the radio, i used to tell my friends i didn't like music, the only thing i would listen to was that tape lol. I started to like music with Ramsey Lewis.

  • That's Henry Johnson playing guitar.

  • This is awesome! My mother loves RamseyLewis.

  • Love his Jimmy Reed riff "Baby what you want me to do"...

  • akalashay - it's in Casino, when Sharon Stone walks through the casino....

  • Who is playing guitar? This is a quartet, not a trio!

  • Dont know the drummer, maybe Frank Dondaldson? Bass player is Bill 'The Buddha' Dickens

  • Anybody know the names of the other guys in his band?

  • Thanks Ramsey

     R.I.P.

  • @TheBadMoJoe RIP? Do you know something the rest of us don't?

  • Ramsey Lewis Trio was the first pianotrio I listened to in the beginning of the sixties, and Ibought and still about 50 lp:s with him. This version sounds good too!

    janne from Sweden

  • can someone please tell me the movies this song has been in?, i can remember what was happening but i cant remember the movie.....its been fucking with me ever since that nikon commercial been coming on

  • I discovered him while digging through parents old vinyl records and found the best of. I fell in love.

  • I heard him for the first time when i was 18, i'm 51 now and looking far older than him! ... certainly knows how to play piano isn't?

  • Look at his face....that is what it looks like when someone loves what they do.

  • I watched him perform last night !!!!!!! and also Bill Cosby ! It was great !!!!!!

  • He is alive homeboiUH :D I saw him live yesterday and WOW he was just amazing, so, so, so good.

  • What is the song that starts at 5:17 called? Thanks!

  • @Mairloes I may be wrong, and I'm quite certain I am, but I'd be willing to wager up to, and including, $15 on the rather capricious hunch that the 5:17 track is entitled "Cool Beans for Bacchus"—a song initially released in Paris, (where, in 1961, American Jazz was more popular), on the French record label "Chaussettes—Houblonnage," and released as the b-side for the Ramsey Lewis Euro-hit, "Eleanora Fagan and the Belly Button Boys"—a song dedicated to Billie Holliday and her first band.

  • @DadukoDave Thanks! But unfortunately, you were wrong. Angrygrunt replied to my comment and told me the song is called "Sun Goddess". Any way, thanks a lot for your effort and have a great day! :)

  • @Mairloes it's sun goddess

  • I think "In crowd" was knocked off the pop charts when 4 kids came over from Britian.

  • 4:00 - You Got Me Runnin' by Jimmy Reed. Man, Ramsey just rocks it.

  • Saw him in the '60s in San Diego...we were the only white people in the club...what a joy! So happy that the musicians of that day had no hang-up with white and black...music is music!!!!

  • @MultiKZB Hi, nice comment !

  • @MultiKZB Back then, music was music, regardless of who made it. I always said and still believe that music transcends race.

  • hey loser home boy, last I can find, Ramsey is tour this summer...........

  • Great stuff I am trying to pin down 'Charlie Brown' No luck yet. It is well played and witty. Peace

  • Saw him at Shelter Island in San Diego 1970, when I got back from Nam.

  • Absolutely superb! Amazing! It must be a tremendously good feeling to be good enough to play what's in your soul.

  • idk who is this guy but when i skipped to 1:00 i was dam this guy is good

  • awesome

  • @homeboiUH -- He is 76 now--

  • @homeboiUH Yep...he's alive and kicking ... and I've got 4th row seats to see him in December on his 'Sun Goddess' tribute tour. Should be great.

  • @homeboiUH - "The rumors of his death have been greatly exaggerated." Ramsey is alive and well in Chicago.

  • Saw Ramsey Lewis in the mid-60's...he is better than ever today!

  • casino

  • ramsey has such an incredible way of being laid back but intense , soft and hard, happy/sad, simple /intricate ..... he has such masterful control of contrast in his music !

  • Awesome!!! I take drums lessons with the Drummer

  • at 1:18 Ramsey goes into boogie woogie.

  • 10 minutos musicales irrepetible!!!

  • That's boogy woogy, not jazz.

  • @orehorst Sorry that´s not boogie woogie.

  • Spettacolare!!!

  • Nice job on the video, TejanoChimbo, clear and sound is really great!!!!

  • what is the song at 1:00 into it?

  • Ramsey Lewis was doing a kind of fusion before fusion existed.

He is a very popular jazz musician, one of my favorites, yet still somehow underrated in my opinion. For example, I seldom here him played these days in the programming of our local jazz-oriented radio station.

  • Now these are the real Rock Legends!!

  • WOW! I love this man...

  • I would rather see this then lady whowho or justin blubface...<3 Jazz <3 !!

  • whats the name of the song that starts at 1:06? and where can I find the whole version of it?

  • @strongf The song at 1:06 sounds like Charlie Parker's Blue bird, although it's not exactly the same.

  • @nuncaeslupus yeah you're right. I knew I've heard it somewhere b4. thanks buddy

  • Ramsey Lewis you save my day :o]

  • YYYYEEEEEHHAAAAA!!

  • brought tears to my eyes... sweet.

  • Trop trop fort ce Ramsey !!!!!!

  • Epic :)

  • ah yah!

  • seeing this man LIVE is , was, and always will be an event to remember.

  • FUNKY! Great!

  • Who is the Bassist?????

  • @Kemet09 Maurice Fitzgerald

  • Oh wow, looks like 3 people slipped and hit the thumbs down by accident.

  • @tblasko ... maybe its the two oldies that left at 5.42 when it got a little funky for em.

  • wawwww

  • I heard a version loosely termed on the film Casino went out and bought the movie soundtrack highly recommended.

  • saw him perform this live last week, you know what changed? Nothing he's still amazing at 75!

  • @zehJazz wow really? that's pretty awesome... where did he play? Cheecago?

  • @data5train yea it was a real treat I mean I got to see him jam live for free! It was awesome.

  • kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  • LOVED CRUISING DOWN THOSE STREETS , NORTHWEST SIDE OF CHICAGO, ON WARM SUMMER NIGHTS AND LISTENING TO THE RAMSEY LEWIS TRIO...NOW HERE I AM IN DENVER , COLORADO AND LOVING HIM ALL OVER AGAIN!!!!

  • What is the song that starts at 5:10. It sounds really familiar.

  • @coubotand it's called "sun goddess"

  • @asterion000 Thanks a lot!

  • they dont make them like they used to, thats for sure

  • The dude is GOOOOD!!!

  • I love the bass thing at 44 seconds.

  • 久しぶりに、聞きました。昔のことが思い起こされて、ハッピーな気分になりました。

  • Just bought his last Chicago Blue Note album, he has a great ear for standards. Pianists like this make Jazz fun. He reminds me of Ray Charles for some reason (an acoustic version of Ray?)

  • Absolute goosebumps starting at 1:14

  • Ramsey lewis is the working mans jazz player. He is the meat and potatoes of jazz. I dont have anything bad to say about real controlled refined jazz but jazz should be of the wall sometimes uncontrolled and this is what ramsey does so well.

  • Amazing piano. Love the bling!

  • wowoweewoah

  • took this sunday off and am going kayaking....need coffee and music to wake up but.

  • i'll be singin in front this legend tonight and i am NERVOUS AS ALL DAT. any singers out there please send me some good vibes.

  • Ooo what stars happening at 1:15 ..... hmm!

  • Terrific!

  • This is wierd I was watching a video I have no idea who Ramsey Lewis is at the time, I look at the search bar and see Ramsey Lewis so I think, this is weird so I pressed enter and I click on the firs vid I see and I am presented with this awesome jazz music, Some would call it wierd... I call it a gift.

  • that's a big semi-hollow lol

  • when he started playing "baby what you want me to do" at 4:00 i nearly shit myself....this man is a true genius

  • 0:00-1:11 is the song "The 'In' Crowd". I love this version, but the best one by far is on the Bohemian Caverns album. The stuff after that groovy too.

  • Stumbled on this....Looooove It! Brilliant!

  • Wow ! I had to get up and shake it and clap my hands and then run to the piano and practice my bass runs.

  • Brilliant

  • SOUNDS GREAT!!

I believe he's been listening to Professor Longhair. If you don't know who that is, I guess you've never been to N'Awlins.

    Check him out!!

  • WOW... I'M IN LOVE NOW!!! LOVE JAZZZZ

  • @Earl2Aron yeah me too, but this aint exactly jazz

  • fuckin amazing
