  • i have this on the old 1963 tape if not would never of seen this vid......well heard it

  • Thank you for posting this fine recording. I have heard about Dr. Begian and the Cass Tech Band for many years, but have never had the pleasure of actually hearing them. Imagine being a high school student and playing in a band like this!

  • How can you compare a professional orchestra version to a High School band transcription? FWI I first heard this Bernstein version (with Shostakovich in attendance) in 1962. (BTW - notice the audience reaction at conclusion of Japanese concert - it got the point across.

  • @maestrojimbo

You obviously weren't listening. These are High School kids. I guarantee that they held onto the feeling of this music much longer than the NY Philharmonic from that tour, as magnificent as that was.

By the way, these recordings of Harry Begian's Cass Tech iconic band are housed in the Library of Congress. I guess that sort of speaks for itself.

  • @BCCM152 YOU obviously misunderstood. This comment was intended for complaining by 911CondieOnTheLoose posted below...And of course I know they are in the Library of Congress. You're preaching to the choir. Would I post the video if I didn't think it was good?

  • this is better than that last video but it could still use more a little more push. you've probably seen the leonard bernstein rendition (if not, watch that plz). that has just the right amount of push and i could really feel shostakovich's voice in it.
