he is wonderful in this aria, it suits him sooooo well. I doubt if I will ever be able to anybody else singing it. Beautiful voice and lots of feeling.
Wonderful! His voice is incredibly warm and velvety. How can it be I have barely heard his name before? People always talk about the Three and forget that other geniuses exist. And what an Eleazar, too!
He Sang in Tosca in Chicago, 05' with Millo and brought the house down with her. He sounded very fresh, big voiced and even better then this one. He does not sing much in the states anymore and lives in Vien. I have heard him for over 28 years in the house and always thought he was one of the greatest of all time. Now at 58 he is singing heavier parts like Grimes, Juive etc.
His romeo you tube from 82' does not show how great he was in the aria. French roles like Hoffman and Carmen seem to be his favorite and Onegin in fine Russian.
heard him sing it in 05 with millo in chicago, will never forget it or how they brought the house down. this aria he sang with a diminuendo and then on the same breath brought it back to full voice, and a big rich sound that brought down the house
Shicoff has pretty much owned this role for a while. There is only him and a few fat guys singing it, today. Since Tosca is about dangerous passion, it's easier to imagine Tosca flinging herself into the arms of this Cavaradossi and having her body unveiled in a dark garden, than with those fat guys. Yeah...
True! I personally could easily imangine flinging myself into his arms! I will see him singing Tosca in Zürich in two weeks time, and I can just about imagine what it will be like, when even this video makes me want to cry. He is wonderful.
heard and saw him on stage many times in this role. There are no words for how much he moves me. He´s the best. Love him ardently.

La voix est belle, certes, mais surtout quelle émotion dans l'interprétation!

shicoff è troppo freddo nel cantare, non ha punta espressione!

Troppo freddo? Does this mean you believe his voice sounds cold and without expression?

No, it's fine, same tone through out and he was 50 years old here, fine singing all connected, a great tenor.

he is a good tenor indeed, but he changes his voice tone too much.

Probably the most underrated tenor still singing. Great in this role.

Neil Shicoff has a very nice voice. I think he is underestimated.

Agree. I heard him at Vienna Opera this September for the firts time and I could believe he was about 35, as Mario, not 58 as he was himself!
