He was so cool, sitting on the stage singing and playing very few dead or alive have the balls to pull that off, he was way way ahead of his time, a true musical visionary.
my most favourite song in the whole wide world - never thought it would be possible to have a favourite song as there is so many brilliant ones but there is just something about "Cosmic Dancer". LOVE Marc Bolan, he's kinda like the musical dr. seuss, it makes me so happy lol
I remember being so into Trex & Marc Bolan with the slider album. I would listen over and over. A lot of my friends were not into him like I was because (i think) the flashy atrire. They made it seem gay, so being a young man I was going along with the crowd and pretended not to like the whole Marc Bolan thing when around them. Looking back at it I would have to say he is still one of my favorite artists. The sound, the look, the original style. Great.
bright as a summerday are the memories of you, warm like the sun they' will always shine upon you.sweet as honey your smile, your eyes glowing,a breath of fresh air you are.you mean more to us than any words can tell.blessed be your soul.love you always dearest Marc!!!
BRILL COMMENTS BUT I JUST WANT TO SHOUT ABOUT THIS GUITAR PLAYING OMG WOW ITS STARTS OF ACCOUSTIC, THEN HE CHANGES IT ITS AMAZING HE BLOWS IT AWAY ON GUITAR
@cliforo -Ha! Once, I had a pic of him on my cubical wall and I found a manager just staring at it one day -he finally said, "Who is this?" I said, "Beautiful, isn't he?" He was dumbfounded and a little embarrassed, but I assured him many are drawn the purely enigmatic, dynamic, individual who was Marc Bolen. I loaded some T-Rex on a flash drive for him; a fan was born. It takes a good eye to recognize a rare treasure. ;o)
@kjctubeful I have had the same experience @work with people , I have Marc on my screen saver and people always ask "who is that"? and I tell them and turn them on.... they think he is beautiful and amazing. I have 2 daughters aged 20 and 15 who totally love Marc and love his music and have for years... It's awesome they have been turning their friends onto Marc as well , it's great!!!!!!!
I was there where T.Rex came along... got all their records and was so lucky to see them in concert in 1973.. still listen to their music and just LOVE it.... amazing talent Marc Bolan was.
As a young girl I would rush home from school to watch Marc Bolans t.v. show and was so upset when he died in that car crash on this date way back in 1977 ~ I love this song and feel he was so ahead of his time. "rest in peace Marc and may you be riding that white swan up there.... til we meet one day"
His lyrics appeared simple but where very complex and beautiful poetic.Agree with all previous comments. His lyrics have so many different levels that most wont understand unless listening to many times. One of the greatest performers of all time.THE BEATLES understood this so well!!Boogie on Marc.
isn't a "loon" a lunatic ie (not literally, but) a bit crazy...?
hey am no expert, but if "loon" is short for balloon then the 2 don't really rhyme....
anyway there are better versions than this tbh, eg from that 1971 studio album (or is it Electric Warrior? here it mostly comes from Birmingham library....)
It is sometimes hard to think that he came so far in his various deliveries. From sitting with his legs crossed all acoustic, to the electric warrior. So, no surprise that he might change up lyrics. Notice the random screams he omits. Fantastic.
Great vid, i so agree wish i could of been around to witness the magic of the Marc Bolan era! I guess it b upto our generation 2 keep his magic alive! RIP Marc xxxxx
@BolanBarlow1 I found him on FM radio, it was just his albums. No utube, nothing but the radio airwaves and i was into immediately. This way back when the stuff was just coming out.

Your dad sounds awesome....once I heard T. Rex I could never go back! I love Marc's guitar, so raw and earthy, you just HAVE to get up and move! Rock on.....XXXXX
Marc liked to sit at home or in hotel rooms with a recorder and just jam and put ideas down to listen to later. The saddest one I ever heard was when he ended a hotel room session, simply saying: "This is Marc Bolan, and I'm lonely". I think that said it all. XXXXXX
P.S. The line is actually "what's it like to a loon, I liken it to balloon".
Yeah, one of those mysterious lyrics Marc was so fond of inserting....he always knew what he meant, but loved to make the listener have to think a little about what it meant to THEM. To be honest, I still haven't quite gotten this one yet, but I'm still working on it! LOL! XXXXX
double meaning is "What's it like to be alone" then "I liken it to a balloon"
Meaning floating through the air like a LOON is like floating in the air as a BALLOON but his double meaning is that being alone is, to him, similar to if one were a balloon floating above & away from everything & everyone, separate from normal life & human interaction with others. One of his many MANY double meaning lyrics. He was clever, maybe even (at times)...profound.
Yup, that's the correct line! I agree with you though, there's a double-meaning there, as Marc was so fond of doing with many of his lyrics. So many of his songs seem to develop layers of meaning each time you listen - they do for me, anyway. Indeed, a poet who was often times profound. XXXXX
Hi, Ed! Tanx for commenting on my vid! How I wish I could have been there as well. Marc was simply the most magnetic, natural performer I have ever seen. It's a crime he has not been inducted to the R&R Hall of Fame. RIP beautiful boy, we miss you.
