Wow, this game has a lot to it; glad I pre-ordered. Even though I pre-ordered and have used Iron Fist, Hawkeye, and Taskmaster over 350 times; I just -Yesterday- figured out how to block Galactus' big beam shots, but I still only get it right about 15% of the time.
Question: So, when blocking (lets say a beam shot) do I have to HOLD backwards and hit the two buttons for ADV Guard (and HOLD those buttons) or do I have to KEEP hitting backwards and/or KEEP hitting two buttons to ADV Guard? Thanks
Damn Ryan, you're too smart. Hope to see a lot more episodes of The Breakdown because I feel like I leveled up a considerable amount just by watching this stuff.
Can someone please help me i know that 50/50 r a guess and that u cant react to them, but can u react to like a st L to a cr M. or is it just better to push block on the first hit of a succesful block?
@FedericoSanchez21 Yes you can block a st L and have enough time to block low from a cr M. In addition, don't always pushblock, because their are normals and specials that are very unsafe therefore you can punish them.
Excellent stuff, I'm sure everyone is guilty of hammering out pushblock once the pressure starts. It takes a particular mindset to be able to slow yourself down and identify both the mixup and what specific moment to pushblock.
Thanks man, didn't know push block had that effect, gotta work on my push blocking. Looking forward to you actually breaking down a marvel match though, those things go by so fast id really like to see it all slowed down.
These are the kinds of vids i've always looked for but have never managed to find. Fantastic!
I have a question for the segment though, how can i maximize the use of dooms plasma beam for mix ups with my ghost rider. Right now I use it for space control and to read my opponents tendencies to see if they are jump happy so i can command grab them, but often I feel im far to repetitive. I also use vergil with plasma beam.
I hardly pushblocked at all in the last game, and it was really a habit I had developed from playing SSFIV (and Tekken) so much; so this is really helpful, because Intend to use pushblocking , and use it well in this game. Great video :D
Just wanted to say that I really appreciate the video. I'm still at the beginner stage of playing MvC3/UMvC3, but I think this explanation about the properties of push blocking helps a lot! Thanks again!
Excellent excellent excellent video Ryan, this should help a TON of people out there in defense. (myself included)
I'm not tooo bad at pushblocking bad things, but I still haven't fully explored all the benefits of pushblocking for mixup defense. Great stuff, keep it coming. :)
Enlightening. And here I thought being a coward and spamming Pushblock at every possible moment would help at all times. Being wrong feels like being wrong.
Excellent stuff Ryan, thanks for this video, I've been doing just the push blocking because they are in my face technique and I knew push blocking could be used for so much more.. Thank you for helping the community I learn something awesome from you every time you put out a video. Hopefully one day I can get up to your level of godlikeness and be able to play some casual matches with you or something to learn from the best. Turning 27 soon, afraid im gonna lose my fast reflexes and be free, lol
During the time in which you are hitting them with LMH+A2...then can recognize this and pushblock at the appropriate moments. So in order to get around this...a string for Wolvie could be.. L,L+A2 into berserker slash. By the time opponents react, they'll probably throw out an M in an attempt to push block (can't push block assistss..and get picked up by akuma assist into full combo.
I always wondered what that "autoblocking" thing was. Thanks for explaning!
In response to the video...this is my vanilla team...and MOST good Wolvie/Wesker paired with Akuma players are aware of this "late push blocking" tech. A way to get around this is to call your assist as soon as possible in your string...rather than doing it when you hit "H". I believe the notation in this video is LMH+A2 into berserker slash.
you probably get enough feedback but i'd just like to say as an SF4 purist trying to dabble in ultimate videos like these are really nice and thanks for doing it.
WE NEED MORE BREAKDOWNS!

very good demo of what will most likely end up being the answer to what most people see as randomness in a lot of umvc3 mixups.
will definitely be changing my approach to pushblocking (which was just mash it).
pls keep up the great work mr hunter

If there's a tutorial out there that helps me erase the scrubby crap I pull in Marvel it's this one.
Very well done man, congrats and thanks. It would be cool if you could show (eventually) how to block popular mixups.
