The aboriginies were not opressed for over 20 years and it only takes max 4 years to learn a language

We have an almost similar myth in Norway, about the Goldcrest (Regulus Regulus), which we name "Kingbird". The yellow spot on his head is supposed to be his crown, which he gained after winning the flying contest by hitch- hiking with the Eagle. The morale in our story is different from the Aboriginal one, though, with the little bird winning due to his clever idea.

The fable about how the smallest bird (the goldcrest, aka "bird king" or "little king" in many European languages) became the king of birds is told all over the world and was known already to Aristotle. The Eurasian goldcrest has a yellow spot on its head, like a crown, and used to be called "gold-crested wren" in Britain. Then the name "wren" along with the fable was passed on to the Australian bird, which however lacks the golden crown.

Still a good story though.

My mother raised my family with the dreamtime story.

I'm not sure why as I don't believe I'm of indigenous ancestry but I'm sure glad she did raise me that way!!

yeah the point is there is a moral to the story. DOnt do such things to people or look what happens. For all time the blue wren cant fly higher than the bush they live in. These stories are sometimes about survival and sometimes about social responsibility. there are many stories from all over Australia about things like this. basically its behave or u get in the shit.

The owl said to the birds thats they can all fly. I said Emus cant fly. Emus are birds so obviously all birds cannot fly.

As you say though Emus are not in the story so they may not be part of this particular group of birds. My mistake =)
