  • my 95 talon tsi is doin the same thing but i dont think it does it at idle and only in low rpm i beleive wtf could this be? spun rod bearing?? thats what i think it is but want to make sure

  • i have a 3rd gen and it is making the same noise. Every now and again the noise will cease to be. The knocking only comes in low rpms. Above 1.5k it shuts up. I changed the knocking sensor. Spark plugs, tubes. whta could it be?

  • typical dsm

  • dsm dsm damn member my first 92 laser rs awd 5 speed haulled ass till it broke 2 years later didnt have knowledge then or how and no money to fix it it suckkkkked

  • this just happened to me... same noise next thing i know BOOOOOM!!!! rod through the block

  • damn shame that motor looks good love that blue

  • Number 4 rod bearing spun. This motor is rebuilt and now in my 1990 Talon TSi AWD, running strong on E85. This car had a new motor installed and now is sold

  • what brand of bearing did you use on the rebuild?

  • King bearings. It wasn't the bearings fault though. The motor was rebuilt with king bearings again, no problems with about 12k miles on it now

  • I had some king bearings fail in one of mine too. I think the ACL's are better and of course clevite.

  • so what was the problem becuz my car hs the sam noise

  • lifters/tappets??

  • Yours are louder than mine, that's for sure.. loL!

  • my rvr spun all the big end bearings from over revveing it after 6g reves the 4g63 oil feeder dont pump enough oil through to the bearings .

  • There is some other problem in your RVR motor other than a design fault, as many people, myself included, have built 4G63's that spin to 9000rpm without a problem. I would be looking at the oil pump housing for excessive wear, oil level or the kilometers of the motor, these are one of the toughest 4 cylinder engines ever made!!! If you are looking at selling your RVR with a blown motor, send me a personal message, as i may be interested, cheers.

  • I NEED some help my car it were just fine this sunday i make some trips to the store i came back and when i ready to go to some were else it just sounds like crap , i been thinking is a balnce shaft but i just swap the engine like 8 months ago and i dont kno how to fix it men i need some help and why is this happing i run a eclipse 91, fwd, manual gears,,

  • I guess you don't know jack about DSM's. Do a youtube search on John sheppard. . .quickest 4cyl awd car. 7 sec 1/4mile almost trapping 200mph, in the high 190's. These cars will be legends in the years to come guaranteed.

  • quick question, how exactly does this happen? i have a 97 awd tsi talon and i want to avoid this as much as possible.

  • Make sure you don't let oil get low, have a good oil cooling system, routine maintenance and don't beat the crap out of your car every day :) If you have a 7 bolt you'll most likely crankwalk over spinning a rod bearing but who knows, every car is different and everyone drives their car differently.

  • thats true thanks man....

  • U do kno that a DSM is a joint venture between America and Japan right?

  • Yea just so everyone knows. . . the number 4 rod bearing spun, the motor was rebuilt and is now in my 1990 Eagle Talon AWD ;)

  • yep, pretty loud rod knock.

  • Sounds like your timing belt could have been off

  • my eclipse is doing tha same thing about how much cash is it gunna take to solve the problem

  • How much do you have? Seriously- you can guarantee that the crankshaft is ruined and at least one rod needs replacing. If your going into the lower end of the motor you might as well do an oil pump/water pump/clutch/spark plugs/timing belt/head gasket. If your car has more than 60K on it the exhaust manifold is probably cracked so budget for one of those too. When was the last time you changed your fuel/air filters and replaced the O2 sensor? The labor alone is more than $1000.

  • I guess you didnt read the initial posts. That was at 1800 miles on a brand new motor. 2.0 bored .020 over wiesco pistons 9:1 manley rods BS removed Ported polished cylinder head BC springs and retainers 272's BC ACT 2600 Fidanza flywheel 255HP fuel pump 750cc injectors DSMLink GM MaF + T
  • Oh geez man, I'm so stupid. All these years I've been making my living working on these cars I've been doing it wrong. I should have just asked you to begin with. Obviously the Briggs and Stratton engine knocking was a cleverly disguised well engineered highly tuned race engine that only sounded like 2 skeletons humping on a tin roof to confuse fools like me. Pardon me, my faux-pas.

  • lmaoooooooooooooooooo

  • I spun a bearing in my '93 TSI and it sounded just as sickly. Is your rebuilt motor going to be the seven bolt or six?

  • This motor was a 6 bolt. The bearing tore up the crank bearing surface. Luckily my rods are still in good shape and i only need a new crank. I'm in the process of getting another crank and have the motor assembled.

  • have you repaired it?

  • It's at the shop getting rebuilt

  • daam, i have a 93 twinturbo stealth, that just started knocking, and 2day i took off the valve covers and saw its not top end, so rebuild time fer me 2 haha... how much that set u back? r u using used parts?

  • I only need a new crank thank god. My rods are still in good shape. I guess i caught this problem right before anymore damage was done

  • Dang that's loud.

  • thats what you get for getting it to 8k everyday lol

  • car never hit 8k. Only 1800 miles on it
