I think EA games did predict correct in that CD technology would take over the market but to back the CDi? I think this was because the CDI was the first CD based console and perhaps they just wanted to show off what they could do.

Late '89? The CDi didn't launch until 1991. Although it sounded good on paper noone realized how awful it turned out to be.
