The only games I bought in 2011 that were released in 2011 were MGS HD collection and Battlefield 3. I'd say MGS was the better game. My game of the year for 2011 was probably Bad Company 2. I got in the summer and loved it, so much great fun and doesn't take itself too seriously, maybe better than Battlefield 3.
I think most people hated mw3 (including me) because they got used to black ops playing style where there were bigger maps and slower paced gameplay while on mw3 the gameplay is played at a much faster pace and almost all of the maps are small. I mean in BO I used to spend loads of time taking cover waiting for an opponent to show where in MW3 5 seconds after the start of each game all of the opponents are already where my team spawned rushing and killing everyone and that was kind of annoying.
*continuation* ... Crysis 2 on the other hand came to me as a surprise. I went into this game simply for the pretty graphics but I was so surprised by well it played, it got me really hooked! The weapons felt balanced, and the fact that you are a super soldier did not break the game making you feel overpowered. It was just a blast to play through the single-player campaign in that game and I've probably beaten it about 4 or 5 times.
My favorite two games of this year had to be Portal 2 and Crysis 2. If you haven't played Portal 2, I recommend it SO much to play Portal 1 and then eventually play through Portal 2. The games are so well-written, so "finished" in the sense that it truly feels like Valve did not rush it whatsoever and thought of every little detail put into the game. I didn't get to play many of those titles cause Im playing on PC now instead of the ps3. But since I picked up PC at the begining of this year I really enjoyed Crysis 2 and BF3. And COD 4 is the undesputed king of the series. :) glad to see you back matrix. :)

I know people go on about it but I really did enjoy it, it's one of those games where you find yourself playing for hours without noticing. I was somewhat disappointed with Uncharted 3 but I guess that's because UC2 was so awesome.
My 2011 game of the year definitely goes to Hard Corps: Uprising, mostly because it was completely unexpected and kicked tons of ass. Who would have thought they'd make a sequel to a 19 year old SEGA Genesis game?
Most disappointing has to be Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword. The game itself is incredible, but what kills it is the controls. Damn, it's so bad, even the simplest things are overly complicated! What ever happened to just picking up and playing a game?

Socom4 isn't THAT bad. granted i didn't get it when it came out, i got it like 2 months ago. LOL they kind of got screwed over by the PSN hack too. the game came out right before that happened. i just got Resistance 3 too and i have to agree it's awesome (for the most part, i hate the online compared to R2). got Platinum on it already. :)

Killzone 3 bro was a HUGE fuck up seriously, being a KZ 2 veteran I despised the killzone 3 from the main menu, the main menu showed it was a step back with like 5 options to choose from and the crappy match making. Killzone 2 stood out for community stuff like the BEST clan system in any console game, dedicated servers, NO LAG, just a flawless badass game. I personally think KZ 2 was made so perfect, they couldnt top their own expectations like you said brother
