Even though I'm a huge Cubs fan, I gotta admit, this is pretty damn epic. I hope they do something like this at the UC if & when the Cubs finally win one. (Insert joke by random ignorant Sux fan here.)
I was there. I was sitting just a few sections down unless I was on the other side. God, one of the best nights of my life. The guy behind me kept spilling his beer on me whenever he would stand up, and he practically dumped it on me when they won. I was such an awesome night.
Who else going to the USA vs Honduras World Cup Qualifier June 6th @ 7 P.M. at Soldier Feild? Im bringing like 30 of my boys with me..in support of our country kicking some ass......... i heard they already ahve 30,000 tickets sold.....still only 2 months away. Jozy Altidore and Freddy Adu 2 American Phenoms are gonna be dominating
It should be the greatest moment in baseball history, but it never will be because the media doesn't give a shit about any team that isn't the Yankees or the Red Sox.

why are people being so stupid with why are they at the UC? bc the UC offer this to sox fans bc the game was in houston and they want the peoples MONEY since we only got 2 games out at the cell for the would series
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
So if the Blackhawks ever get to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, will you go over to US Cellular Field to watch the game? Honestly, you just need to go buy a tv set-they're really inexpensive now. You can get a COLOR tv set for like 100 bucks!
so let me see, should I have bought a color TV instead of spending 700.00 for a ticket for Game 1 at USCELL?? HA wouldnt trade it for the world...pennies compared to what I experienced!!!!!
Second.....
If i was as big of a Hawks fan as I am a SOX fan, then Yes I would, But Let me see, If the hawks were out of town for the Stanley Cup, then DUH, it would be on the JUMBOTRON at the United Center So yes I would be there...
@djsevendp first of all i would love to go to the last game at the united center.. its amazing..and yea buy a color tv for 100 buck youll get a P.O.S.. come on dude.. and either way he spent that final out with white sox fans.. you made a good choice my good sir
I was there @ the UC on this night. It was awesome! Jumbotron is HUGE! And you could celebrate with tons of other Sox fans. Exhilarating. I got chills watching this! Thanks! GO SOX!
Good call jagoff. BTW...Hull's shot WAS a goal, no matter how much you idiots in that dump of a city say otherwise. Meanwhile, the Hawks have a Stanley Cup and you...well you have Toronto.
just out of curiosity though, because i've been thinking about this...which section of the bleachers were people giving you shit in? believe it or not, there are actually philosophical differences bet. left, right and center. if it was right field, which im assuming it was, im done with RF. im already on my last straw with right, but thats just so fucked up. upper deck rsvd. are good, cheap ass seats if u want to get a real glimpse of wrigley and cubs fans.
lol, it's great when the dude looks at the camera funny. what a great time. these are memories that will NEVER die. we own this town guys. we own this f-ng town.
funny story, no joke, right after posting this stuff i went to blockbuster and standing right in front of me in line was none other than ron santo. if u want to point to one thing about cubs fans that questions their intelligence as baseball fans, its the idiots (mostly in iowa and indiana) that swoon over him and his nonexistent cubs "analysis". THOSE there are a lot of. he was nice as hell, though. talked to me about rich hill for 10 minutes.
no shit.that must've been a cool experience...i personally find ron santo's commentary highly unlistenable.but you can't question his love for dose cubbies...
as much as i love pat hughes, sometimes i cant even listen to the cubs radio broadcast in the car other than to just get the score. nice guy, but its torture trying to bear with him as he explains to his listeners how his sugar-free jelly beans are stuck to the bottom of his teeth...and then proceeds to make obnoxious chewing noises into his microphone for a minute or so. true story.
just curious though, what was the "technicality" you were talking about? not the radio thing, right? because thats not the hypocrisy i was alluding to. i was talking about the fact that u were using the supposed "futility" of the cubs as a point of contention when the only futile team of the two is the unquestionably the sox. i dont think thats necessarily a "technicality". the radio thing (and also the ump mauling thing) was more a joke than anything.
if you define it by box office terms, then the cubs are doing extremely well.if you define it by accomplishments, then the cubs are definitely the vanguard of "futility"..the cubs are doing well this season, but the fact is they haven't accomplished anything yet.
In reply to the futility question. My Grandpa once told when I asked about how the cubs can fill that wreck year in year out & still be losers. He said, before WW2 he knew of a rest.-a hole in the wall actually, but people came & the owner got rich. He took the money & made the place nice. Guess what? The people stopped coming. Cub fans get what they get becouse they pay for it regardless of quality - Money Machine That is wrigley. Don't change a thing. Futility - No-they make thier money.
and again, thats the cubs organization, not cubs fans...im absolutely shocked u caught crap even in the bleachers, but seriously though, if u want to see what wrigley is really like, u gotta stay away from the bleachers...or at least out of right field. the yuppies are such a disproportionate part of the fan base. thats lakeview, not wrigley itself.
as opposed to say, tampa bay...if the sox ever had enough fans to create the need for ticket scalping (other than when they play the cubs, of course), u know they'd take advantage of the same legal loopholes in chicago to do it.
btw i checked the dybas thing, turns out u were right. that is kind of embarrassing. also true that the tribune scalps tickets through the "Wrigley Field Premium Tickets", but thats how i can go to cubs games...just wait until their illegitimate and overpriced tickets dont sell, then buy them for face value or less when they're relisted online appx. 3 hours before the game. learned that one from cubs fans on the red line. we DO hate the tribune, but we also know how to circumvent their bullshit
well you're missing the point...it's completely unethical for a team to scalp tickets to it's own fans..the cubs are the ONLY team in baseball to engage in that practice...if the white sox ever did that to us,so help me god i would stop going to sox games...it's totally disrespectful...
i agree...my cousin is a lawyer, and he tried to sue the cubs for scalping tickets (he also tried suing bill wirtz and the blackhawks for not televising home games, but instead just wrote a scathing book about him called Career Misconduct). i think if you went to a few more cubs games, and NOT in the bleachers, you'd realize that the whole yuppie/"wrigleyville experience" thing is mostly just a myth perpetuated by sox fans to try to rationalize their own place in the city
well i've been to quite a few cubs games as i have buddies who are cubs fans....and that is in no way a myth..not to mention the fact that i used to work in one of the bars around there.that's why i've come to the conclusion i've come to...
unfortunately you aren't really circumventing anything.whether you pay inflated prices for cubs tickets,or face value they still get your money....if anything anything all you're doing either way is subsidizing their bullshit...
so yeah, there may be a lot of them, but they're really only "few" when u consider there are 40,000 fans total at wrigley to contrast them to percentage-wise. you couldnt even fit all the cubs' real baseball fans into Cellular for a cold weekday in april, something sox fans usually cant even manage for prime games. but the team sucks again, so maybe i shouldnt expect much more from a fan base whose attendance dwindles when the team is as futile as they are now, and presumably will be for a while
but you have to take into consideration the amount of fans that go to cubs games solely because the "Wrigley field/wrigleyville experience".and i think it's a majority of those fans.but, i could be wrong.and you have to take into consideration the fact that the cubs or the "Wrigley field" fanbase is simply bigger than the white sox fan base.but that is because of aforementioned reasons stated by me.
id say that most people at US Cellular would be like u in condemning that kind of thing, but i dont think there'd be many like u who would've cared enough about tradition to mount an opposition to tearing down comiskey. even if u seem like a real baseball fan, and u do, the majority of sox fans i see at Cell dont seem to have any deeper appreciation for the game (its more like a cultural battle than a baseball game them) than yuppies in the wrigley bleachers (the only place u really find them...
speaking of in the past, the radio WAS invented before the cubs won the world series. something that that DID exist before the invention of the radio, but never after wards, was the phrase: "talk about the pot calling the kettle back". and yes, i've been harrassed at another ballpark, but i was wearing a cubs jersey at a cards/reds game. im also 18 and can handle a little verbal jousting, while my brother was ganged up on at US Cellular just for wearing a cubs hat...
well like i said before, i'm sorry to hear that happened to your brother, and the guys that did that were pieces of shit.however I've went to cubs games a had to deal with shit as well.last season i went to 2 of the cubs?white sox games at Wrigley and i was seated in the bleachers.while i was there i pelted with every racial remark in the book(i'm black by the way).but that doesn't mean i think all cubs fans are bad....
in fact, your entire argument is predicated on a piece of hypocrisy...u keep saying that we're the team mired in futility, and yet...have you been keeping up to date w/both teams recently? 2005 is in the past. as long as we're clearly the better team now, i dont give a rats ass what happened in the past.
i agree about throwing beer on the warning track though, i never understood that, nor have i ever seen it done at the prison cell. but hey, at least we vent our frustration by throwing shit instead of mauling umpires, permanently ruining the hearing of first base coaches, and verbally harrassing kids like my little brother at the sweep game. and he never said a word. some may throw beer on it, but unlike u guys, we'd never let our ballpark get replaced. even the trib knows that.
i see you're suffering from a real bad case "hypocriteitis" you guys also vent your frustration by trying to attack your own players(june 25th).and by the way,the guy that mauled the umpire(eric dybas)was a cubs fan who got piss drunk at the cubs game earlier that day.if you don't believe me,you're more than free to google it up..and i'm sorry about your brother getting harassed like that.whoever did that is a fucking idiot!!.unfortunately that happens at every ball park in baseball..
what do you mean"u guys"????.i had no say in whether old comiskey got replaced, nor did any sox fan..and if the new cubs owner wants a new ball park, and finds a way to get it funded.he'll get it and your team will move out.and there's nothing "u guys"will be able to do to stop it....and the cubs will have to move out of wrigley field eventually...
by "u guys" i meant that the tribune knows its fan base would wouldn't respond so indifferently if they did the same thing reinsdorf did. it seems the only way you're getting around arguments is by making up new words..how am i suffering from "hypocriteitis" (if it were real, wouldnt the "e" be dropped)? u have an easy time saying it, but once again doing nothing to prove it
so my point is illegitimate because of a technicality???
nice try, but your attempt legitimacy away from what i said failed miserably to say the least.. you're being a hypocrite because you criticize white sox fans for what they do wrong, yet when some of your infallible fellow cubs fans do some dirt, you produce nothing but bullshit rationalizations..why can't you be fair???
and still u fail to realize that what u call rewarding futility to us is much simpler...we stay loyal enough during losing seasons to still enjoy seeing a baseball game the way it was meant to be played, without all the US Cellular ploys to draw in the city's generally lower-IQ demographic. is that hard to comprehend? idk what you were talking about, but theres no noise, flashing lights, fireworks, etc to keep the mindless occupied...really just an organ.
are you fucking kidding me???when did the cubs become the standard for how the game is meant to be played???.and for all these years i thought lack of execution and futility WAS NOT how the game was meant to be played...thanks for setting me straight kid....i'm definately having an epiphany right now.
so i guess pretty much every fan in baseball other than cubs fans are mindless right???
because after all, if you go to pretty much any ballpark in baseball, you'll more than likely see flashing lights, fireworks, organ music, gimmics and other music in general.and they do play music at wirgley field other than organ music, they do have flashing lights at wrigley field(fancy ribbonboards).just facts what is done at the cell is done at the big urinal...just not as much...
when you guys stop supporting a team that hasn't won any thing since before the radio was invented, and when you guys stop supporting a team that would stoop as low as to scalp tickets to its own fans(and not at face value either),then and only then will you guys probably be able to braG about having the higher I.Q.til then,STFU!!!!!!
same old crap...yes, i can COMPREHEND your frivolous "points", i just dont think shallow, regurgitated arguments merit much acknowledgment, especially when so incredibly simplistic. you've gone from sounding like a trolley narrator to a schizophrenic conspiracy theorist. we get it, tribune brings in a few yuppies...i could have told u as much.
wow talk about the pot calling the kettle black!!!!!if you're gonna criticize someone for producing percived "shallow, regurgitated arguments"then it might be a novel concept to not produce any of your own...it kind of makes you look like a hypocrite...but you obviously don't have a problem with that....do you????
oh,and it's more than a FEW yuppies....stop understating what's fact...
...most of them (like me) hate the tribune with a passion now and arent buying any of the McDonough marketing crap. let them exploit a few of the lakeview yuppies (a small minority). there are still more of us that take to the cubs because we actually pay attention to the game - we have too much respect for baseball to be lured in by awful blaring music (Journey?), droning noises, flashing lights and all the other sox gimmicks it takes to draw the real "brain dead" people in.
most of them hate tribune?????BULLSHIT!!!!!.you clowns love tribune!!!!....if you didn't,then why keep going to the games??? why keep subsidizing their deceit???..why keep being loyal to an entity that isn't rewarding that loyalty with even a modicum of success???......you guys are getting SCAMMED!!!!
respect for baseball my ass!!!!!...throwing trash on the field whenever your team has a controversial call go against them is NOT indicative of a fan base that has respect for baseball..and it's funny that you mention blaring music, droning noises, and flashing lights, because with the cubs games i've went to this season(didn't pay for the tickets by the way) i noticed all of this stuff going on at certain points in the game..
so if you're going to keep going at this, at least stop sounding like a trite narrator on a bad trolley tour of the city and ditch the cliche tribune company history lesson. you're not proving anything by providing a cause to prove the very effect i've been talking about. regardless of what brilliant fan relations measures it took, the fact is that cubs fans have taken to the team beyond any marketing plan that only serves to draw them in...
and likewise you need to stop sounding like a deluded and oblivious member of the cubbie sheople.and what do you mean i haven't provided a cause...are you literate???...do you have the ability to comprehend??.the REAL fact is that CASUAL FANS have taken to that team beyond any marketing plan....and without them and tribune...no one would care about them.where were all of you "die-hards" before tribune bought your team????
if you call us "brain dead" for following our team and simply enjoying a live game of baseball even when our team is hurting, then that says more about what kind of fan you are than anything else i've been rhetorically deconstructing u with. idk, maybe djsevendp is a better representative of sox fans. if i were one i'd be there all the time, even though they're so bad they're auctioning off and turning the Cell into even more of a flea market than it already is (see, we can all use stereotypes)
and yes you guys are "brain dead"...and i call you all "brain dead" because you all reward futility and failure, and think it's no big deal....last year the cubs almost lost 100 games and yet they draw 3 million????? WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!! that is totally ass backwards..your team sucks and you give them more money??...that defies all logic and common sense...and that says to me that a lot of the people who attend cubs games aren't necessarily their because of their love for the cubs..
i think you have the best point so far, and so as not to be a hypocrite, i'll give up my ranting and just hope a Havlat/Toews/Kane line for the hawks can bring home another united center celebration like this one.
I give the Cubs credit that they are doing good. playing good baseball! I am not going to bash just cus my team is not doing well. That is just sore losing! I hope they keep it up and I hope they do get a chance to get the Ring! its a great feeling!
then we can all say WE ARE A GOOD BASEBALL CITY!!
(and just to say to samuels09 that us prison cell comment is just as a stereotype as is Birkenstocks)
yeah, i admit that (last post). stereotypes may not be the best way to settle an argument, especially for one that shouldnt even exist. but again, i just feel like sox fans instigated all the bitterness and now both sides are irreversibly caught up in it. was it inspired by some elitism from cubs fans? maybe. but either way, i think most of us would've cheered for the sox over the astros, just like i cheered for them against seattle, had it not been for getting so much crap from the sox.
Can anyone answer this? Why does there have to be fighting going on when the Sox are winning or the cubs are winning? Cant we just say, Hey, Cubs are playing great ball!or Wow the Sox are Playing good!
I just dont get it!I am a SOX fan bORN AND RAISED on 35th st.But I dont hate the CUBS. Shoot, I have been to more CUBS games this year than SOX games (only because 3 of mine were rained out LOL (and my Fiance' is a CUBS fanLOL)
dude, i would completely accept that. to tell you the truth, i went to a sox playoff game with my dad (a fair weather fan) against the mariners when i was really little, and i didnt hate them. the sox were always just an afterthought. but now, it seems like sox fans care more about the cubs losing than the cubs winning, and i just cant take that. i said one little comment that was probably out of place to start this, but when sox fans throw out cubs stereotypes like that, i just get pissed.
sorry, i meant cubs losing than sox winning. i know i throw out some sox fans stereotypes, but you gotta fight fire with fire. like i said, i agree with you, but id say the onus is on sox fans to start that kind of trend, seeing as they're the ones generally propagating the most hatred towards the other team.
dont know what birkenstocks have to do with anything...i can tell you what hicks and beer bellies have to do with going to the prison cell, but birkenstocks? come on...also, you say cubs fans dont know anything? sign up for Baseball America online (know what BA even is?), e-mail a writer or enter an expert chat, and ask them which team's fans are the most aware of their own farm system.
The only reason our attendance goes down is because we dont have thousands of drunk kids with birkenstocks and Cubs hats on summer vacation with nothing to do but go to a game they know nothing about and cheer when they win and throw Beer onto the Ivy when they are Losing!!
...(cont.) if more fans, vastly higher and more CONSISTENT attendance during winning and losing seasons (and not just summer) isnt a gauge of better fans, then that might be.
no it's not a gauge of better fans,it's a gauge of better marketing and other circumstances.like for instance.from 1981 until 1997 the cubs had every single game broad casted across the country on TV by the WGN super station.and even today they have about 80 games per year broad casted on TV by WGN,which is still a lot...
(cont.)and that helped your team get lots publicity because other regions of the country were exposed to the (Cubs/Wrigley field experience).and from that publicity spawned lots of popularity(and money).tribune corp. did one heck of a job marketing the cubs and Wrigley field.and for that i don't begrudge them at all.
(cont.) and that also made your team more palatable to the casual fan(and the casual fan makes up a rather sizable portion of the crowd at cubs games)...another factor is the neighbor hood its self.central lake view or "Wrigley ville" as it's known today underwent big time gentrification in the early 80's.and as a result of this, that area became more attractive to entrepreneurs and property owners.
which is exactly why you see all of those trendy bars, trendy eateries, lofts and condos in that area.and this plus tribune corp. pretty much shoving the bullshit Cubbie/Wrigley field/Wrigley ville experience down the nations collective throat for the last 25+ years is why they are as popular as they are today..
so um....no,you guys aren't better fans than we are...in the fact the only thing you guys are better than us at is being brain washed....and you my naive young friend are proof of that...GOOD DAY!!!
cute, really...nothing outside of the absolutely obvious, but nonetheless an entertaining read. fact is you didnt do anything to address any of the points i made, just offered proof of why we are the better fan base. yeah, its because the cubs organization gave people all across the country the opportunity to see baseball in the kind of environment it was meant to be played in. is that something to be ashamed of? same thing the braves are doing with TBS.
no you Guys aren't the better fan base. my point is the Chicago cubs are better than the sox are at attracting the casual fan.and they are better at attracting the casual fan because of the neighborhood, ballpark, and the trib's marketing schemes.that's about it.if it weren't for the fact that a big media conglomerate bought that team and marketed the hell out of them,a lot of the people that are cubs fans wouldn't be cubs fans.
(cont)and those are the advantages the white sox simply haven't had.....the fact is the cubs have a better CASUAL fan base than the white sox.and that bigger CASUAL fan base is why the cubs can suck and still draw 3 million(how many other teams have that luxury??).which isn't necessarily a bad thing....but the problem is that there are people like you who have the misguided perception that every one who attends a cubs game is a die-hard...and you simply couldn't be more wrong.
and i never said you should be ashamed of it.just don't be oblivious to the fact that the cubs have had and still have advantages that white sox don't. have...and as far as the braves go...braves games were broad casted throughout the 80's on tbs and no one gave a flying fuck about them until they had their success in the 90's.and heck, the braves popularity has been slipping off in recent years.could be because they've been losing more, but i could be wrong..
come on...theres gotta be a sox fan capable of holding their own in an argument. only djseven has made the slightest bit of sense. its sad enough that the only rhetorical jab you guys ever try to pull is '05. only the cardinals can use the WS thing now...especially when all of your success from '05 has completely vaporized. but now you try to bring up '03? poor guy...you got nothing. bring on someone else. im getting bored of you guys.
and all you're doing is using those old stand by ass jabs that are typical of cubs fans.sox fans aren't loyal, the white sox sold the name of their ball park(nevermind the fact that the sox don't own the place)....and i brought up your 03" team to make a point, and that point is potential isn't always realized...people were talking about that being competitive for years.but it didn't quite work according to plans.
(contd..)so potential isn't really anything to brag about.however RESULTS ARE.....so until your team gets results, you really shouldn't have anything to say..
the only team getting "emasculated" are your sox. and after playing us, id say "castrated" is the better word. and the "facts" i was alluded to are the numbers, which could be construed in a few ways. you could bring up that we have far more fans (the polls i mentioned...google it) or how the numbers show your attendence bombs when you guys suck. way to be loyal. also, the fact that 2005 is in the past. cubs fans care about NOW. and now, you're barely above the royals. talk about prioritzing...
when most team suck the attendance bombs...it's always been that way in any sport.the lone exception is you brain-dead cubs fans..and that's because you guys have fooled by 2 decades of tribune propaganda.damn near everybody else knows if your team sucks you should show your displeasure by not going to the games...FAILURE SHOULD NOT BE REWARDED!!!!
yeah, you won in '05...and where are u now? our team is stacked for the next 4-5 years. cubs fans have a better shot at seeing a title than sox fans from here on. and THAT, nochey78, is all that really matters.
wait? the IL sports facilities "ok'd" the renaming to U.S. Prison Cell or actually renamed it? get your own point across straight, moron. who gives a shit if they "ok'd" it. it was the sox who built (and yes, renamed) the damn thing. if futility is owning anyone right now...well, we've rubbed it in your face enough these last few weeks.
learn to comprehend moron..i clearly said that the illinois sports facilities authority ok'd the renaming of comiskey park to us cellular field.what part of that could you possibly not understand??and by the way it was also the Illinois sports facilities authority that had the place built.not to mention the fact that they've owned it since its inception.
why would i have said the illinois sports facilities authority ok'd the renaming of comiskey park to u.s. cellular field unless they fucking owned the place????
p.k. wrigley named the ballpark after himself as much as for his chewing gum company. so yeah, both teams have technically had 1 company name, and only because wrigley named both his ballpark and his company after himself. are you suggesting that's the same as knocking down a "classic" (well, at least original) park, putting up an eyesore in its place whose upper decks give even a healthy person vertigo, and selling out the last vestige of tradition the franchise had left to a phone company?
actually the illinois sports facilities authority owns U.S. cellular field, not the white sox and they are the ones who ok'd the renaming.the white sox had nothing to do with that,so get your facts straight first moron..
wow seriously does any cub fan care about their team?? or is it about fan ratings, thats all the cubs are..give them all the best plauyers and they still suck.
go to any sox fan now including me and ill be pissed at their playing like a real fan would not some drunk losers and a ball game, which i was making a poiunt that thats 90% of fans at cub games if you wanna see real fans go watch sox games w/ real fans
not entirely untrue...not 90%, but there definitely are too many yuppies at wrigley. subtract them and you still have way more die-hards there than you would at whatever cell phone coverage plan you're calling that hunk of cement these days. and what do you mean "does any cub fan care about their team?" dont you mean, "does any sox fan care more about the success of their own team more than the failure of the cubs?" i thought that would at least change once you guys won in 05, but it hasn't.
yeah, that and our dignity. and to the dumbass below me, what we have is the city of chicago, where your team is still nothing more than an afterthought. your team may have won the world series, but WE still own the city. that, and we don't watch games in a concrete wasteland.
since you decidede to be a smartass...the season after the sox won the championship...it was actaully proven that chicago was actually over-ran by sox fans...owned.
haha, "owned"? are you kidding me? and when was anything remotely like that proven? if you want actual proof, not just your dumbass ramblings, you can check the Sports Illustrated and CBS News fan polls that PROVE the sox don't have nearly the fan presence the cubs do. even as a sox fan, you'd have to be clinically retarded -- and, by the way you write, i wouldn't doubt it -- to argue that fact.
...but i am impressed that you were able to pull something like that completely out of your ass and try to pawn it off as fact. god, i cant stop laughing at that "owned" thing. i mean, how old are you?
you own the city...so what?????..what good has that done you????....let me tell you something, the gaudy attendance figures, mardi gras atmosphere, and tv ratings don't and never will make up for the fact that most of todays cubs fans have never seen their team win a title.the cubs still own the city, but futility still owns the cubs.and that's all that matters.
you can try all the bogus generalizations you want, but it wont make up for the fact that you have nothing but that...bullshit stereotypes. i prefer facts, and i have them on my side. and unlike sox fans, we dont need to be pampered with the creature comforts of a stadium that feels more like a nuclear power plant than a ballpark. us cubs fans appreciate a classic ballpark that's the envy of fans of every team except the red sox. sorry bud, but you'll never win that one.
you accuse me of using bogus generalizations, yet you turn around and do it your damn self.there's absolutely no way you can verify that the fans of every team(other than red sox fans)envy Wrigley field.just another misguided perception from a delusional cubs fan.and i'd rather go to a nuclear power plant to see a good baseball team than go to the "supposed"baseball mecca and watch my team get emasculated damn near every single game...way to prioritize dumb ass...
haha what? see a "good" baseball team? last time i checked, the only GOOD baseball team in chicago was the cubs. like that djseven guy said, the cubs still might not make the playoffs this year - the brewers are the best in the NL - but nobody can objectively say its not a good team. and how the HELL can you call it a "bogus" generalization to say that wrigley and fenway are the two most popular ballparks across the entire country? you cant argue that.
this is a cool video!! i am a die hard red sox fan and was happy when the white sox won. i was happy for the city and fans.we know what it's like so celebrate. and to all the haters!!! thats your job so just hate! you have to know what a winner feels like to understand the joy so blow me you hating bitches!!!

I was there. I was sitting just a few sections down unless I was on the other side. God, one of the best nights of my life. The guy behind me kept spilling his beer on me whenever he would stand up, and he practically dumped it on me when they won. I was such an awesome night.

It should be the greatest moment in baseball history, but it never will be because the media doesn't give a shit about any team that isn't the Yankees or the Red Sox.
But still greatest moment of my life.

So if the Blackhawks ever get to game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, will you go over to US Cellular Field to watch the game? Honestly, you just need to go buy a tv set-they're really inexpensive now. You can get a COLOR tv set for like 100 bucks!
bigbobbydahmer 3 years ago
FIRST
so let me see, should I have bought a color TV instead of spending 700.00 for a ticket for Game 1 at USCELL?? HA wouldnt trade it for the world...pennies compared to what I experienced!!!!!
Second.....
If i was as big of a Hawks fan as I am a SOX fan, then Yes I would, But Let me see, If the hawks were out of town for the Stanley Cup, then DUH, it would be on the JUMBOTRON at the United Center So yes I would be there...
djsevendp 3 years ago 5
@djsevendp first of all i would love to go to the last game at the united center.. its amazing..and yea buy a color tv for 100 buck youll get a P.O.S.. come on dude.. and either way he spent that final out with white sox fans.. you made a good choice my good sir

just out of curiosity though, because i've been thinking about this...which section of the bleachers were people giving you shit in? believe it or not, there are actually philosophical differences bet. left, right and center. if it was right field, which im assuming it was, im done with RF. im already on my last straw with right, but thats just so fucked up. upper deck rsvd. are good, cheap ass seats if u want to get a real glimpse of wrigley and cubs fans.

KONERKOSLAM14 4 years ago
funny story, no joke, right after posting this stuff i went to blockbuster and standing right in front of me in line was none other than ron santo. if u want to point to one thing about cubs fans that questions their intelligence as baseball fans, its the idiots (mostly in iowa and indiana) that swoon over him and his nonexistent cubs "analysis". THOSE there are a lot of. he was nice as hell, though. talked to me about rich hill for 10 minutes.
samuels09 4 years ago
no shit.that must've been a cool experience...i personally find ron santo's commentary highly unlistenable.but you can't question his love for dose cubbies...
nochey78 4 years ago
as much as i love pat hughes, sometimes i cant even listen to the cubs radio broadcast in the car other than to just get the score. nice guy, but its torture trying to bear with him as he explains to his listeners how his sugar-free jelly beans are stuck to the bottom of his teeth...and then proceeds to make obnoxious chewing noises into his microphone for a minute or so. true story.
samuels09 4 years ago
just curious though, what was the "technicality" you were talking about? not the radio thing, right? because thats not the hypocrisy i was alluding to. i was talking about the fact that u were using the supposed "futility" of the cubs as a point of contention when the only futile team of the two is the unquestionably the sox. i dont think thats necessarily a "technicality". the radio thing (and also the ump mauling thing) was more a joke than anything.
samuels09 4 years ago
it depends on how you define "futility"???
if you define it by box office terms, then the cubs are doing extremely well.if you define it by accomplishments, then the cubs are definitely the vanguard of "futility"..the cubs are doing well this season, but the fact is they haven't accomplished anything yet.
nochey78 4 years ago
In reply to the futility question. My Grandpa once told when I asked about how the cubs can fill that wreck year in year out & still be losers. He said, before WW2 he knew of a rest.-a hole in the wall actually, but people came & the owner got rich. He took the money & made the place nice. Guess what? The people stopped coming. Cub fans get what they get becouse they pay for it regardless of quality - Money Machine That is wrigley. Don't change a thing. Futility - No-they make thier money.
102569 4 years ago
not trying to be an ass or anything, but what exactly is your point???
nochey78 4 years ago
and again, thats the cubs organization, not cubs fans...im absolutely shocked u caught crap even in the bleachers, but seriously though, if u want to see what wrigley is really like, u gotta stay away from the bleachers...or at least out of right field. the yuppies are such a disproportionate part of the fan base. thats lakeview, not wrigley itself.
samuels09 4 years ago
well the problem is i was in LF...LOL!!!!!!
fans make for a portion of the experience with any ballpark..so that is apart of wrigley it's self
nochey78 4 years ago
as opposed to say, tampa bay...if the sox ever had enough fans to create the need for ticket scalping (other than when they play the cubs, of course), u know they'd take advantage of the same legal loopholes in chicago to do it.
samuels09 4 years ago
well,no i don't know it.PURE SPECULATION!!!
nochey78 4 years ago
well i don't know that the sox would utilize that loophole, and neither do you.i advise you to not pass off perception as fact
nochey78 4 years ago
btw i checked the dybas thing, turns out u were right. that is kind of embarrassing. also true that the tribune scalps tickets through the "Wrigley Field Premium Tickets", but thats how i can go to cubs games...just wait until their illegitimate and overpriced tickets dont sell, then buy them for face value or less when they're relisted online appx. 3 hours before the game. learned that one from cubs fans on the red line. we DO hate the tribune, but we also know how to circumvent their bullshit
samuels09 4 years ago
well you're missing the point...it's completely unethical for a team to scalp tickets to it's own fans..the cubs are the ONLY team in baseball to engage in that practice...if the white sox ever did that to us,so help me god i would stop going to sox games...it's totally disrespectful...
nochey78 4 years ago
i agree...my cousin is a lawyer, and he tried to sue the cubs for scalping tickets (he also tried suing bill wirtz and the blackhawks for not televising home games, but instead just wrote a scathing book about him called Career Misconduct). i think if you went to a few more cubs games, and NOT in the bleachers, you'd realize that the whole yuppie/"wrigleyville experience" thing is mostly just a myth perpetuated by sox fans to try to rationalize their own place in the city
samuels09 4 years ago
well i've been to quite a few cubs games as i have buddies who are cubs fans....and that is in no way a myth..not to mention the fact that i used to work in one of the bars around there.that's why i've come to the conclusion i've come to...
nochey78 4 years ago
unfortunately you aren't really circumventing anything.whether you pay inflated prices for cubs tickets,or face value they still get your money....if anything anything all you're doing either way is subsidizing their bullshit...
nochey78 4 years ago 3
so yeah, there may be a lot of them, but they're really only "few" when u consider there are 40,000 fans total at wrigley to contrast them to percentage-wise. you couldnt even fit all the cubs' real baseball fans into Cellular for a cold weekday in april, something sox fans usually cant even manage for prime games. but the team sucks again, so maybe i shouldnt expect much more from a fan base whose attendance dwindles when the team is as futile as they are now, and presumably will be for a while
samuels09 4 years ago
but you have to take into consideration the amount of fans that go to cubs games solely because the "Wrigley field/wrigleyville experience".and i think it's a majority of those fans.but, i could be wrong.and you have to take into consideration the fact that the cubs or the "Wrigley field" fanbase is simply bigger than the white sox fan base.but that is because of aforementioned reasons stated by me.
nochey78 4 years ago
and as far a attendance goes,we have the fifth highest attendance in the A.L..so,it's not "dwindling"..
nochey78 4 years ago
id say that most people at US Cellular would be like u in condemning that kind of thing, but i dont think there'd be many like u who would've cared enough about tradition to mount an opposition to tearing down comiskey. even if u seem like a real baseball fan, and u do, the majority of sox fans i see at Cell dont seem to have any deeper appreciation for the game (its more like a cultural battle than a baseball game them) than yuppies in the wrigley bleachers (the only place u really find them...
samuels09 4 years ago
speaking of in the past, the radio WAS invented before the cubs won the world series. something that that DID exist before the invention of the radio, but never after wards, was the phrase: "talk about the pot calling the kettle back". and yes, i've been harrassed at another ballpark, but i was wearing a cubs jersey at a cards/reds game. im also 18 and can handle a little verbal jousting, while my brother was ganged up on at US Cellular just for wearing a cubs hat...
samuels09 4 years ago
well like i said before, i'm sorry to hear that happened to your brother, and the guys that did that were pieces of shit.however I've went to cubs games a had to deal with shit as well.last season i went to 2 of the cubs?white sox games at Wrigley and i was seated in the bleachers.while i was there i pelted with every racial remark in the book(i'm black by the way).but that doesn't mean i think all cubs fans are bad....
nochey78 4 years ago
in fact, your entire argument is predicated on a piece of hypocrisy...u keep saying that we're the team mired in futility, and yet...have you been keeping up to date w/both teams recently? 2005 is in the past. as long as we're clearly the better team now, i dont give a rats ass what happened in the past.
samuels09 4 years ago
i agree about throwing beer on the warning track though, i never understood that, nor have i ever seen it done at the prison cell. but hey, at least we vent our frustration by throwing shit instead of mauling umpires, permanently ruining the hearing of first base coaches, and verbally harrassing kids like my little brother at the sweep game. and he never said a word. some may throw beer on it, but unlike u guys, we'd never let our ballpark get replaced. even the trib knows that.
samuels09 4 years ago
i see you're suffering from a real bad case "hypocriteitis" you guys also vent your frustration by trying to attack your own players(june 25th).and by the way,the guy that mauled the umpire(eric dybas)was a cubs fan who got piss drunk at the cubs game earlier that day.if you don't believe me,you're more than free to google it up..and i'm sorry about your brother getting harassed like that.whoever did that is a fucking idiot!!.unfortunately that happens at every ball park in baseball..
nochey78 4 years ago
what do you mean"u guys"????.i had no say in whether old comiskey got replaced, nor did any sox fan..and if the new cubs owner wants a new ball park, and finds a way to get it funded.he'll get it and your team will move out.and there's nothing "u guys"will be able to do to stop it....and the cubs will have to move out of wrigley field eventually...
nochey78 4 years ago
by "u guys" i meant that the tribune knows its fan base would wouldn't respond so indifferently if they did the same thing reinsdorf did. it seems the only way you're getting around arguments is by making up new words..how am i suffering from "hypocriteitis" (if it were real, wouldnt the "e" be dropped)? u have an easy time saying it, but once again doing nothing to prove it
samuels09 4 years ago
so my point is illegitimate because of a technicality???
nice try, but your attempt legitimacy away from what i said failed miserably to say the least.. you're being a hypocrite because you criticize white sox fans for what they do wrong, yet when some of your infallible fellow cubs fans do some dirt, you produce nothing but bullshit rationalizations..why can't you be fair???
nochey78 4 years ago
and still u fail to realize that what u call rewarding futility to us is much simpler...we stay loyal enough during losing seasons to still enjoy seeing a baseball game the way it was meant to be played, without all the US Cellular ploys to draw in the city's generally lower-IQ demographic. is that hard to comprehend? idk what you were talking about, but theres no noise, flashing lights, fireworks, etc to keep the mindless occupied...really just an organ.
samuels09 4 years ago
enjoy baseball the way it's meant to be played???
are you fucking kidding me???when did the cubs become the standard for how the game is meant to be played???.and for all these years i thought lack of execution and futility WAS NOT how the game was meant to be played...thanks for setting me straight kid....i'm definately having an epiphany right now.
nochey78 4 years ago
so i guess pretty much every fan in baseball other than cubs fans are mindless right???
because after all, if you go to pretty much any ballpark in baseball, you'll more than likely see flashing lights, fireworks, organ music, gimmics and other music in general.and they do play music at wirgley field other than organ music, they do have flashing lights at wrigley field(fancy ribbonboards).just facts what is done at the cell is done at the big urinal...just not as much...
nochey78 4 years ago
when you guys stop supporting a team that hasn't won any thing since before the radio was invented, and when you guys stop supporting a team that would stoop as low as to scalp tickets to its own fans(and not at face value either),then and only then will you guys probably be able to braG about having the higher I.Q.til then,STFU!!!!!!
nochey78 4 years ago
same old crap...yes, i can COMPREHEND your frivolous "points", i just dont think shallow, regurgitated arguments merit much acknowledgment, especially when so incredibly simplistic. you've gone from sounding like a trolley narrator to a schizophrenic conspiracy theorist. we get it, tribune brings in a few yuppies...i could have told u as much.
samuels09 4 years ago
wow talk about the pot calling the kettle black!!!!!if you're gonna criticize someone for producing percived "shallow, regurgitated arguments"then it might be a novel concept to not produce any of your own...it kind of makes you look like a hypocrite...but you obviously don't have a problem with that....do you????
oh,and it's more than a FEW yuppies....stop understating what's fact...
nochey78 4 years ago
...most of them (like me) hate the tribune with a passion now and arent buying any of the McDonough marketing crap. let them exploit a few of the lakeview yuppies (a small minority). there are still more of us that take to the cubs because we actually pay attention to the game - we have too much respect for baseball to be lured in by awful blaring music (Journey?), droning noises, flashing lights and all the other sox gimmicks it takes to draw the real "brain dead" people in.
samuels09 4 years ago
most of them hate tribune?????BULLSHIT!!!!!.you clowns love tribune!!!!....if you didn't,then why keep going to the games??? why keep subsidizing their deceit???..why keep being loyal to an entity that isn't rewarding that loyalty with even a modicum of success???......you guys are getting SCAMMED!!!!
nochey78 4 years ago
respect for baseball my ass!!!!!...throwing trash on the field whenever your team has a controversial call go against them is NOT indicative of a fan base that has respect for baseball..and it's funny that you mention blaring music, droning noises, and flashing lights, because with the cubs games i've went to this season(didn't pay for the tickets by the way) i noticed all of this stuff going on at certain points in the game..
nochey78 4 years ago
so if you're going to keep going at this, at least stop sounding like a trite narrator on a bad trolley tour of the city and ditch the cliche tribune company history lesson. you're not proving anything by providing a cause to prove the very effect i've been talking about. regardless of what brilliant fan relations measures it took, the fact is that cubs fans have taken to the team beyond any marketing plan that only serves to draw them in...
samuels09 4 years ago
and likewise you need to stop sounding like a deluded and oblivious member of the cubbie sheople.and what do you mean i haven't provided a cause...are you literate???...do you have the ability to comprehend??.the REAL fact is that CASUAL FANS have taken to that team beyond any marketing plan....and without them and tribune...no one would care about them.where were all of you "die-hards" before tribune bought your team????
nochey78 4 years ago
if you call us "brain dead" for following our team and simply enjoying a live game of baseball even when our team is hurting, then that says more about what kind of fan you are than anything else i've been rhetorically deconstructing u with. idk, maybe djsevendp is a better representative of sox fans. if i were one i'd be there all the time, even though they're so bad they're auctioning off and turning the Cell into even more of a flea market than it already is (see, we can all use stereotypes)
samuels09 4 years ago
and yes you guys are "brain dead"...and i call you all "brain dead" because you all reward futility and failure, and think it's no big deal....last year the cubs almost lost 100 games and yet they draw 3 million????? WHAT THE FUCK!!!!!!! that is totally ass backwards..your team sucks and you give them more money??...that defies all logic and common sense...and that says to me that a lot of the people who attend cubs games aren't necessarily their because of their love for the cubs..
nochey78 4 years ago
i think you have the best point so far, and so as not to be a hypocrite, i'll give up my ranting and just hope a Havlat/Toews/Kane line for the hawks can bring home another united center celebration like this one.
samuels09 4 years ago
Well I will say this.
(and just to say to samuels09 that us prison cell comment is just as a stereotype as is Birkenstocks)
djsevendp 4 years ago
yeah, i admit that (last post). stereotypes may not be the best way to settle an argument, especially for one that shouldnt even exist. but again, i just feel like sox fans instigated all the bitterness and now both sides are irreversibly caught up in it. was it inspired by some elitism from cubs fans? maybe. but either way, i think most of us would've cheered for the sox over the astros, just like i cheered for them against seattle, had it not been for getting so much crap from the sox.
samuels09 4 years ago
Can anyone answer this? Why does there have to be fighting going on when the Sox are winning or the cubs are winning? Cant we just say, Hey, Cubs are playing great ball!or Wow the Sox are Playing good!
I just dont get it!I am a SOX fan bORN AND RAISED on 35th st.But I dont hate the CUBS. Shoot, I have been to more CUBS games this year than SOX games (only because 3 of mine were rained out LOL (and my Fiance' is a CUBS fanLOL)
i just dont see why we cant all just say
HEY GOOD JOB!
djsevendp 4 years ago
dude, i would completely accept that. to tell you the truth, i went to a sox playoff game with my dad (a fair weather fan) against the mariners when i was really little, and i didnt hate them. the sox were always just an afterthought. but now, it seems like sox fans care more about the cubs losing than the cubs winning, and i just cant take that. i said one little comment that was probably out of place to start this, but when sox fans throw out cubs stereotypes like that, i just get pissed.
samuels09 4 years ago
sorry, i meant cubs losing than sox winning. i know i throw out some sox fans stereotypes, but you gotta fight fire with fire. like i said, i agree with you, but id say the onus is on sox fans to start that kind of trend, seeing as they're the ones generally propagating the most hatred towards the other team.
samuels09 4 years ago
dont know what birkenstocks have to do with anything...i can tell you what hicks and beer bellies have to do with going to the prison cell, but birkenstocks? come on...also, you say cubs fans dont know anything? sign up for Baseball America online (know what BA even is?), e-mail a writer or enter an expert chat, and ask them which team's fans are the most aware of their own farm system.
samuels09 4 years ago
The only reason our attendance goes down is because we dont have thousands of drunk kids with birkenstocks and Cubs hats on summer vacation with nothing to do but go to a game they know nothing about and cheer when they win and throw Beer onto the Ivy when they are Losing!!
djsevendp 4 years ago
...(cont.) if more fans, vastly higher and more CONSISTENT attendance during winning and losing seasons (and not just summer) isnt a gauge of better fans, then that might be.
samuels09 4 years ago
no it's not a gauge of better fans,it's a gauge of better marketing and other circumstances.like for instance.from 1981 until 1997 the cubs had every single game broad casted across the country on TV by the WGN super station.and even today they have about 80 games per year broad casted on TV by WGN,which is still a lot...
nochey78 4 years ago
(cont.)and that helped your team get lots publicity because other regions of the country were exposed to the (Cubs/Wrigley field experience).and from that publicity spawned lots of popularity(and money).tribune corp. did one heck of a job marketing the cubs and Wrigley field.and for that i don't begrudge them at all.
nochey78 4 years ago
(cont.) and that also made your team more palatable to the casual fan(and the casual fan makes up a rather sizable portion of the crowd at cubs games)...another factor is the neighbor hood its self.central lake view or "Wrigley ville" as it's known today underwent big time gentrification in the early 80's.and as a result of this, that area became more attractive to entrepreneurs and property owners.
nochey78 4 years ago
which is exactly why you see all of those trendy bars, trendy eateries, lofts and condos in that area.and this plus tribune corp. pretty much shoving the bullshit Cubbie/Wrigley field/Wrigley ville experience down the nations collective throat for the last 25+ years is why they are as popular as they are today..
nochey78 4 years ago
so um....no,you guys aren't better fans than we are...in the fact the only thing you guys are better than us at is being brain washed....and you my naive young friend are proof of that...GOOD DAY!!!
nochey78 4 years ago
cute, really...nothing outside of the absolutely obvious, but nonetheless an entertaining read. fact is you didnt do anything to address any of the points i made, just offered proof of why we are the better fan base. yeah, its because the cubs organization gave people all across the country the opportunity to see baseball in the kind of environment it was meant to be played in. is that something to be ashamed of? same thing the braves are doing with TBS.
samuels09 4 years ago
no you Guys aren't the better fan base. my point is the Chicago cubs are better than the sox are at attracting the casual fan.and they are better at attracting the casual fan because of the neighborhood, ballpark, and the trib's marketing schemes.that's about it.if it weren't for the fact that a big media conglomerate bought that team and marketed the hell out of them,a lot of the people that are cubs fans wouldn't be cubs fans.
nochey78 4 years ago
(cont)and those are the advantages the white sox simply haven't had.....the fact is the cubs have a better CASUAL fan base than the white sox.and that bigger CASUAL fan base is why the cubs can suck and still draw 3 million(how many other teams have that luxury??).which isn't necessarily a bad thing....but the problem is that there are people like you who have the misguided perception that every one who attends a cubs game is a die-hard...and you simply couldn't be more wrong.
nochey78 4 years ago
and i never said you should be ashamed of it.just don't be oblivious to the fact that the cubs have had and still have advantages that white sox don't. have...and as far as the braves go...braves games were broad casted throughout the 80's on tbs and no one gave a flying fuck about them until they had their success in the 90's.and heck, the braves popularity has been slipping off in recent years.could be because they've been losing more, but i could be wrong..
nochey78 4 years ago
come on...theres gotta be a sox fan capable of holding their own in an argument. only djseven has made the slightest bit of sense. its sad enough that the only rhetorical jab you guys ever try to pull is '05. only the cardinals can use the WS thing now...especially when all of your success from '05 has completely vaporized. but now you try to bring up '03? poor guy...you got nothing. bring on someone else. im getting bored of you guys.
samuels09 4 years ago
and all you're doing is using those old stand by ass jabs that are typical of cubs fans.sox fans aren't loyal, the white sox sold the name of their ball park(nevermind the fact that the sox don't own the place)....and i brought up your 03" team to make a point, and that point is potential isn't always realized...people were talking about that being competitive for years.but it didn't quite work according to plans.
nochey78 4 years ago
(contd..)so potential isn't really anything to brag about.however RESULTS ARE.....so until your team gets results, you really shouldn't have anything to say..
nochey78 4 years ago
the only team getting "emasculated" are your sox. and after playing us, id say "castrated" is the better word. and the "facts" i was alluded to are the numbers, which could be construed in a few ways. you could bring up that we have far more fans (the polls i mentioned...google it) or how the numbers show your attendence bombs when you guys suck. way to be loyal. also, the fact that 2005 is in the past. cubs fans care about NOW. and now, you're barely above the royals. talk about prioritzing...
samuels09 4 years ago
when most team suck the attendance bombs...it's always been that way in any sport.the lone exception is you brain-dead cubs fans..and that's because you guys have fooled by 2 decades of tribune propaganda.damn near everybody else knows if your team sucks you should show your displeasure by not going to the games...FAILURE SHOULD NOT BE REWARDED!!!!
nochey78 4 years ago
so we're barely above the royals..so fucking what???
you do understand that there's still a whole half of baseball left to be played, right????
nochey78 4 years ago
I will admit , the cubs are playing better ball this year, but wait a minute......THEY ARE in 2nd place and Still under .500?????
How does that work??? The whitesox won 90 games last year and didnt even make it to the Playoffs!!
If i were a cubs fan, I would get excited after I made it past the Brewers.
UNTIL THEN, dont get too excited!!!
djsevendp 4 years ago
yeah, you won in '05...and where are u now? our team is stacked for the next 4-5 years. cubs fans have a better shot at seeing a title than sox fans from here on. and THAT, nochey78, is all that really matters.
samuels09 4 years ago
you guys had a better shot in 03' what happened????
your team in 03' was supposedly stacked for the next 7-8 years after that....how'd that work out????
hate to break it to you but potential doesn't guarantee results...never has never will...
nochey78 4 years ago
wait? the IL sports facilities "ok'd" the renaming to U.S. Prison Cell or actually renamed it? get your own point across straight, moron. who gives a shit if they "ok'd" it. it was the sox who built (and yes, renamed) the damn thing. if futility is owning anyone right now...well, we've rubbed it in your face enough these last few weeks.
samuels09 4 years ago
learn to comprehend moron..i clearly said that the illinois sports facilities authority ok'd the renaming of comiskey park to us cellular field.what part of that could you possibly not understand??and by the way it was also the Illinois sports facilities authority that had the place built.not to mention the fact that they've owned it since its inception.
nochey78 4 years ago
why would i have said the illinois sports facilities authority ok'd the renaming of comiskey park to u.s. cellular field unless they fucking owned the place????
nochey78 4 years ago
still wrigley field is a company sponsered park.. am i right? yeah the sox have only had 1 sponsered stadium by a major company
gatorsrok123 4 years ago
p.k. wrigley named the ballpark after himself as much as for his chewing gum company. so yeah, both teams have technically had 1 company name, and only because wrigley named both his ballpark and his company after himself. are you suggesting that's the same as knocking down a "classic" (well, at least original) park, putting up an eyesore in its place whose upper decks give even a healthy person vertigo, and selling out the last vestige of tradition the franchise had left to a phone company?
samuels09 4 years ago
actually the illinois sports facilities authority owns U.S. cellular field, not the white sox and they are the ones who ok'd the renaming.the white sox had nothing to do with that,so get your facts straight first moron..
nochey78 4 years ago
wow seriously does any cub fan care about their team?? or is it about fan ratings, thats all the cubs are..give them all the best plauyers and they still suck.
go to any sox fan now including me and ill be pissed at their playing like a real fan would not some drunk losers and a ball game, which i was making a poiunt that thats 90% of fans at cub games if you wanna see real fans go watch sox games w/ real fans
gatorsrok123 4 years ago
not entirely untrue...not 90%, but there definitely are too many yuppies at wrigley. subtract them and you still have way more die-hards there than you would at whatever cell phone coverage plan you're calling that hunk of cement these days. and what do you mean "does any cub fan care about their team?" dont you mean, "does any sox fan care more about the success of their own team more than the failure of the cubs?" i thought that would at least change once you guys won in 05, but it hasn't.
samuels09 4 years ago
yeah, that and our dignity. and to the dumbass below me, what we have is the city of chicago, where your team is still nothing more than an afterthought. your team may have won the world series, but WE still own the city. that, and we don't watch games in a concrete wasteland.
samuels09 4 years ago
since you decidede to be a smartass...the season after the sox won the championship...it was actaully proven that chicago was actually over-ran by sox fans...owned.
tonyrez1 4 years ago
haha, "owned"? are you kidding me? and when was anything remotely like that proven? if you want actual proof, not just your dumbass ramblings, you can check the Sports Illustrated and CBS News fan polls that PROVE the sox don't have nearly the fan presence the cubs do. even as a sox fan, you'd have to be clinically retarded -- and, by the way you write, i wouldn't doubt it -- to argue that fact.
samuels09 4 years ago
...but i am impressed that you were able to pull something like that completely out of your ass and try to pawn it off as fact. god, i cant stop laughing at that "owned" thing. i mean, how old are you?
samuels09 4 years ago
yeah instead you watch your games in an old,decrepid,cramped,hellhole.....looks like we win!!!
nochey78 4 years ago
you own the city...so what?????..what good has that done you????....let me tell you something, the gaudy attendance figures, mardi gras atmosphere, and tv ratings don't and never will make up for the fact that most of todays cubs fans have never seen their team win a title.the cubs still own the city, but futility still owns the cubs.and that's all that matters.
nochey78 4 years ago
you can try all the bogus generalizations you want, but it wont make up for the fact that you have nothing but that...bullshit stereotypes. i prefer facts, and i have them on my side. and unlike sox fans, we dont need to be pampered with the creature comforts of a stadium that feels more like a nuclear power plant than a ballpark. us cubs fans appreciate a classic ballpark that's the envy of fans of every team except the red sox. sorry bud, but you'll never win that one.
samuels09 4 years ago
OH MY GOD!!!!!
you accuse me of using bogus generalizations, yet you turn around and do it your damn self.there's absolutely no way you can verify that the fans of every team(other than red sox fans)envy Wrigley field.just another misguided perception from a delusional cubs fan.and i'd rather go to a nuclear power plant to see a good baseball team than go to the "supposed"baseball mecca and watch my team get emasculated damn near every single game...way to prioritize dumb ass...
nochey78 4 years ago
you prefer facts?????
ok,um what exactly would these "facts" be????
nochey78 4 years ago
haha what? see a "good" baseball team? last time i checked, the only GOOD baseball team in chicago was the cubs. like that djseven guy said, the cubs still might not make the playoffs this year - the brewers are the best in the NL - but nobody can objectively say its not a good team. and how the HELL can you call it a "bogus" generalization to say that wrigley and fenway are the two most popular ballparks across the entire country? you cant argue that.
samuels09 4 years ago
wow, entire empty sections there. a poor showing by sox fans, but hey - what do you expect? they rarely even fill up U.S. Cingular.
samuels09 4 years ago
world series champs....enuff said to the dumbass below me.

gofrigylarkus 4 years ago
LOL! YEAH! I'm a WhiteSox fan and I was jumping up and down when the RedSox won. I think all of America was rooting for the RedSox that year!
