The reason there was only the one relief in the piston is because that was on the Exhause side and it was the large Exhaust Valve, you got it confused thinking it was the side with two Valves.
wow sodium filled valves never seen one before, in the states you must dispose of them properly. if ya get caught with them i think you get a LARGE fine.
@Aussie50 ah i see! yea over here you have to get them disposed the same way you get rid of dangerous chemicals or pressure vessels..... they make a really big deal bout it
@thunderbird948 thats correct, most get neglected and die a horrible death. when if they serviced them well and kept things clean they would last as long as many Jap cars!
I've seen cylinder damage like that before... in my high school autoshop. a great big hemi I think it was had it's air cleaner off and sucked up a loose bolt which went into a cylinder. left the impression of the bolt on the compression stroke, then the bolt broke a valve during the next trip up. The valve got embedded sideways in the piston on the third upward stroke. By the fourth stroke the engine must have stopped since all this was left intact and now sits on the "table of shame"
The crank position sensor would be more of a tone wheel than hall effect (cam sensors, with magnets). Same idea as abs sensors. Its a permanent magnet with coil around it, and one pole aimed at the wheel. If you look into the original Hammond Organ you'll understand why they are called tone wheels.
@freakofthewest That is exactly right, and so is Ed, They have hall effect, and your tone wheel in the automotive world is called a variable reluctance sensor. The gap in the toothed wheel is usually measured by the sensor approximatey 80 degrees before top dead center. If you have an oscilloscope and free time, studying the crank/cam signal relationship is a fun one. I absolutely love setting up standalone engine managment. Google / youtube "megasquirt", a complete open source Standalone EMS
would make a great boat anchor now ha ha you should make a sterling engine from scratch one day , they are neat , and fun to build , you I know have the parts , and the equipment to pull it off lol it would be a quick and safe for anyone project ...
this engine shared virtually the exact same head design as the engine in my magna, i think there was a joint enture as they defiantly used the same auto through a few cars. as you sy thing is people dont maintain there cars, my magna is 100% reliable with a little preventative repairs, people dont understand that idea tho.....
Hi Ed Hyundai have a joint venture with Mitsubishi, they share engine development and production. Hyundai make great cars these days and offer the best warranty in the industry a 5 years unlimited mileage warranty. Mum has a Hyundai Getz with the 1.3 litre version of your engine, it has over 100,000 miles on it from new and not a single repair and the engine still runs like new. As you say neglect is what destroyed your engine. Hyundai's latest engines are 16 valve Gasoline Direct Injection with
Two revolutions of crankshaft for one revolution of camshaft (and distributor / diesel oil injector pump etc. as well). Like ALWAYS!! 01:14 - WTH Ed?? Can't believe that you are uncertain in that! xD
90% of that engine was fine. Cheap car with a tuff engine, WTH?? That's a true waste!
Hey mate, love your videos, just a heads up: I find this video unwatchable, video is slowed down and the audio cuts every so often, can't make a thing about nothing... Come on Youtube, It is what you do, present videos, might as well put some effort in it...
there was so many things that was wrong with this engine and whatever mechanic replaced the head didnt tell the guy about the pistons because it would of been cheaper to replace the pistons rather than the head.
not sure what got in that piston, but it sure made a mess!!! RE youtube stuffing up your vids, I had to watch this in Google Chrome as Firefox played it at half speed. It is something to do with Youtube trialling HTML5, this messes videos up!
Cant wait to see that starter - literally an exploded view!!!!!
that piston head looks like a sparkplug got in there. I saw something similar when my dad dropped his chainsaw while it was idling. I took it apart and the sparkplug got eaten up by the piston.
@Aussie50 i had a old volvo once i got 4 free to take away as parts, had a bad motor and took the head off. tuned out it was a broken bolt partruding the piston ,well wanted to drive it cus it looked really good so i cut thred in the hole and a peace of the bolt was set in the hole and worked exelent for 2 years till i sold it to my friend who helped me do the "build" he sold ot 4 years after and i just sw it yester day, still same owner and engine´73 deluxe 15 years on.

Well since Photonicinduction vanished, I really miss over voltage videos (and similar)
I did not subscribe on you because all those car videos. I have NADA interest in cars (unless ran on air plane fuel going mayhem like that washing machine!)
So I hope you sort your videos and make an own channel for the other stuff.
@Riskteven or read the title and if it doesn't say 'high voltage' don't click it, then it will be easier for the rest of us? im not necessarily subscribed for hv stuff but dont winge about it. and if it comes to the point the channel was never just about high voltage so i really dont understand you
@Jaytheozzi Well did that, but got obscure videos about things they call "magnet motors" and "bedini botors" uploaded by people without any knowledge at all, they believe they can construct a perpetuum mobile. They are probably just risking killing themselves with current. People without knowledge should not even get close to technology. Photonic was right in that case. That was why he took them off as it seems but now, spirit is already out of the bottle and others experiment...
@lazaglider yep, I invite anyone who gets the shits up about me mixing my video themes to a prestigious party on the Unsubscribe button, just click it and wait for the party to start. :D
I generally refer to that sort of timing gear "hydraulic roller rocker" as a "Roller Follower, with Hydraulic Lash Adjustment" - Simply because I use "Roller Rocker" to describe a pushrod rocker with a roller that pushes on the VALVE STEM.

that's a lot of scrap metal, do you recycle or resell any of it? it has to be worth something

@TheFlacker99 their not sodium lined, it was carbon residue from burning oil, very long time too.
I do have sodium lined valves from a mercedes tho, not aware of there being any fines for throwing them in the trash tho.

those crankshaft position sensors are extremely precise. If you ever get a misfire code, it's the CPS that detected it.

Crankshaft position sensor is not Hall-effect based. It's basically just a magnet with a coil. It works as a generator and outputs simple sine wave.
JumperOneTV 1 month ago
The hall sensor can have a magnet on the back so when the tooth goes past it picks up the field between the magnet and tooth.
