I spent my early formative years in OC. Lived on Holmes Lane, attended Mt Pleasant and Thora B Gardner through 8th grade. My dad worked for Crown Z and was transfered to Lebanon. OR in '64. Used to ride our bikes down Linn Ave. I had my tonsils out in the old hospital. Remember swimming in the "tank"? Brrrr. 24 Flavors. A real trip down memory lane here.
Actually, the mill scenes were filmed at the Crown Zellerbach mill in West Linn. Publisher's was the mill across the river in Oregon City. If you do a Google search for "route 66 oregon city" (without quotes) the first result will take you to a related story published a few years ago in a local paper.
I lived there for 62 years. I remember when this was filmed and aired. My father worked on the log pond at the mill (Publisher's Paper Co.) where this was filmed. I was also born at the hospital shown in the background of the large home on 10th & Washington. Thanks for the good memories.
I remember that brief color intro; it's the same one that's on the four-disc set I got at Amazon: "Route 66--Season 3, Volume 1"
The O.C. episode is on disc 2. (Also on disc 2 is "Lizard's Leg and Owlet's Wing," featuring guest stars Boris Karloff, Peter Lorre, and Lon Chaney Jr.)
On disc 1 of that set is "One Tiger to a Hill," the episode filmed in Astoria the week before the Route 66 folks came to Oregon City; the opening shows the Corvette bombing up the beach on the Oregon coast.
Great video! I wasn't born yet when this aired but I am in Oregon City all the time as my mother works for the City of Oregon City. @Jules: Yes, how nothing much changes over time! All that has changed is that someone painted everything in color. ; )
I grew up in Oregon City during most of my childhood and teen years. My husband and I still go back once a year to vacation. It's fascinating to see what the city looked like 50 years ago. So much has changed, yet, so much has stayed EXACTLY the same. Too fun!
After some research I found this was aired November 2, 1962. "Across Walnut & Wine" was part of the 3rd season of Route 66 and they actually have that whole season at the Clackamas County Library.
Wow, this is neat. I have been a long term resident of Oregon City and also have a love for classic cars. This video is a nice combination. Does anyone know how I could get the full episode. I would be happy to pay for it. All the best!
@TAAX It's just a small clip that I posted for a radio show that I work on. Actually, the host, Terry Boyd, would be really interested in talking to someone who was there. You interested?

That's one neat episode of 'Route 66' Kinda far form route 66, close to route 99E perhaps.
I bought a new '62 Corvette while living in California, I moved to Oregon City in 1966, my first job was at Larsen's Creamery.

Great Clip, I've only lived in Oregon City for 32 years, but my wife was born in the once Oregon City hospital that shows up in the clip! Love it.

Ha. I'm pretty sure the kid who was running away was the same fellow who played Charlie X on the Star Trek episode of the same name.

This is really neat to see. I live right around the corner from where this was filmed.
The views of Main Street and 7th street below the elevator are amazing! I never knew there was a train station right at the elevator!
(Also, I've run up those stairs a bunch... they're hard to run up!)

@swedewilliam71 . My mother in law and all her sisters lived off of Jefferson st. at the time. They'd love to see the rest too.

@olliew72 My family and I grew up on Jefferson St. between '78 & 83. Was your mother-in-law still around then?

Heard the background story to this on KPAM radio.
Pretty cool. I watched Route 66 all the time when I was a kid living in Philadelphia.
