Actually they used to(from Zinman Furs of Camden NJ)until Bob Barker took up the animal rights stance in honor of his late wife. That's why he resigned from hosting Miss USA/Miss Universe.
LMAD is my 2nd favorite game show behind TPIR. The show's concept based on its simplicity and audience participation should have made it last much longer on the air, but stuff happens I guess. Also, to see someone win $30,000 back then is truly great!
i apologize in advance if you're offended by this, but i can't help but think that you didn't watch the 2nd half of the clip, if you did you would've known who i was talking about.
Host Monty Hall, announcer Jay Stuart, and the lovely (but always silent) Carol Merrill, made the 70's LMAD incarnation rock! Remember those yellow Armana side by side refrigerator-freezers and the legendary Vega?
During the 1975-76 season when the Super Deal segmant was around, the Big Deal amount was between $8,000 and the maxinum of $10,000. The Super Deal degment was discontinued for the final (1976-77) season when the show moved to Las Vegas and the Big Deal range was between $10,000 and $16,000.
I remember one episode where a black woman does win the big deal, and the super deal both,,,but not many people where that brave to risk the big deal.
My sister and I used to stand in the driveway... I would play Monty and my sis would play Carol. I would say what's behind door number one and my sister would activate the electric garage door opener and model our folk's car as the big prize. She would stand with her feet just perfect and slightly off set and raise her hand in the air looking at the car with a big smile. Sometimes as adults we have been caught late at night doing the same thing... we just love it!
I suppose when they replaced the $1000 with the "mystery amount" (usually more than $1000), it was due to nhardly anybody risking the super deal.

In fact, a fur was the first item given away on the (daytime) "Price is Right" when the franchise returned to TV in 1972 with its retooled format.

This should, in my opinion, be re-named "Let's Make A Heartbreaking Deal".

About how much is 30,000 worth now???
danlee5456 3 years ago 2
I would venture a guess at $50K
voicetube 3 years ago
Considering that a Firebird would cost maybe $30000 now or 5X the amount, I'd make it $150,000 which would still be a lot for a nighttime show.

It was on for over 14 years but by 1977, Monty got bored with the show and wanted to take a break from it.

I liked how the live music Ivan Ditmars played was getting contemporary in the 1975-76 season compared to the others in the original run.
