i wish they would have figured out a way to keep these planes around. its one of my favorite looking planes and its crazy they are made out of all composites. i go to school at a technology center and we have one that hasnt flown for a long time and is absolutely ruined but they are amazing planes and im glad to see that one still flies. great landing by the way
because it was the only composites and noone else need to but composites nearly as much so they werent mass producing the parts and people were having to pay to much money to fix parts and beechcraft quit making them then bought all the ones they could off of people who owned them and crushed almost all of them except about 5 i think
Well.. Raytheon bought out Beech, and they didn't want to have to supply spares.
There's more than 5 if I remember right. Seen one flying at Oshkosh, one on display at Pima Air & Space Museum, one flyable at Owensboro... Might be closer to 12.
Thank you so much for keeping this stunning aircraft airborne. If I had the money this would be my first aircraft to buy. To bad they were scrapped. Thanks for the videos! I'm planing to build a 3D model of her!!
ya dealing with insurance claims and all that BS can be a pain, i just got my king air 200 back last week after 4 months being down due to FOD damage. let your boss know if he ever wants to sell the thing he has a buyer in fort worth. im concidering a 350 but if the price is right i would much rather have a starship
N8244L saw it two weeks ago in a hangar in liberal KS missing the #2 engine...had a generator explode...bet that was fun, atlantis, are you the owner/pilot?
OK, they happen quite often, so I picked a few randomly:
1st one is at 9 sec., two at 0:42, a very clear one at 1:53, another at 2:12. Last one is very clear, at 5:00.
They only seem to happen while in flight. I have a feeling they're some kind of altitude reminder, like every 500 ft descent or something. Or, maybe when you press a certain button, like alt. hold?
That's what I thought you were talking about. You are correct -- those are altitude alert chimes. They are designed to go off at 1,000 ft to target altitude, and if the aircraft deviates more than 300 ft from assigned altitude. This happened in this flight when I got into a downdraft and hastily asked for a lower altitude.
Yeah, it isn't too bad -- enough to get your attention, but not enough to stress you out -- kinda like the female voice in the F/A-18 -- "Bingo Fuel" never sounded so pleasant!
Many thanks for this great video! Yep, you can add me to the list of those who really miss this aircraft. I think I've only seen four Starships and am very happy to have been able to enjoy them.
Very nice! I saw a Starship when I flew into KRVS back in October. I know there's only a handful left and I figured you were probably the guys I saw. It was a great show. Keep 'em flyin'!
The forward wing only moves when the main wing flaps move (actuated with the wing flap switch). There's a comparitor box that looks at the position of the flaps vis-a-vis the forward wing. At times one might see the forward wing stop while in movement -- this is to keep the forward wing in sync with the flaps. The forward wing is either extended (-4 deg sweep) or retracted (30 deg sweep); moreover, the main wing flaps are either retracted or extended (7 deg. extension).
She is awesome to fly. She handles turbulence better than just about any aircraft I've had experience with. The only negative flying characteristic is crosswind landing. Unlike a King Air that you can stick into a 30 kt crosswind, the Starship is good for about 15 to 18 kts. Muchmore than that, you better have a very wide runway!
Trade for a 1979 KA200? lol. Great video, great aircraft!

It 'floats' on the air the way a ship should.

How does she do when it comes to staying coordinated? Do you have to stay on top of it or does it just wanna move a little here and there?

they were recalled because beechcraft didn't want to supply parts and keep up with the maintenance for it

Yes, engine is going through complete teardown, inspection, etc. It's taking way too much time. I am the pilot.

What's the occasional two-tone beep? Each is approx 2 sec long?

Hmmm...Not sure which one you are referring to -- at what time in the timeline of the vid are you referring?

excellent vid! can you compare in general your experiences with aircraft that have the "push" configuration V.S. ones with the "pull" configuration?
urbanannihilators 3 years ago
They fly really about the same. The only difference that I can feel is when we come up on power -- you feel it in your back -- more like a jet.
atlantisaviation 3 years ago
I'm also curious, at what point do the canards come forward? Is it automated due to angle, airspeed, or a combination?
