  • To everyone slagging off the men and women of the RNLI, especially the crew of this Lifeboat.....HAVE YOU VOLUNTEERED YET? i thought not! they are all volunteers who go out to sea in any weather, at any time of day or night, any day of the year and risk their lives purely to save someone elses. The only reward is getting back in one piece. These brave people deserve respect not abuse from keyboard warriors. If you aint gonna give respect then i suggest you fuck off.

  • Everyones a fucking expert on here Do it for real instead of in your armchair then right a comment ya fucking puddle pirates

  • hmm. to be honest.... less throttle there would have ensured they didn't go over. JS simples

  • @thehangover69

Nope. That wave was much too steep for that boyant-bowed boat to pierce without pitching back. That's what it looks like to me anyway But I'll have to defer to the guys on board:-)

  • they train for this as often as they can but bet it was still hard work getting back in after it righted with the inflatable bag, v=8twZglg0YFI

  • SHAME THEY DIDN'T LAND IT

  • make sure you cut the video off and don't show the rescue. thanks.

  • @SmoothJohnson Hm. Thanks for everyone who puts down the camera and starts helping when it is needed...

  • Nothing but respect for those guys!

They are indeed dead brave, and sometimes they end up just dead.

Knowing that and still going out anyway means hey have my deepest respect.

  • we have lift-off......oh no scrap that.......we have a submarine, lol. they were training for stupidity.

  • WOw now that looks like a good time.

  • maybe if he went a tad slower once he went up the wind caught him then it was good luck hopefully they were alright

  • Was this a training exercise? having THAT boat out in that was dumb. Unless there was a real emergency and there was nobody else. That boat was nothing more than a kite with a motor on the back. Dumb.

  • @proffromgview it was a shout not a training exercise

  • What about Davey Jone's locker? Don't they teach that in schools anymore?

  • @TheCannonofMohammed ha ha ol davey jones locker didnt hear that in ages

  • DEAD STUPID!!!

  • hahaha thaT MADE luagh my ass off!, everyone is like: waheyyyy , woow, damm that was a big one, ohh shit!! swim for your life!

  • did u know that the RLNI only are all volentiers thay dont get paid

  • i saw it. i was on that boat. i died

  • @holypaladinpewpew yeah me too, i was the guy on your left

  • Some commentors are idiots fact! You try going out in those waves - I've nearly flipped a RIB in slightly calmer conditions. You'll see in the vid that they're going in to a strong wind too. RIBs of this size can get a second & often larger lift off the top of a wave from the wind - I went vertical when the wind caught my bow - it's scary as hell! My hat goes off to these guys, often going out in extreme weather to rescue fellow idiots like some of you who clearly know better!!!

  • Wow! I've had quite a bit of experince piloting a R.I.B. in rough weather and they do not handle like other boats (my least favorite in high seas), however those rubber sides are alot softer on people's heads than fiberglass or wood. My advice, (if anybody cares) is to have the coxsains spend countless hours alone in a smaller, tiller controlled R.I.B. Lots of hours, alone, in good weather and bad. Every second of that vid. demonstrated lack of experience, not bravery.

  • @teapotwasp why would a rib need to be piloted wot was your job????

i think your an arm chair hero.....

  • @devonsurf Your right. I'm no hero, however I think I've spent hundreds of hours on open ocean, in conditions similar to those depicted, and nearly fliped countless times. Then I decided to pay attention. You can change yourself, but not the boat or the conditions. Check the vid of a german submarine and rib rescue. That helmsman is great. If the tubes extend further aft you would increase pitch stability, but sacrafice helm response, or move weight forward. There is no free lunch.

  • sos ........sos........heallllllllp.

  • we only do verticals in the Netherlands :P

I've never been in a boat that did a backfilp

  • I'm glad all were OK... Just goes to show what the RNLI do .. putting their lives on the line for others... Thanks to all the crews around the coast from a grateful boat owner.

  • Brave guys to go out in that weather. The RNLI have maximum respect.

  • My son is in the USCG now doing this everyday at Cape Dissappointment He was a USN rescue swimmer before he made the decision to join the USCG. It is not an easy job but he loves the excitment and thrill of a "save". These guys risk it all, it is foolish to sit in your safety and mock what others do. They bravely put into action what they believe in. We should all think before we type.

  • @hinkco hope the best for him :-)

  • We had an incident just like this at Oregon Inlet, NC in 82'. The F/V Lois Joyce was aground on a sand bar and the 82' Point Brown couldn't get close enough to throw heaving line. We launched our RHIB (2 crew) to send over the tow line. En route to the F/V, the high winds caught the RHIB and they flipped over.

This was in mid December during a winter storm. Luckily the tide was coming in. The 2 crew members spent 15 min in the 46deg water.

Turned out REAL crappy that day !

  • I can't believe there are people making fun and calling them 'dumb-arses'. They risk their lives to go out and help people, in this incident the boat flipped over because the conditions where to extreme for a rib but as people say 'just get a bigger boat' cough cough, the RLNI rely on donations and they would if they could. Think before you press that comment button.

  • Don't let the stupid comments get to you mate , a lot of these morons sitting at home making fun of these situations are some of the type of people these rescuers have to risk there lives to save.

Respect should be given to anyone who puts their life on the line to save others.

Police, Ambo's, CFA, Surf Resuce, Military and many other volunteers world wide.

  • Are they saved its lifebelts maybe? And i not understand why they risked... They did the error. Why they not swinged to the beach when they can swinged? (i am sorry that i have language errors) Thnks!

  • I agree with some of the coments of the Octastar, The old 21 was a bit light and in the weather it went out in a bit more speed may of helped, The new 85 would have faired a bit better with the extra weight and length. : )

  • Smiler1 ~

    very true ..

The weather is a bit like that in the vid ., down here in the SW today..

  • to all the morons that don't have anything inteligent to say , take a look at the video; RNLI: Sea Survival Pool

  • You need to make some headway fairly quick to get out of the surf zone. A bigger boat is not possible from this locations launch facillities. And a RIB has a lightweight construction that does not help in these conditions. At the end of the day they did the best they could. It's a shame that all the armchair critics are bloated morons making judgement from their chairs without ever actually experiencing real life !

  • Poisonseed ...

    I didn't say it was !

  • crazy biggest waves ive seen on my beach :O

  • Non mais quelle bande de taches !!!! ils n'ont jamais appris ou simplement remarqué qu'il ne faut pas prendre la vague perpendiculairement de face ??????? Ils ont même étés avertis 2 ou 3 vagues avant...

  • you fucking dickhead if you realised how many people the r.n.l.i saved every year, and also how hard it is to handle one of them boats in bad weather, then you might think twice about making stupid comments!!!!!!!!!!

  • definately, and especially as its all volunteer crews too, they dont just go out for the fun of it, granted, the helm may have been going a little too quick into a headwind, but he also would need to get out of the surf zone as quick as possible. ive heard of atlantics

  • @adie1268 wow dont get your fanny up

  • @adie1268 ...AND you might think twice about placing your stupid scrawl here, simpleton.

  • @adie1268 especially with 2 +100 hp engines.. and all the weight in the back... WTF!?

  • what is RNLI?

  • Royal National Lifeboat Institute

  • thnks. Royal sound like russian word "рояль" [royal] . "рояль" is "piano".

  • I should say the lack of operator skills

  • The operator definitely needs training in operating an RHI in rough water. The capsizing was not a result of weather it was the result of operator skills.

  • i agree

  • americans have no business at sea

  • what makes you think this is in america jacked up sailor?

  • these aren't americans idiot. this is the RNLI based out of the UK smart one. USCG doesn't take out little floaties into the surf. we use the big boats buddy.

  • Don't you just love proving overconfident asses wrong? It seems...so satisfying hehe

  • Agreed, I had a person tell me that the Airbus A380 was designed by the Russians...that is pure ignorance if you ask me. I guess the idiots really show, you just have to let them press the post comment button...and the magic starts there hehe

  • The RNLI uses just as large boats...just not in all circumstances....

  • how is that a backflip

  • gosh you'd think the coast guard would know you need people bow riding in huge surfs

  • saw that coming...

  • it's actually called a pitch pull

  • thats not a backflip, its a rib flipping in rough weather duhh

  • thats the coast guards, of course they didnt die.

  • no back flip there

  • That wasn't a backflip! Did they die?

  • I just bought a similar boat. Zodiac 550 SRMN. Problem is that they have no weight in the front and probably no stabilzer fin on the outboard. The throttled up the wave and look like got a BLOW OVER. Strong wind turned it into a kite.

They are hero's who are practicing to save lives. SaveMoreSouls

  • And then...?

  • I was a seanan for 12 years. Hats off to the RNLI.

    God Bless these guys.

  • didn't quite make that backflip there buddy

  • Wow, rarely see that happen, shows how brave they are, risking their own lifes to save others, the RNLI lifeboatsare Awesome!!! Great Capture by the way!

  • only got respect for lifeboat crews, they have to go out in the weather that has the rest of us turning tail, heading for the nearest port and sitting it out with a beer in our hands

  • RIP

  • Great name, highly descriptive

  • Commerce happens on the seas. These brave men and women risk their lives so that they can rescue mariners who get caught in storms.

Look at your shoes, look at your computer, look at your tv, look at your food. Chances are all or part of it was shipped via sea lanes.

Now, aren't you glad these brave people practice rescues in high seas so that they can rescue the people who feed, cloth, and entertain you? Yes, they do it for idiots too.

  • That's why I don't buy none that sh retard.

  • haha powned =)

  • Great capture, hope all were ok.

  • not a backflip u fucker

  • I'm not sure I get it.

I presume that the rescue boat crew and captain was highly experienced, so it's a mystery why they were so light in the bow and over-throttling into that surf into the face of a heavy wind...especially given 3-4 warning "standups" in the proceeding waves.

They needed more weight up front while breaking through the surf, and one suspects that the crewmen aboard could have provided it...although the ride would have been damned uncomfortable for a few minutes.

  • I totally agree there old stag! were I'm from you depend on the fellas up front to stop this very thing happening, in fact this was a very unexperianced crew to let this happen.

The fella on the throttle however was the man to blame.

  • Wasn't weight nor wave that flipped the boat. Watch the wind and know what your talking about.

Yes mistakes were made, but unless you are some overly macho navy seal type... nobody rides forward the "fello on the throttle".

Unsafe, visual hindrance and bow heavy will duck dive it into the wave like a surfer does.

  • "Know what your talking about" mmmm, need I say more.... careful there old mate.

  • were they all ok

  • that sucks

  • haha silly fuckers

  • cunt

  • thats shit

  • That looked pretty fucking scary. Im no pro at boating but you cuold tell the 3-4 waves before the boat flipped...the guy seemed he was going a bit hard on the throttle. Holy shit I would have been scared/pissed.

  • "It" happens! If regular boaters would not go out when they should not be out then the USCG would not have to go out to their rescue but I am happy that the USCG has the people, gear, training, experience, and BIG ONES to get out there and get the JOB done 99999.9 % of the time without error! Errors make great training videos when caught on tape (or DVD LOL:-) Thanks for sharing!

  • What kind of stuf were those boys smoking?

  • wtf, that anit' a backflip dipshit, that landing flat on arse more like. still must hard men gone out liek that.

  • ratchet im quite surprised that at your station people 'sit back and laugh' about rolling an Atlantic. Im on the crew at Fleetwood and i can tell you that flipping one of these is totally unheard of and from what ive heard from more senior members of my crew, its completely terrifying. I recognise the clip - can anyone tell me if its Blackpools boat?

  • Not Blackpool this boat is out of Whitstable Kent. It was to assist boats out of Herne Bay that had been fishing within a mile of the shore. Within 30 minutes a SW force 4 went W force 11. All got back but it was very scarey just waching them get back to the relative safety of the harbour. I had bee due to go out on my boat that morning to fish but decided not to go !!!

  • hey come on guys i work on a lifeboat station and when things like that happen and nobody gets hurt people do turn back and laugh about it. It was the helms error. He had too much throttle on when riding over the top of the wave. They show this video in the lifeboat college as a what not to do.

  • ya ves!! eso es mala suerte. Se unio una contraola y plaff

  • i work on the life boat you fool lol......

  • Vinch.....it looks like they didnt get hurt....or did they.....they would of just hit water but at fairly high power..post back plz :)

  • yh they nearlii did so it aint relii that funnii is it. and plus if you had the balls to do wat they did u wuldnt do it, i kno the only female to work at that lifeboat station and she has got more balls than you have

  • that was my m8's on that boat and if you was there you wuldnt of found it that funny

  • londonstarpress you wanker

  • haha yer it is fair funny

  • i love pop tarts

  • Ok mr anger management i found it funny fullstop

  • there is no comical factor to this at all as i am part of the crew where this happened and i also no all 3 people that where involved

luckly none of them got hurt but the all escaped with there lives

  • i posted the video. sorry if it offended. two reasons why i posted it.

1/ if you are one of the crew, i hold you and all of the RNLI up as one of the best three things about the UK (the others are the NHS and the Ordinance Survey)

2/ it is an amazing backflip. i have never driven a rib like that, but it quite clearly impresses on the viewer the lengths that you women and men of the rnli go to to save our sorry ass when we get into trouble

    thanks,

    tom crawford

  • Please do not get me wrong... am not offended by the clip, in fact I think it hs a lot of worth to show the sort of conditions and hazards faced by the RNLI crews around the country. My soapbox moment was completely directed at our friend londonstarpress, who I assume also collects other videos of people in dangerous situations and laughs at them until he's crying.

How the winter nights must fly by in that household.

  • f you ! it was not even a backflip .

  • If you're part of the crew then you'll know that ur mates were trained what to do in that situation, and that itself is why they didn't get hurt. I think saying 'they escaped with their lives' is a bit over-dramatic don't you?

and before you start bitching back - i'm crew on an atlantic 75 and have done the crew course at Poole. Bear that in mind eh?

  • Being ex lifeboat crew i find it insulting that you post Haaaaaaaaa at this movie clip, these guys / girls have gone out to risk their lives in aid of those in need. You seriously need to rethink about what you see funny about this clip.

  • haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

  • londonstarpress - what exactly do you think is comical here? Could it be the fact that 3 guys, unpaid, volunteer, going into the unknown to help complete stranger in difficulty could have been seriously injured or even killed by this?

    Prick.

Just because you obviously wouldn't have the balls to do what these guys do you think it would be good to laugh at them. Get a fucking life.

  • i do think its comical, but with the most complete and sincere respect for what these men and women do. really, the RNLI is one of the, if not THE finest institution in our country. one of the very few things that make me proud to be british. the video is from the rnli website, and they have the humour to laugh at themselves too, so allow yourself a slight chuckle, and a wince, and, rightly, respect these people hard work and efforts
