This short can take a few viewings before it makes sense to you. Every time I watch it, it's like bathing in a tub of beautiful color and euphonious sound. The philosophical musings are not that profound, but they don't really need to be. The mood is all that matters.
I do find it hilarious that everyone is talking about Christopher Doyle and WKW's lighting etc - when really the main look is in the production design, costumes, and editing and special effects by William Chang.
Siento no poder ayudarte.
@lagook yeah, i assumed it was doyle too, until i paid attention to the credits. DOP is philippe le sourd who did seven pounds and that...i don't think doyle's done any work with wkw since 2004 (eros + 2046)....
Amazingness. However, I don't like the use of the music on this one, maybe something a little bit futurustic would've been better. But I know WKW likes to use Latin American music, kudos to WKW.
For anyone wondering what the song is, it's called Siboney (by Connie Francis).

Too slick for my liking: it's like a perfume-ad. But with a rather pretentious philosofical dialogue. In this case an unfortunate combination.
The woman might be pleasing to the eye but she's not interesting: rather bland.
Wouldn't have thought this was a Wong Kar Wai film...

Anyone who can intellectualize a scene like this needs to have their testosterone levels checked.

The wardrobe, hair, and makeup remind me so much of Lanvin.

Any chance for an HD reupload now that youtube offers this possibility? This beautiful piece deserves a better quality. Thanks in advanced!

@violettabrazh Uf, Tsvetaeva......... sus poesías son horribles D: un poco enfermizas, causan angustia.
podrías citarme alguna más luminosa y agradable para recobrar mi gusto por ella?

Gorgeous, odd, and intriguing. I love WKW.
But at the same time, I don't think this has the mood and emotion of his best work.

Wong Kar Wai is an amazing artist! Only him can make something so beautiful from such a vulgar and commercial idea...

@asia911 Don't confuse Wong kar Wai with Christopher Doyle -- regarding the color and lighting, that is.
msa1985 1 year ago
@msa1985 He still has to give him the idea, and once Doyle came up with something, he still has to give the go ahead.
I'd know, because I'm John Woo.

Also worth mentioning, Christopher Doyle didn't DoP this one but Philippe Le Sourd.
