Whats stopping me from using solid core copper wire as the connections ? also why have the tabbing wire run the entire length of the silver strip on the front wouldn't it be more economical to use the bare minimum when connecting the cells i.e. from just the bottom to the just the top of the next cell rather than run it trough the entire length of the first cell and then the second cell.
By using the tabbing along the whole cell you ensur the best connections throught the cell. if for some reason a portion of the cell quits working the rest of the cell is still producing energy and passsing it along. Plus if a cell quits sending energy it creates a break in the circuit and the whole panel would become inop.
second Question you can as long as you use some sort of rosin to make connections. However silver soder is recommended by anyone who works with solar cells.
Does it make since to try to solder a round object to a flat object. Seems to me you can use copper, but the standard is tabbing. An alternate reason could be because you create more space between the glass and the solar cell and the industry can produce solar panels in a much more precise manner then you are I. Since you are not a manufacturer I see no reason why you can't use copper wire. I would stick with the tabbing.
Good Cells but you should take some 220 Grit Diamond dust sand paper and scrape off the White or PreSoder the cell because sometimes the White Aria will not take the Solder properly the Tab wire still appears attached but it is making spotty Contact so you are better off Scraping off the White coating.

if cells were bigger, it would be faster, dont you think. food for thought!

I live in an apartment and must hide the panels from view. So, this size works for me. Otherwise big is better.
