@ChaosDynamics I understand what you're trying to say, but the term democratic centralism refers to the internal organization of Leninist (Communist) political parties, in which they debate and vote on policies and they all must support said policies once a majority vote is passed. What you're referring to is centrism.

Ordinary colonists were benefiting hugely from free trade within the Empire which kept prices low and quality high. After independence, the US government retreated behind protectionism.
