  • I SPEAK IN TONGUES EVERYDAY...WE MINISTER TO PEOPLE IN THE STREETS AND BRING THEM INTO THE CHURCH...BAPTIZE THEM IN THE NAME OF JESUS AND WATCH THEM SPEAK IN TONGUES....YOU NEED TO READ YOUR WORD AGAIN AND PRAY AND SEE IF YOU HAVE THE HOLY SPIRIT...GOD BLESS YOU

  • [1 Corinthians 14]... "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself"... "Anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit...Anyone who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret what he says. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my mind is unfruitful. So what shall I do? I will pray with my spirit, but I will also pray with my mind; I will sing with my spirit, but I will also sing with my mind."

  • YOU ARE WRONG!!!! me LexiCON Friend

  • Picking of a few scritures to prove what is stated is a gross misuse of knowledge. For instance using just 1 Corinthians 14:2. Read all the scriptures 1 Corinthians 14:1-40 Heads up on Verse five and six. Pay attention to Verse 12 and verse 13 as well. The "church" is Christ Jesus! We are to edify Christ, not ourself. You can smack your lips all you want, but Our God is not the author of "confusion" Speaking in unknown tongues without understanding is "confusion." Pastor W. M. Shoap

  • If God wants us to be careful with our words for the Glory of Himself and ministry to others, why would he want us to speak in tongues? Does one go up to a nonbeliever and start speaking in tongues? No, it doesn't convict.

Besides what is the point of speaking in tongues? Is it an advantage over other believers that don't have the gift of tongues by being closer to the Holy Spirit? Aren't we all saved equally? I think the Bible refers spiritual gifts as a means to spread the Gospel.

  • I used to go to a church that had people speak in tongues. I always wondered why they never had to interpret it as the Bible said they were to. It usually ends in mass confusion opposite of what the Bible says should happen in church. I agree with Dr. Cairns. The charismatic perspective of tongues and Acts 2 is wrong. You don't spread an idea by speaking something people don't know what you're saying. You spread it by word of mouth with people understanding it. It's called sentence structure.

  • this guy has book knowledge but no spiritual understanding.

  • I'm praying that the Holy Spirit falls upon him one day and he is blessed with the Gift of Tougues!! And after that happens, he should post a response to his own video!!!

  • It appears that Mr Cairn's Bible must be missing 1 Corinthians 14:2 "For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries." This verse clearly destroys the argument that tongues are foreign languages. According to the verse tongues are "mysteries in the spirit" which "no man understandeth "

  • Dr. Cairns is also totally wrong that speaking in tongues MUST be an understandable language. He clearly has not read 1 Cor 14 at all because Paul states clearly that speaking in tongues is NOT to be understood by man, but ONLY by God. The only way man will know is if someone has the gift of interpretation that allows man to know what the Spirit has spoken. I rebuke this false teacher he is just at fault as the prosperity gospel false teachers.

  • I respect this man as a believer and a brother in Christ, however I am saddened to see a man who think he knows exactly how the Holy Spirit functions. He teaches about something so damning to tell believers and non-believers that the gifts of the Holy Spirit are dead. He is a teacher and the scriptures clearly indicate the serious judgement for those who wrongly teach. Paul clear says to seek ALL gifts and that he thanks god for speaking in tongues (14:18).

  • God is free to do as he wants, Dr. Alan Cairns unfortunately has not seen missionaries and evangelist preaching and speaking in the natives own languages given by the Holy Ghost. (foreign languages, not gliberish).

  • This man's lies shows his contempt for Paul's doctrine articulated in Romans 15:18. He presumes to discuss a gift he hasn't experienced and he exposes his brainwashing by lies. Millions of people speak in tongues and Jesus said, "These signs shall follow them that believe."

By Jesus' own words, we can see they don't follow this man because HE REFUSES TO BELIEVE.

Mocking the Word of God, he pretends to be qualified to teach it.

    How ludicrous!

Believe who you want. I'll go with Jesus.

  • Why is it, that "speaking in tongues", is mainly seen in the "WOF", false teaching crowd. Could this be a clue?

  • @88momart It is definitely a clue. Paul said, "But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the WORD OF FAITH, which we preach;" Rom 10:8ff.

The false teachers are YOUR crowd. Paul's and Jesus' words (Mark 16:17) are what we follow. You follow the Baptists and like the Baptists, you don't let the Word of God move you even when you're rebuked by its clear words. That's called UNBELIEF and it's what caused God to judge Israel and He warned YOU in the NT.

  • no mr WSGAC tonues in the bible was never jibberish that no one could understand, that sort of thing existed in the roman and Greek world at that time period. look up the pytheian spirit and the temple of Apollo.

  • @lunabranwen You didn't read very carefully or you wouldn't have falsely accused him of claiming anyone spoke "jibberish." He never said any such thing. Furthermore, I'm certain he doesn't believe it either.

Why would you falsely accuse someone like that?

I know the answer. You're operating from presumption and unbelief; common maladies of all who reject the miraculous aspect of the Scripture and REFUSE to believe the supernatural is for today.

That doesn't please the Lord Jesus.

  • I know a deaf woman who can't speak English clearly. At a bible study with people who used sign language or who could understand it... this woman spoke perfect Hungarian! Didn't sound deaf!!!! Maybe you don't know ALL the language that exist in the world! It's the gift that Satan likes to counterfeit the most----BUT it exists-still...I take it you don't have any gifts of the Holy Spirit (Directed at the video maker) Even missionaries have had sudden tongues come on them as well.

  • I grew up in India in a primarily Hindu atmosphere. After my conversion I was baptized by the Holy Spirit and received the gift of tongues. For this brother to insult the Holy Spirit is disheartening. I hope he will visit India and see thousands of people speaking in tongues, miraculous healings and casting out of demons.

  • I hate to say it but Brother Cairns, you have taken 1 Cor 13:8 out of context. Look at the full passage, it says in verse 8 that knowledge shall vanish away along with tongues (languages, not spiritual gift of tongues) and prophesy. We get the clue that this is speaking of a future time because knowledge is lumped in with the others. Did knowledge pass away in AD 70? Bummer.

  • In Bangladesh... A man that never heard English before in an unreached people group... He started shouting praise to God in perfect English... it's not gone brother... maybe it is where you are... but that's probably your own fault... try some missions experience.

  • "We ought to be ashamed of ourselves; the saints endured all that (trials and persecutions, in ignominy, hunger, and thirst, in humiliations and temptations), but we who are servants of God try to win honour and glory by recounting and making known what they have done." Saint Francis of Assisi

  • As the drama unfolds, let's look at Paul? Was he one of the original Apostles? Hint: NO! But wat does he say? Immediatgely following his discourse on love, Paul then says "I thank God I speak in tongues more than you all"..."Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues." Why in the world would thank God for a gift that only the original Apostles received? And why would he tell the elders not to forbid something that is going to die off anywy?

  • I feel so very sad for you. I have been saying for a very long time now, "You can't give away what you ain't got!" How many people were in the Upper Room? At least 140, including the Blessed Virgin Mary. So if everyone was filled with the Holy Spirit, then how could it have died off with the Apostles? Again, let's take a look at the Centurian Conelius. He and "everyone in his household" received the Holy Spirit and began to prophesy. Was Cornelius one of the original Apostles? Certanly not!

  • He's wrong. Gift of tongues is not the ability to speak in foreign languages. This presumes the gift is given so that those of a foreign tongue might understand what is being spoken through the one who has the gift of tongues. But the instances where the gift is given in Acts, there are no foreigners. Acts 19, Paul comes upon some believers. Why would the gift fall on them if they all were of the same tongue? Or should we presume these few all spoke different languages? Cairns is wrong.

  • @WSGAC - your word is true. Acts 19:7 clearly states after the Spirit was given by the laying on of Paul's hands and baptism in the name of Jesus - that "they spoke in tongues and prophesied" - there were 12 men in all. Why would they speak in tongues if there was no one else available to hear them.

This man's teaching is not correct.

+ if it's worth anything I speak in tongues every day and am constantly filled with the Holy Spirit's presence!

  • @joshuapitka - You misunderstand me. Cairns states that tongues = foreign languages. Why would the gift of foreign languages be given to 12 men when those men most likely all spoke the same language? For what purpose would a "foreign language" be given to men who all spoke the same language. Point: tongues is not confined to foreign languages. It's something else!

Cairns argument also fails when he cites, "tongues shall cease." Paul also said "knowledge will pass away." Cairns fails here

  • @WSGAC I don't think I misunderstood you. I actually agreed completely with you! It is obvious from scripture that there are 'different kinds of tongues'. I have heard even present day testimony of the gift of tongues = foreign tongues being used on the mission field when it was needed. I suppose then it is still needed! Just not in Canada so much (although sometimes while witnessing to people I could use it!!)

Agreed though - the kind dispensed in Acts 19 is not the same as in Acts 2.

  • @WSGAC I am sorry but you are completely incorrect in your statement.

1.) Acts 2:6-12 Clearly states that they were speaking a foreign language since verse clearly states "because each one heard their own language being spoken" then in verse 9-11 It tells where each of the people were from who heard this.

2.) You claim about there being no foreigner is a logical fallacy called arguing from silence.

  • @Onetruthrgv - You're problem is you want to force every scripture into that square hole....even after you've misinterpreted the scripture.

1Corinthians 14:2 For anyone who speaks in a tongue does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit.

Interesting how this passage on tongues goes straight against that round hole into which you're attempting to pound that square peg. But I'm sure you'll try. Now get out that hammer!

  • @Onetruthrgv "I am sorry but you are completely incorrect in your statement."

You lied. He was not completely incorrect. His ONLY error was the crowd on the day of Pentecost. There were two other occurrences of speaking in tongues where HE was correct and furthermore, he was also correct in his explanation. You shot your credibility to shreds in your darkened zeal.

Also, when the Samaritans received the Spirit, the Word says, "when Simon SAW the the Spirit was bestowed..." What did he see?

  • @Onetruthrgv You don't say it outright, but I'm led to believe that you accept the lie of Cairns that the speaking in tongues is only for the benefit of the foreigner who understands the language along with the resultant implications. This is error. The newly baptized in the Spirit on the day of Pentecost weren't preaching the Gospel as some liars claim, but were "speak(ing) ... the wonderful works of God." Acts2:11 and LATER Peter preached. If they were preaching, why didn't they

  • @Onetruthrgv cont2 cry out, "Men and brethren, what shall we do?" Furthermore, why haven't the Baptists ever asked this question of the lying preachers who tell them that the tongues speakers were "preaching the Gospel." This false doctrine is NOWHERE in the Bible though it is FABRICATED with this as a phony reference. Yet the Scriptures say, "In the mouth of two or three witnesses may every fact be established," in BOTH Testaments.

1Cor 14:2 says the tongues speaker speaks to God, not to men.

  • @BludBaut I am sure they do speak to God, but they speak for man much in the same way that the choir at church sings to God but also for man. Again this still has nothing to do with what language they spoke. This passage does not say "For they spoke in gibberish to God" it says who ever speaks this language. That's all you are arguing from silence.

  • @Onetruthrgv I'm arguing from knowledge. You're arguing from ignorance and were you the slightest bit HONEST with yourself, you'd admit all you have is an OPINION. One which is incredibly ignorant of what the Scriptures plainly teach.

Bottom line: you're just not honest.

  • @WSGAC At the time of Acts 19, Ephesus was the second largest city in the world. There were plenty of foreigners around.

  • @y2chramer - But consider the context. Paul came upon some disciples and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?” “John’s baptism,” they replied.

Notice, they are talking to each other and understanding each other, and that there were only ~ 12 persons involved (ie. a small group). Why would the gift of *other languages* be needed?

  • @WSGAC "Why would the gift of 'other languages' be needed?" Because there were a quarter of a million people in Ephesus. The Ephesian church was the launching place for the evangelization of all of Asia.

  • @y2chramer - Context chramer, Context! The gift manifested among 12 men, not a quarter of a million. You're inferring, and not exegeting.

  • @WSGAC I didn't say the gift was manifested "among" 250,000. You asked why the gift of other languages was needed by a small group of believers who were located in a large metropolitan mission field. (Context)

  • @y2chramer - I am aware of what you said. But you are inferring that the gift manifested for the purpose of reaching the quarter million people in Ephesus. Yet the 12 Ephesian men Paul met there all spoke the same language. Was there really a language barrier in Ephesus? Do you find language barriers for Paul in his missionary journeys? Scripture shows he was able to speak to the inhabitants of every city he visited, Ephesus being one. Ever heard of Koine Greek?

  • @WSGAC Ephesus was at the crossroads of both land and sea travel and commerce. If ever the gift of tongues was needed, it was here.

  • @y2chramer - I see. So you are making an inference.

  • @WSGAC Look at Acts 2:5, as well as the rest of the chapter. It says they spoke other languages. The Greek word used is dialectos (dialect). These were foreign languages spoken by Jews visiting from other nations. Paul states that tongues were for sign for unbelievers.

  • @ConspiracyJim - Look at 1 Corinthians 14:2ff. "For anyone who speaks in a tongue [another language] does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them; they utter mysteries by the Spirit. But the one who prophesies speaks to people for their strengthening, encouraging and comfort. Anyone who speaks in a tongue edifies themselves, but the one who prophesies edifies the church."

Hmmm, an example of using another language (tongue) but no one understanding. Interesting!

  • @WSGAC What is your point? Yes, no one understood. There was no interpreter. Paul commanded there be an interpreter when speaking in tongues. Also, your initial post that I replied to was incorrect. "Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven." They were foreigners. They most likely spoke Hebrew, and possibly, Greek or Aramaic. Yet, they heard the Apostles speaking in their own dialects. These were the foreign languages spoken where the Jews' came from.

  • @WSGAC It wouldn't matter if they were speaking human languages or some "heavenly" language: still, no one would have understood without an interpreter. As far as Acts 19 goes, maybe this was for their edification, to ensure them they had the truth. Maybe to ensure Paul and others with him they were doing the right thing. Look at Acts 10:44-46. The Jewish Christians were shown by God that the Gentiles were equal to the Jews in the Church. The tongues were a sign to the Jews in this case.

  • @WSGAC Try this article: the-highway. com/ tricho-charis_Brown. html

  • @ConspiracyJim - Nothing comes up. But I've probably read a similar version of whatever the material is.

Let me ask you, Do you believe knowledge has passed away and that prophecies have ceased? Or do you think it's only tongues that have?

  • @WSGAC actually Paul is a foreigner in Ephesus

    .

  • @WSGAC Check your greek. KJV says "unknown (or unlearned) HUMAN language", not some mysterious gibberish. I believe tongues are still in effect but the church misuses the gift - very much like the Corinthian church.

  • @markp201channel - Check your KJV. That's an English version and not greek. Hope this helps.

  • @markp201channel good response. Tongues are a gift for a sign only. there is no power in tongues. its only a sign for the unbeliever. Tongues helps to edify the individual that has that gift.

  • im confused o_O

  • Good biblical teaching wonderful! Im so sick of that babling in the Church totally foreign for christians in nearly 1800 years. Repent of your babling, God has clearly spoken in Scripture how we should serve Him and how we shall pray to Him. Now, repent of false service and false prayers - and take your doctrines and theology from the Bible. instead of forcing Paul to say something he does not in 1 kor 14.

  • I'm a born again christian and i speak in tougnes in prayer everyday. They will cease when perfection has come, and that hasnt happened yet!! (take a look around)

  • @GodChild1990

I am not trying to be funny, but how many tongues do you speak in?

  • @GodChild1990 When will this perfection come?

  • If someone can't read the ancient script of the new statement in ancient Greek, shouldn't give explanations like these. The gift of languages still exists but the hard part is to know when it's the real holy ghost or it's some demons that trying to imitate it in order to confuse the believers. That's why also one from the nine gifts of the holy ghost is the ability to examine the spirits.CORITHIANS 12-8

  • Oh!

  • The other issue is the extreme charismatic movement and some pentecostal churches are clearly in violation in regulating the spiritual gifts. Paul clearly states in 14:40 let all things be done decently and in order but there is clearly disorder confusion and chaos which will keep believers like me away from their movements.

  • @loyalpatriot100 Well said loyalpatriot

  • It is true that the gift of tongue was foriegn languages but there as also a gift of tongues of mysteries.

    1 cor. 14:2

"for he that speaks with an unknown tongue speaks not unto MEN but unto God:for no MAN understands him howbiet in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

The gift of tongues here in this verse is clearly not an earthly language becasue "no man understands him".

So the real question is not if this mysterious gift existed the question is did it cease or is it available today. cont

  • In regard to missionaries not being able to speak the language suddenly, many of those missionaries may not be sent of God. Would it not make more sense to occupy yourself spreading the Gospel to those in your own city than to go to another country because you feel like it? There are too many people, doing too many things that God has not called them to do, we need to take time and seek God's will for our lives and THEN move

  • @Apocalips320 yes, I agree; wise words

  • A third one (and I was present myself this time) an evangelist from New York came to my city, and he does not speak the language, he at one point told his translator (a man that I know) to stop interpreting and the evangelist began to speak and pray in Spanish, but he doesnt speak it

  • Another example, in southern Mexico, in the region where there are still many indigenous people who speak Maya, many of them do not speak Spanish at all, so a Mexican pastor invited to preach in a village near Guatemala, (the man could NOT speak the indigenous language), got up to the pulpit, with an interpreter, but he did not need the interpreter, he was able to preach in the Mayan language for the duration of his message. Note: Niether of the examples that I have written are 2000 years old.

  • @Apocalips320 Prove that this happened with specific names of those present, times and dates, and testimonies from the Mayan audience. I have found in my own research that these testimonies are often bogus. This is what Peter warned about,"we have not followed cunningly devised fables".

  • @1cor14 I do not have to prove anything to you, God saw it, and there are many witnesses, you ignorantly assume that it is a 'cunningly devised fable' likely because you limit God in your own mind through the doctrine that someone spoon fed you. I will prove nothing here, because incredulous people such as yourself will not believe it, and I doubt that you would go to the mountains of Mayan country to verify anyway. Have fun in your little box.

  • @Apocalips320 I was "spoon fed" this doctrine by none other than Ezekiel(see Ezekiel 13:1-13). Also got a good dose from Jeremiah(see Jer.23:26). If I limit God in my own mind I'm in good company along with the apostle Peter so I don't mind this accusation. Believing everything that someone tells you concerning spiritual matters is not neccesarily a tennant of the faith but rather more characteristic of the "natural man" someone who cannot disern between true and false.(1Cor.2:12-14).

  • @1cor14 I can discern just fine sir, but let me ask you, who are YOU, as an anonymous youtube user, to doubt what I say, when you dont have any idea who I am? You automatically doubt three examples that I gave that do align with Scripture, why? Again, I do not feel that I need to prove this to you, and if you do not answer I will not be disappointed. Goodbye

  • @Apocalips320 I think your discerner is busted. You present logical falacies;they implode on themselves. For instance you are also an anonymous you tube user who has no idea of who I am. In another post you you claim I don't know what you preach while at the same time you yourself don't know what I preach. All I know is that the Mayan testimony that you site does not align with Scripture. Foolishly you bought into it hook line and sinker.

  • @1cor14 Haha! I was referring to the specific things that YOU wrote calling me a false prophet buddy! How does the 'Mayan' testimony not align with Scripture? Are you also calling me a fool? That puts you in danger of Hell.

  • @Apocalips320 Apparently you believe in works salvation. This is something that in itself needs to be repented of.

  • @1cor14 Apparently I believe in works salvation? Where do you get this from? OH wait! I am asking so many questions when you never answered my first question. How does any of the testimonies I have given not align with Scripture? Do you not have an answer?

  • @Apocalips320 The real gift of tongues was a speaker speaking in a number of different languages that coinsided with his audiences understanding of them. It never was given to bridge a language barrier. In Acts 2 everyone knew Aramaic. Also there was always an apostle of Christ there to expain the purpose for the gift. There were 4 occurances of this gift in Acts, probably no more. These occurances helped establish some important beliefs in Christianity. The gift is no longer given.

  • @1cor14 Another thing I left out, I read the texts you provided, the one that I dont know from memory, and you are calling me a false prophet, by associating those verses with me, beware of where you tread blind man, you may fall into a hole, you do not know what I preach to be saying such things as that I am a false prophet, nor making those comparisons.

  • @Apocalips320 If the shoe fits wear it. A good book on this: "In Search of Charismatic Reality" by Neil Babcox Neil describes his own journey in coming out of the errors of Pentecostalism. He knew from the passages I have used that perhaps he him self was a false prophet but rather settled for the fact that these stories he was passing around and his own prophecies were sinful. He left the movement for genuine Christianity.

  • @1cor14 I do think that I am done conversing with you though, there is no point, you demand proof that you likely arent willing to verify anyway. I dont argue with people like you as it is, goodbye

  • Well, I saw an evangelist once, from Puerto Rico, who went to Russia. He does not speak Russian, he speaks Spanish. A woman came to the area where he was preaching and she had a problem and was requesting a prayer for healing. The evangelist needed no interpreter to understand the woman, he heard her in Spanish, but she was not speaking Spanish language. It sounded familiar, just like in Acts 2 when all the different groups heard the Gospel in their own languages.

  • You are wrong sir e.g. tongues of angels "If I speak in tongues of angels"gibberish=GYBR ish language spoken by GIANTS (GYBR= the mighty) gabriel=GOD IS MIGHTY You must have kissed the baloney stone.

  • You are wrong sir e.g. tongues of angels "If I speak in tongues of angels"gibberish=GYBR ish language spoken by GIANTS (GYBR= the mighty) gabriel=GOD IS MIGHTY

  • You are wrong sir e.g. tongues of angels "If I speak in tongues of angels"

  • You are wrong sir e.g. tongues of angels

  • the gift of tongues those exist today

    thanks to the lord Jesus

  • @TG070 yes it does exist..And i dont know what he is talking bout because..With out charity all these gifts in the holy spirte will cease thats what the bible was saying..But he was right when he said that tongues was a language thats very true.

  • Can you tell me what is praying in the spirit that Paul speaks of, which is differentiated from praying with understanding? He says that it would not be understood, but would edify himself and speak to God...so what is it? Also, what about Paul saying "do not forbid the speaking in tongues." I am not defending speaking in tongues, but genuinely want an answer to those issues.

  • @middleagedknight He said forbid not to speak with tongues telling you dont put away tongues dont do away with it.WHAT he is saying is when he said i rather you prophesy then speak in a unkown tongue..He just letting you know just because he said that..Dont do away with tongues..And the only thing that make speaking in tongues unknown is the sound paul exsplain that in Corinthians CH14 VERSE 6 threw 10.Then he said let HIM that speak in an unknown tongue pray that he my interpret..

  • The gift is the Holy Spirit. A manifestation of that gift is speaking in tongues, prophesy etc...

  • man.in Bible, this gift as important as the others...what can u told me then about the gift of languages interpretation?u wanna say that both of them are not available today...U're trying to take out a gift from the Bible and to state that is irelevant nowdays...u should't dare to...Because it's writen Whoever'strying to add or take out any word from what have been said in Bible, let him be anathema. So may God bring light in ur life:)peace

  • heresy.

  • yes absolutely.. there is no speaking in tongues today for there is no more reason to have it. when man can do it, God leaves it to him. there is now a universal language that is English and when a congregation doesn't understand English, there are always interpreter available.

  • So. This guy is right and everyone else is wrong. Gotcha. Now I'll click over on Tim Conway's link and watch him affirm the continuation of tongues. After that, I'll click over on MacArthur (well, enough said there), then I'll click on Driscoll whereby he affirms tongues, then I'll...you get the point? Folks it's a secondary issue, an open-handed one. Don't get so caught up in it, worry about the bigger things. Be humble enough to say you just don't know. NOBODY has the definitive answer.

  • @wscott16 Hey there. Well, I agree with you that this is not an issue on the same scale of importance as say, the deity of Christ. We should remember love, first. Our desire to be right shouldn't override our calling to be gracious to one another. However, I totally don't agree that nobody has the definitive answer. The answer is either yes or no, so according to that, many people, in fact, do have a correct understanding of tongues. God bless.

  • I agree it isnt available to people today they need to read the bible more and understand.

  • Even if the gift of tongues is only as limited as this guy says, which it isn't, the gift is still available today. I have heard many stories from people I trust about experiences where a person spoke in other languages. Also, even though he mentioned 1st Corinthians 14 it seems he hasn't read it closely. It mentions a personal prayer language. Limiting God is a dangerous thing. Especially since he is taking the verse about tongues petering out completely out of context.

  • Dr. Cairns' explanation is one of the few logic interpretations of what speaking in tongues means. The notion of "Gift of tongues" as used by fundamentalist folks nowadays is simply a sort of babble play, if not a mental disorder. There is no such thing as the "gift of tongues". Period. Non-issue. There is dissociative babble supposedly interpreted by someone projecting their own philosophy onto it.

  • @kropotkinbeard1 I agree. Tradition and ignorance to the true teachings of scripture is one of the causes that this errorenous teaching pervades in today's church. I can remember a time when I had visited a church near my home and the alter call was made. The church leader gave the invitation to anyone that would like to "receive the gift of the Holy Spirit as evidenced by the speaking of tongues" to come forward. To me what that said is if you come you'd better speak some sort of jibberish.

  • Thank you Lane for allowing comments.

I must disagree at certain point with Dr. Cairns. 1 Cor 13:8 says "Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away."

Prophecies will cease, tongues will cease knowledge will cease. I cannot take one of them and say that is has ceased just because of experience. Knowledge hasn't ceased. The other 2 neither.

I believe in the Bible, and the Bible says "WILL CEASE".

    Grace and Peace.

  • @jboi116 "tongues " in that context was a referance to the sum total of all human language-this will cease when we are in the eternal state all speaking the same language. In other words there will be no different languages in heaven.

  • TONGUES IS FOR TODAY!! It is the seal of the Holy Ghost. The deed of the purchase. 1. Your translation is from the Greek mind set. Yeshua is Jewish so was Paul, Peter, Matthew etc. "YOU SHALL KNOW THE BELIEVERS FOR THEY WILL SPEAK IN TONGUES" You have deturped what the apostle Paul said. PEOPLE DON'T BELIEVE THIS MAN. THE THIEF COME TO STEAL KILL AND DESTROY. ONE NEEDS TONGUES TO LIVE A CHRISTIAN LIFE. BECAUSE IT BUILD YOU UP IN THE HOLY FAITH. READ YOUR BIBLE FOR YOURSELF!!! ESCAPE !!!

  • @brazilian777able Yes amen, I have noticed in my Christian walk that when I do speak in tounges (in the spirit) I can feel the holy spirit connecting with my spirit. IT"S REAL AMEN. And when I start to doubt that I can speak in tounges or that it's only jibberish or untrue, I can feel an emptiness in my spirituality. When we speak in tounges we can communicate with our god! amen

  • @bornagain3377 Amen. This so call theologians who perpetuated ignorance in the churches. The Christians without tongues is a soldier without weapon. No tongues no power! The requirement to get it is only one ....seek God with all your heart, mind and strength. HE is not a respector of persons. HE is a king and HE change not! SO GLAD BROTHER THAT YOU GOT IT. I pray all the time and amazing things happen. see you some day. keep in touch.

  • @brazilian777able The only requirement for that kind of "tongues" is to open your month and rapidly stammer something you don't understand. Seeking God for such a thing is not needed.

  • Regarding the gift of tongues, while it is not common today, it can happen. It is like any other gift from Yahweh. Just because Dr. Cairns interprets 1 Cor. 13:8 as the gift of tongues has already ceased, it does not mean his interpretation is correct. Many believe healing by the Spirit is not available today, but I am a recipient of healing of the Spirit where my body felt the sensation of being enveloped and the internal damage I had for over a decade was healed instantly back in 1/2004.

  • in love form a brother

1 Corinthians 13 1 If I speak in the tongues[a] of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge

jude 1:20-21 20 But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life

  • @Fleasfleas2 take a visit in my country to some christian pentecostal churches and most of the members speak in tongues.. don't be deceived, but If you are in a formal church service, the person who receives the gift of tongues should keep silent if there is no one who can interpret (1 Corinthians 14:28) and speak in tongues only to God.

  • Also, please be careful when putting down what another man of God is doing, especially when worshipping or praying in the 1 Cor 14:2 prayer tongue. I am reminded of Acts 5:38-39 when Gamaliel gave sound advice in a time of controversy. If this present day charisma is not of God, it will not endure... but if it is of God, those who speak against it will be guilty of speaking against a move of God.

It is clear that we are in the last days. Joel 2:28-29 is here and God needs His people equipped.

  • I strongly believe that many people have a faulty understanding of what it means to speak in tongues. There were some parts of this video that were accurate, tongues will cease, but they haven't yet. If we notice 1 Cor 14:2-5, we'll see that there are two types of tongues being used. The one that many charismatics operate in is what we like to call a "prayer language". I do not believe the evangelistic gift of tongues ceased either. If both Mal 3:6 and Hebrews 13:8 are correct, it's still in use

  • @FredWG3 Mal 3:6 was talking about the day of pentecost that happened in the book of acts.

  • Just another opinion in a world of opinions.

  • So if I speak in tongues and i am a christian and it is not for today then what am I speaking? I speak in tongues so am I wrong lane?

  • wow terrible explanation lol

  • @keving53 it is pretty accurate actually

  • @jopaddy81 NO, it's not accurate. There is no doubt that 1 Corinthians 13 speaks about the ceasing of the gift of tongue. But the gift of tongue is still available of tongue because the CEASING of tongue is when the perfect comes... When Jesus Christ will return, that's when the perfect comes. That's the time that gift of tongues, prophecies and knowledge are of no value anymore.

  • There are many false prophets no doubt, as well as this Alan Cairnes fella. The gift of tongues cannot be understood by an unbeliever. Many people sit in church pews, and listen to the word being preached, that doesnt however make them followers of Christ. Judas followed Christ, and eat with him, but he didnt know Jesus, and in the end he betrayed Jesus Christ for a reward. The false prophets are in many camps today, and they really believe that they are doing whats right, IE Saul.

  • @falseprophetbuster1 ic~~ thank you very much!!!! hehehe~~~~

  • @falseprophetbuster1 ic~~~ er~~ another question~~~ last one~~~ in the bible, Paul ask a man whether he were baptize in the Spirit, the man answered he did baptize in da way of John the Baptise, so Paul baptize him in da Spirit, soon after the baptism of Spirit, he spoke in tonge, so does it mean dat we have to baptize again in Holy spirit to recieve Him, and speak in tongue as a sign of having the Spirit with u??

  • I have not seen it done- in any church as Paul instructs-

  • haha~~~hey guys juz wan2 let u all noe dat some cult~~~ nt christian they are some chinese "qi gong" master able to speak in this so called 'tongue" as well~~ no doubt~~ is da work of the evil spirit~~~ the spirit of deceive~~~ hav a nice day to all~~~ hehe

  • @falseprophetbuster1

    juz wan2 noe~~~r u a psychiatrist? im a psychology student~~~

  • v13 continued: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him? The holy spirit is for every believer.

  • v13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children:

  • v11: If a son shall aske bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if he ask a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? V12: Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion?

  • v10: for every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

  • Now to michelle7able. Luke 11:9-13, And i say unto you, Ask,and it shall be given unto you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.

  • I'll just say you guys need to get in your word. This guy is just picking and choosing scripture.

  • vbvb

  • dvdv

  • yeah its not for everyone but for those eagerly want to experience the gift of tongue and operate for the sake of Glorifying our God.. You need to experience before you prejudge set aside the doctrine you know and God the Father will do the rest.

  • The Bible mentions speaking in the tongues of angels not just foreign languages. And in Romans 8:26–30 it says that the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. There not talking about earthy languages there. And in 1 Corinthians 13:8 what he doesnt mention is the verse directly after it that says For we know in part, and we prophesy in part. But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

  • speaking in tongues is available today....but it is not for everyone..............who ever

God sees fit to bless with this.................Only God can bless you with this Gift.......

  • 1 Corintians 14:

2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit.

4He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church.

27 If any speak in a tongue, let there be only two or at most three, and each in turn; and let one interpret. 28 But if there is no one to interpret, let each of them keep silence in church and speak to himself and to God.

  • 1Corintian12:30-31

Do all possess gifts of healing? Do all speak with tongues? Do all interpret? But earnestly desire the higher gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way.

Luke 11:13 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

Gift of tongues is still available just a lack of faith!

  • While I agree with some points of this discussion and disagree with others,I think it is unhelpful to the debate to rule this mans opinion out on the sole basis of him being educated or looking deep into scripture. My opinion is that the Bible is the ultimate truth and measuring stick to which Christians should consider all matters of faith and conduct. Or simply it is the primary authority. So instead or criticising why don't we all study the scripture together and let its truth shape our minds

  • Yet another many trying to but God in a box. Do not pay attention to such 'educated' preachers. Seek the Kingdom of God and Its righteousness and all other things shall be added onto you. If Jesus wishes to equip you with tongues so that you can do His will then He shall do so. God is not limited and I think I can safely assume that He does not take kindly to being compartmentalized by the teachings of men. May Jesus bless you all.

  • This is silly human reasoning. Paul NEVER told the Corinthians, or anyone else, that tongues are ONLY to be used for preaching to foreigners.

  • If tongues was only meant to spread the word, then why are we instructed to use the gift of tongues to build ourselves up? 1 Corinthians 14:2-4 2 "For anyone who speaks in a tongue[a] does not speak to men but to God. Indeed, no one understands him; he utters mysteries with his spirit.[b] 3But everyone who prophesies speaks to men for their strengthening, encouragement and comfort. 4He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church."

  • If I speak in the tongues of men AND of ANGELS, but have not love. 1 Corinthians 13:1 If they are languages that are on earth then why did Paul say the tongues of angles?!?!?!?!?

  • Mr Cairns' core verse 1.cor 13:8 says: "Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away." It is quite obvious that this time is yet to come.

  • There is NO scripture foretelling such a major event as the miraculous gifts coming to an end, unless you use this one verse to try to make it say that.

Problem is, once a person thinks that is what it means, they can read it frontwards and backwards, and it will still say to them what it has been construed to mean, falsely. It is a blindness that cannot be taken away except by a miracle from God.

  • Read I Cor 13. When tongues cease, so does knowledge.

This guy thinks he has lots of knowledge from God. Evidently he doesnt think that gift has come to an end. Therefore, tongues hasn't ceased either.

  • dafadf

  • adfadf

  • I WILL MAKE THIS SIMPLE.

I AM SO CONFIDENT THAT I CAN SPEAK IN TONGUE& TONGUE EXIST NOW,

I CAN BET MY LIFE ON IT. IN FACT, CAN BET MY ETERNAL LIFE AFTER DEATH.

IF YOU CANNOT BET YOUR LIFE ON YOUR ARGUMENT, DON'T TRY TO GET

SMART AND CONFUSE PEOPLE. JUST PLEASE CLOSE YOUR MOUTH.

    THANK YOU.

  • Dr Alan does not know what he is talking about. I personaly spoken in perfect Polish to a person when I did not know ir, and also to tribes in India. What about tlaking in angel languages who was that for?

  • You took that out of context.; its talking about using gift, prophesie, tongues without love. If you do anything for Christs kingdom without love its pointless and will die. Dr. Alan I use to think and believe the exact same thing. Any time I visited a church and was prayed for in "tongues" I would be weired out. Then one day deep in prayer I was baptised in the Holy Spirit and was so overjoyed my mind was not keeping up with my prayers and my mouth took off on its own. I speak tongues.

  • This guy has gotten it right! Very consistent with what the Bible (especially in the original Greek text) says about tongues (languages).

  • your wrong i speak in toungues everyday it is real i speak in unknown and known tounges both unknown and diverse tounges.

  • This is a false teaching. You should cease immediately. Tongues never has ceased. It will continue until "perfection" has come.

  • @wheelkick I agree with you I speak in toungues both unknown and diverse toungues.

  • 8 Love never fails. But whether there are prophecies, they will fail; whether there are tongues, they will cease; whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part. 10 But when that which is perfect has come, then that which is in part will be done away.

-- he used this in the part 5:20 ish in his video. It does say tounges will cease. But it also says that knowledge will cease, and prophecy will too. I think he has taken this out of context.

  • (Romans 11:29: "The gifts and calling of God are without repentance.")

(Act 11:17: "For as much then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us,

who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?"

(Mark 16:17: "And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall

they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;...not might or maybe,

but...these signs shall follow. Amen and amen

"IS GOD A MAN THAT HE SHOULD LIE?" GOD FORBID !

  • John MacArthur wrote an excellent treatise entitled: Charismatic Chaos. Helps keeping things in proper perspective. Has anyone in this modern era taken this "Gift" to another country to take advantage of the benefits?

  • Wow. My friend is Church of Christ, and they don't believe in the gifts anymore. I will read more into this.

  • Umm...Dr. Alan Cairns may need to check the premiere 1st Corinthian scholars today on what it means to speak in tongues (Fee, Garland, Thisleton, ect.). He is way off.
