I'm currently in the process of looking through all your Beatles covers. You really play so well, and the Rick helps a ton sound-wise of course, so it's a perfect combo of skill and medium. yeah I imagine Maxima strings would perfectly match with the Rickenbacker. To record my bass I just use a PC microphone in front of the amplifier, directly plugged into the PC. Nothing else

I use a 1966 VOX (JMI) Super Foundation Bass amplifier, and my basses are strung with TI (Thomastik-Infeld) JF344 flats.

I still can't believe how complicated this bass line is, and how funky it is! You are awesome. That sliding part in the chorus ("You can talk to me") is so unexpected

but foreshadows the incredible Rickenbacher playing on the White Album. Now I can't listen to this song without hearing the bass line prominently. Great job!

Honestly, i just discovered this Beatles masterpiece a few days ago. ive since been running my ipod through my bass amp to hear the bass better. and when i close my eyes while your video is playing, there's literally no difference. you absolutely NAILED this song, tone, playing, everything!! oh how i wish i could give you a quick High five right now!

Awsome sound to your bass. I too play Rics and have a 4003 Fireglo and a 4001c64s in mapleglo. And yes the T & I JF344s are the best for Macca's sound. His were Maxim's by Rickenbacker, but they don't make flat's anymore. What color is your bass in this video. Is that the discontinued Autumnglo??? Very nice!!!!

Thanks for the vids. We play a 10 piece Beatles run at the beginning of our gigs and I use a real Hofner for first few then switch to my Ric 4001 Jet Glow when we start in on PaperBack Writr and beyond, chronilogically. You've convinced me to stick with the pick on this and Saw Her Standing There, All My Lovin etc. I'm tempted to fingerpick on The faster 'Saw Her Standing There', but I want to be a purist like you are. Gonna tackle Hey Bulldog now.Thanks. I use the flatwounds too.

btw, are you familar w/ these vox super foundation bass amps, i just bought a Vox Super Foundation w/ two lights (standby and mains), i believe it's JMI 1967. the cab is tall w an 18' speaker. it doesn't work though and trying to get it fixed.
