I do know because my grandparents practice black magic before they become christians and they too burned their charms and black magic once they became christian, but it didnt went off that soon without "hurting" them back. This is just stupid, the jar or boxes they opened may have some sort of gases trapped in them so they started felling ill and because they had in their mind that they are digging some evil stuff they end up linking it to evil spirits.
