OH I laughed at the end, as a Paul super fan (Groupie) I thought I had heard most everything but the end of this interview was priceless..it looks like Simon Cowell said it right..."Just Stay the way you are" Mr Potts and the world will be listening and smiling.
One thing that makes Paul appeal to the people is that he is believable. I mean just look at him when he sings, you can feel from his facial expression what he is singing and that is what I like about him. Especially his very first performance in BGT. So for me, as long as he sings as passionate as the first time, stays humble as always (at least he appears to be), I will buy his tickets when he comes to town. A bit of improvement every now and then wouldn't hurt but thats just a plus.

Opera star? He's not even an opera singer, only an opera fan. Just because he sang Nessum Dorma in Britain's Got Talented doesn't make him an opera singer. Opera singers have years of voice training before they even get to sing, and even then they are just average, compared to the top.
I find this funny, same thing with dancers, they think its so important to be perfectly technical but the fact of the matter is that there is hardly anyone out there who would know the difference. Bottom line, if you are entertaining to the masses you are a star and therefore Paul Potts IS a great Opera Star.
I get your point, but Paul Potts is like a slap to a real opera singer. People don't know how the voice is trained (opera training diferent than popular musci). There are certain things that a person who knows about voice or lirical music, notices. Paul isn't good. I won't say Pavarotti, cause to me Caruso is the best. But compare a trained opera singer to Paul and you'll see.
Singing opera is not a hobby is an art, that takes training to develop. An opera voice is born and it's developed. There is no untrained voice that could sing opera even if you had biggest vocal range. You think Picasso didn't expend all his life to develop? Don't you think Fred Astaire perfected his dancing? Don't you think Moztart perfected his knowledge? This people are remembered still today. Natural talent without training is not good (his voice is not good for opera still).....
I studied in a conservatory for 8 years(8 yrs after I graduated high school(I took classes in school too) before I got to perform. Even still my voice was just average, now after many years my voice is developed (no longer average), but I still need to train everyday (it's a muscle). P.P may appeal to the masses, but he isn't going to get in the book as one of the most talented tenors (like the interviewer suggested.)
It's funny how you trained all your life and I've never even heard about you but Paul Potts is world wide sensation. Yes he didn't have training, yes he may not be the best singer but he is still an opera singer. Even if you don't like it, what he sings and wants to sing is opera. Now to people like you who think people like Pavarotii are the only opera singers, get your head into reality.
The man has been stuck with selling phones for most of his life than he found something that he likes and has a natural talent at. However just because his talent is immature it doesn't mean that he isn't a opera singer at all. He found what he is truly good at, he can develop it from there. Don't be an arsehole and think otherwise. He has talent and it is never too late.
It doesn't make sense to say that you "need" training to be able to sing opera. Opera didn't exist before mankind, so obviously somebody had to invent it without training. That being said, anyone can discover it for himself.
Real. Infact without training Pavarotti or Di Stefano would have had the exact same voices. Training helps you to use the voice and preserve it. Paul Potts problem is not indeed in the tecnique. It's in the fact that he simply can't sing.
I don't think it is accurate to say he can't sing, but his singing is not of a high operatic standard. But that matters not to his fans who get so much enjoyment from him. I am not one of them, but clearly many like what they hear.
@The99Gambo I respect your opinion. Mine is however, I the story behind the guy gives him the ability to perform aiming to excel, contrary to greatnesses like Pavarotti, who already reached their top and we've all heard it. Paul is a breath of fresh air, like Simon said. I'll most like buy his CD. Not only a GREAT voice but what an honesty and humbleness, rising from his story. Cheers.
This is the best interview I've seen. George S. does a great job and has a talent for putting people at ease and dosen't let his personality get in the way.
ive never heard of the "the hour" business before but this george doesnt seem to be like all those stupid american presenters than just have to get attention he actually listens to who he is interviewing more than other yank presenters.
George S is a top man at his job. That and Paul made this a great interview.
People, please listen to, (even better, buy), Paul's cd, and look through YT for some of his most recent work, (one of many, search: paul potts triunfo). You will be amazed by what this genuine, modest man has already achieved.
Paul Potts doesn't sing in operas. How can he be called an "Opera star."?

But, not being able to sing is a result of poor technique. Unless you had your throat slashed or are missing some vocal appendage.
