You're so right about it not being exclusively a body thing! When I was 15 I started losing weight to please my very judgmental dad. When I saw zero change in his attitude towards me, I went on an unreasonable hunger strike: one that lasted two years. It was ultimately a battle against HIM.

I was never diagnosed with an eating disorder despite my many doctor appointments, but with the mention of hospitalization I knew it was time to eat again. Like you said, it's really a matter of perspective.

Doing even better now? I've talked to a few people who have suffered from eating disorders, and it's really difficult to help them, because they often are stuck due to not having any control (or feeling as if they don't) in their lives. I mean, people expect them to change, but when you're stuck in a situation in which you have very little control, it's a bit different. You look nice, too.
