@TheMistermies LOL Prog Rock and Punk are my two favorite old school genres. For me, right up there next to Peter Gabriel's Genesis and Pink Floyd are The Clash and The Offspring. Totally different musical styles, but both awesome!
Genesis were awesome when Gabriel was with them....they sold out and started doing all poppy crap when Collins ( the guy who accused Gabriel of stealing all the limelight)

why is it that i feel i'm among sincere friends here when i'm checkin out one of my all time favorite songs from one of my all time favorite bands? too bad none of us have boobs :)
Today's a day to celebrate, the foe have met their fate.... love love love this song, there's been nothing before or after to compare unless you look to opera, maybe Puccini, but he didn't have that slightly crazy edge...
English Prog-Rock - late Beatles, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, Yes, Genesis, Led Zepellin, Queen, maybe a few others - greatest era in rock and roll/rock/pop music - whatever you want to call it. The culmination of what was started in the mid 50s. Been downhill ever since. and now we have Ke$sha and Britney Spears dominating the charts.
According to convention, punk rock reclaimed popular music to the rockn'roll working class. My own theory: On the contrary, punk acted to rip away the control from independent artists and give it back to business people: Buy crap, not art!
@TheRadicalLiberal Prog rock is one of the bastard children of rock along with metal. Thank God Genesis broke through this year and got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Maybe there is hope for bands like Yes, ELP, the Moody Blues and Jethro Tull.

@TheRadicalLiberal Have we succeeded? We think so. Before long we shall have covered with our narratives an enormous period of time; between the "Comtesse de Salisbury' and the "Comte de Monte Christo" five centuries and a half are compresed. Well, we assert that we have taught France as much history about those five centuries and a half as any historian.
@TheRadicalLiberal "It doesn't matter who the people voted for, they always vote for us."-Joseph Stalin(Illuminati)
"To one who cannot see that on Earth a big endeavor is taking place, an important plan, on which realization we are allowed to collaborate as faithful servants, certainly has to be blind."-Winston Churchill(33 degree Mason)
@TheRadicalLiberal "The high office of the President has been used to foment a plot to destroy the American's freedom and before I leave office, I must inform the citizen of this plight."
~JFK "It is no measure of Mental Health to be Well Adjusted to a Profoundly Sick Society"-Jiddu Krishnamurti
@TheRadicalLiberal these passages are from page #17 of The Companions of Jehu written by Alexandre Dumas pere--"Sir, I have heard speak of the Companions of Jesus," replied the magistrate with his jeering smile. "The Jesuits, you mean? That is not what I am seeking, sir."....Elisha consecrated Jehu King of Israel, on condition that he exterminate the house of Ahab; Elisha was Louis XVIII; Jehu was Cadoudal; the house of Ahab, the Revolution.
@TheRadicalLiberal I can name plenty of rock/pop acts from the last decade or so that are just as creative as thoes bands. Radiohead, The White Stripes, Arcade Fire, The Strokes, Arctic Monkeys, Blur, PJ Harvey, Björk... it's true that commercial pop is more prominent in the charts today, but the advent of the internet and sites like YouTube has made it more easy than ever to find wonderful, and endlessly creative music. Just because it isn't in the charts anymore, doesn't mean it's not there.
@Mekakakaka LOL!!! While I agree that there are bands as creative as Genesis these days, most of the bands you just mentioned arent musically creative at all, they are just following in a genre. The strokes sound like a million other indie bands out there, Arctic Monkeys too..White stripes sound like TONS of folk/rock bands..nothin special there. Radiohead IS creative though. However none of the bands you mentioned are prog rock. Better to mention The Decemberists, Porcupine Tree etc.
@Porojukaha except those prog bands are, like you said, just following genres, and in some cases, trying too hard to sound like particular bands, just like most bands that call themselves "prog" these days. The Decemberists want to be Genesis, The Mars Volta want to be King Crimson, Dream Theater want to be Rush, Porcupine Tree want to be Pink Floyd, etc. prog is a dead genre these days...
@Mekakakaka Im sorry have you even listened to those bands? there are virtually NO similarities between teh Decemberists and Genesis. Also there are pretty much no similarities between Rush and Dream Theater. Once again, virtually no similarities between Porcupine Tree and Pink Floyd. Decemberists and Genesis dont even use the same instruments! When did you ever see a pedal steel or an upright base or an accordion in Genesis music? and when did the decemberists ever use a flute?
@Mekakakaka The white stripes, however is JUST LIKE hundreds of other indie folk bands, they just happened to get famous. Arctic Monkeys is just like hundreds of other indie bands from england.
@Mekakakaka And finally, why are you even bringing up Dream Theater? They arent even prog rock, they are prog metal, Prog rocks' evil shitty doppleganger. hell you might as well mention Symphony X if your gonna start talking about Dream Theater. Gross. I agree that PT had some floyd influence at the start and occasionally SW pays an homage to that. But for the most part their playstyles are completely different. PT is much more hardcore whilst PF is more psychedelic and spacey.
@Mekakakaka But as far as prog rock being dead....yeah, its mostly dead. but only because SW has failed to really branch out and most of what he produces sounds like other things hes done, so I feel like the progression of his band has stopped. And the Decemberists are shying away from prog rock because all the bastard hipsters who have no real taste in music & just want things to conform to their "ironic" "scene" of popular pseudo folk culture have lambasted them to the point of capitulation.
es una obra teatral hecha cancion a diferencia de un disco conceptual esta cuenta varias historias en "un solo tema"...es realmente maravillosa algo sublime, un balsamo para el alma, amo esta cancion. saludos¡¡
Your kidding me with this right? No one noticed this?? It's the studio audio track dubbed over the live video. It's not the real soundtrack. I have this video.
Great quality of a sublime performance. One of the best recorded live performances I've seen. In company with selected gems by KC, Zappa, Led Z and Jimi.
i don't like how people compare Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins roles in the band, Gabriel made the music more than interesting with his lyrics and stage act, and Collins brought that huge drum sound to the band, something they were lacking in the beginning.
Maybe because Collins stopped drumming and took over singing when Gabriel left after "Lamb"? There is a definite change of feel in the band at that point, and when Steve Hackett left as well, Genesis (under Collins' leadership) became pretty much pop, rather than the more creative and inventive band they had been with Gabriel (even when Collins was drumming).
Great concert footage but why in the name of all things sacred did you dub over the actual concert audio with the non-live version from Foxtrot?? Totally nonsensical and needless!
Granted this video is elsewhere on YT but yours is a greatly restored version - not the same thing. And the audio quality from the original footage is superb (all things considered), so why replace it with something we've all heard a million times before? Something that's also already on YT? This totally defeats the purpose of restoring the visual component of the concert footage! There's enough lip-synching in the world already - plse don't create it where it never existed in the first place!
@dodolurker91 You keep- the original sound up so that Youtube takes off the other videos, we have yours to depend on. Is there any way you can upload the real footage? Sound and all?
@siulungkevin OR @dodolurker91: "Great concert footage..." INDEED. I thought I was pretty familiar with all the available historic bootleg video footage but I have never seen this excellent video. Can you tell me the date date/venue or some other identifier (like for example, Atomic Sun Festival, Shepperton, Bataclan, Lindisfarne Fair, Imperial College, Piper Club, etc. ...)
