I live in Mobile. The best part about downtown are the century old oak trees that drape over the road as you come in through the Wallace tunnel, and Bienville Square where you can hand-feed the squirrels. :)
I am a Texan but lived in Mobile for 5 years back in the 90's. Fell in love with the place and still miss it. Watching this brought a smile to my face. Thanks for posting it.
Years ago I was driving with a friend from New Orleans to Ft. Lauderdale. We passed Mobile, and he refused to turn off and go see the city. I was furious. I never got over it. I would never get another chance to see an big city in Alabama or other parts of the Deep South. Thank you for posting this video so that I can see what I had missed. I will never forgive that guy for being such an asshole.
You are welcome. I appreciate the comment. Hopefully you will travel again and get to see some sights. We have been within 50 miles of New Orleans twice and my husband would not drive down there just to loop through and see the city. I would like to see N.O. before it sinks. Hopefully we will still be healthy when he retires and will travel then. It is hard to travel much now while he is still working.
I was born in Mobile. stinks--literally. The paper mills smell like rotten eggs. But thats OK i guess their toilet paper business is booming. Summers are hot & sticky and the beaches are mediocre (unless you head over to Gulf Shores).
YES. i live here and TRUST ME mobile isnt the rainest city for nothing, its soooooooooo fricken humid even when its cold, it makes it like twice as cold feally cause of the moisture. also one day it can be 95 degrees then the next day it can be 50. mobile weather sucks! and then hurricanes come and your without power for three weeks and trees all down in the road. YEP THATS MOBILE ALABAMA IN A NUT SHELL
I lived across the state line in Pensacola for a year and I'll vouch for what you're saying. I liked it there for the most part but that humidity was BRUTAL! You could shower like three times a day and at times it was hardly enough. LOL! :)
well there's a few decent sized cities like Mobile and Birmingham, and the rest of of course wilderness or farm land. That's true everywhere though isn't it? I seriously doubt the north is one big city
I live in mobile to. Its not a bad place at all to live. Weathers great, people are nice, (long as you don't head to prichard) and food is good. whats not to like?
The place that Kerouac and Dylan have written about. Pretty unremarkable really, except for the battleship and the tunnel. Oh yeah, and the leprechaun video.

I was an exchange student in Mobile, Al in 1978. Since then I keep coming back to see my host family and enjoy the warmth of this beautiful city.
thanks for this video. There is no need somebody to talk as the video talks by itself.

There are some stinky paper factories here where I live. Are the casino's up and running again?
tjw1963 2 years ago
I don't know. I live in Gator Country now (FL). I thought all the casinos are in Mississippi.

Maybe you need to visit the south. It is a great place to live. We even have flush toilets and computers down here.
tjw1963 3 years ago
They have electricity by now? ^^
No, serously, I was there for a year as an exchange student at Murphy High in 1989. It's not what I call a beautiful city but I had a good time....
icecube45 3 years ago
If you haven't been back since '89, it has improved A LOT since then.

this video makes me feel ignorant
StanOfGB 3 years ago
Why do you feel that?
tjw1963 3 years ago
no doubt he bought into the hollywood idea that the entire south is nothing but wilderness and racists.
It's all politics. The south is mostly Republican, so the mostly Democrat north tries to make the south look bad to win votes.
Sadly, politics is usually about image more than issues
waldoman7 3 years ago
Mobile is pretty liberal, politically speaking, as opposed to the rest of Alabama
