Call me an emotional science nerd : I cried. To the fate of Kepler, and to the incredible beauty of human achievement. Thank you Carl Sagan for sharing this marvellous history.
I got chill bumps when he said "one day humans would launch celestial ships with sails adapted to the breezes of heaven filled with explorers who would not fear the vastness of space"
I cannot grasp how more people have not watched these videos...
It even has a dislike; I hope it was just an unnoticed slip of the mouse! :P
Carl Sagan is, if you pardon my lingo, the absolute shit. I find the experience of observing, learning about and then understanding something so profound that it moves me to see it so vividly expressed in such an intelligent man.
it is poetic that Keppler and all other scientist of his time did science in order to reach\understand the mad invisible mad man in the sky which in the end finished him
Why can't T.V. mini-series be THIS awesome now? Oh right, because everyone's too busy watching "American Idol". *sigh* At least there's PBS and the BBC, and scientists like Richard Dawkins and Neil Degrasse Tyson.
LOL, I don't know. I don't even watch American Idol. I've seen a few old ep's on YT, but that's about it. I prefer watching the bad auditions for "Britain's Got Talent". Some of the 'talent' on that show is staggeringly amusing. :p
So, I guess I'm not immune to reality-show fever. But this show, "Cosmos", puts almost every T.V. program to shame.
I STRONGLY disagree with 1:26 . he was not the first. the Maya knew about this long before. its like history revolves around white people

It's a shame that we, as a species, still haven't evolved away from religion.

Carl Sagan is a towering giant...how I wish I could have had such a teacher when I was a foolish child....I miss him.

"He preferred the harsh truth to that of his dearest delusions"
That sums up Sagan beautifully.

Carl Sagan is definitely superhuman.
Not in the supernatural sense of the word, but he radiates an understanding that encompasses everything we can find on the world.
Inspirational. My hero.

"He preferred the hard truth over his dearest delusions. That, is the heart of science"
Those must be among the most beautiful sentences to ever conclude a documentary.

"A short history of nearly everything" has to be my favorite book ever. Bill Bryson makes it amost as easy as Sagan did.

I just got done reading that, yes it is amazing! Best chapter was The Stone Breakers. Bryson kicks ass!!

I love this chapter - Carl Sagan really had a grasp on the immensity of the events in this awakening of mankind.
